guar gum food
Applies to: Benefiber (guar gum formulation) (guar gum)
Guar gum may interact with other medications if given at the same time. This can cause your other medications to become less effective. In general, all oral medications should be administered at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after dosing of guar gum. Take guar gum with a full glass (at least 8 ounces) of cool water or another liquid. Taking guar gum without enough liquid may cause it to swell in the throat and cause choking.
phenylephrine food
Applies to: Refenesen Chest Congestion Relief PE (guaifenesin / phenylephrine)
Consumer information for this interaction is not currently available.
MONITOR: Coadministration of two or more sympathomimetic agents may increase the risk of adverse effects such as nervousness, irritability, and increased heart rate. Central nervous system (CNS) stimulants, particularly amphetamines, can potentiate the adrenergic response to vasopressors and other sympathomimetic agents. Additive increases in blood pressure and heart rate may occur due to enhanced peripheral sympathetic activity.
MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised if two or more sympathomimetic agents are coadministered. Pulse and blood pressure should be closely monitored.
