For Acne "My face broke out with acne at age 15 and tetracycline worked great for years, I stopped taking it around age 19. Things were fine until I reached age 25 or so and then I started breaking out again. This time around tetracycline did nothing, tried minocycline along with a few other antibiotics and they did not work either. I was on Accutane for about 6 months and that worked while I was taking it but not so much after I stopped. Finally my dermatologist put me on Bactrim and that worked like magic! My face and back have been clear ever since. I have taken Bactrim for 10 years... now that I’m close to 50, I finally don’t need to take anything!"

For Acne "I am a 24 year old male and have semi oil skin. Never had acne until after high school around 20 years old so I guess you can call it adult acne. Anyway, I was dealing with cystic acne on my chin, cheeks, jawline and even some times on my nose. It was considered mild-moderate but still very uncomfortable coming from 20 years of a completely clear face. I would have anywhere from 6-8 decently sized cysts on my face at any given time. For almost 5 years I tried everything all sorts of washes and crap I read online which none worked. Finally went to a derm 3 months ago and got Bactrim 800-160 within a week my acne cleared and has been 99.9% gone ever since taking it twice a day every day."

For Kidney Infections "I went to the ER and was diagnosed with a severe kidney infection. I was prescribed with Bactrim 2 a day for 10 days I’m on day 6 and I’ve felt some nausea, headaches, and mild body aches and I’ve been very sleepy BUT as far as the pain from my kidney and chills etc I feel A LOT better !! I didn’t have any allergic reactions"

For Sinusitis "I was prescribed this medication for ten days after two recent bouts with a sinus infection that never seemed to clear. This did the trick. I was thirsty and somewhat restless but had none of the major possible side effects that the doctor warned me about."

For Bacterial Infection "I took bactrim twice a day for 10 days after completing the script all the side effects started: dizziness, confusion, cramps in legs, swelling of glands one on the back of my head, two in my throat, my thyroid swollen too these are just the glands I can see. I also have problems urinating, burning from the kidneys down. Its been 7 days since my last dose I'm still having side effects when will this be over I wish I had never taken this medication."

For Urinary Tract Infection "NEVER AGAIN. It has been only 2 days. I'm already dizzy, fatigued, anxiety ridden and its 2 a.m and my heart won't stop racing! I've had the jitters all day and very unpleasant heart palpitations that feel like my heart is going to explode. Also, I CANT SLEEP."

For Urinary Tract Infection "this treatment is the best to kill any bacteria in your body I treat my urine tract infection,star taking the medication 5 pm by 9 pm was a relieve no pain at all and be able to urinate with out any discomfort always you have to fallow up all step after this treatment ,drink lots of water,very happy no upset stomach at all."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I was diagnosed with MRSA, a staph infection that is like small boils on the skin. I was on Bactrim for two weeks and it seemed to clear it up. Actually improved in a couple of days. After a week of being off the Bactrim, I started getting the boils back. Had to take another two weeks of Bactrim."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Started taking Cipro for a bladder infection but had some bad side effects in the tendon in my right hand. Went back to the Dr. And he gave me Bactrim(Septra). I took it for 3 days in total before I had to stop. The symptoms literally made me feel like I was dying. I had a really foggy head, headaches, dizziness, I almost passed out one day. I got zero sleep the whole time I was on it. My joints hurt in the night, my skin got really itchy and developed a rash, I also developed extreme anxiety and I felt like I was having a heart attack with the palpitations. I was close to panic attack that's when I said enough is enough. I've never had a reaction like that and I have trouble remembering those days. It was a blur of pain and confusion."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I cut my finger on a piece of metal under the seat of my car and developed a skin infection. Had the infection drained, but was also prescribed Bactrim twice a day for 10 days. After 2 days I saw my finger start healing up and within the 10 days it was completely healed. I only experienced mild nausea and some insomnia. Other than that it did a great job! Very satisfied."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Okay here is my story..... I’m 3 days in and after the first dose I felt amazing. Next day even better. Today not so good, I have had sweats at least thrice and stomach pains with burping constantly. My tongue is actually peeling. I have had no appetite throughout the course of 3 days thus far!!! I’m stopping it in fear of something even worse happening!! I can not take my daily runs on this medication. Anxiety is high and my mouth hurts!!! I had sepsis 21 months ago which started with a UTI and several antibiotics do not agree with me!!! I will update as time goes on. Right now I want my mouth to stop hurting!!! I would be very cautious if you are prescribed this medication!!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "This is my first and last time I will ever take it. Now firstly some people have good experiences with this med so it's all up to your body. My body said No. The headaches are bad the rapid heart beat scared me and the restlessness was awful and it made me jittery/nervous I took the whole dose .You will not know how your body will react to this med until you try it I have a friend that took it and she was fine and swore by it her body make up is different then mine."

For Acne "I have been taking Bactrim for about a year and a half now. Prior to Bactrim I took everything else. I've had acne since I was roughly 15 and am now 23. Everything I took either left me feeling crappy, or didn't work. In my experience taking Bactrim the first 2-3 months my face breaks out horribly. Then at some time in that period it just goes away. It is absolutely the best acne medication I've ever taken! I have taken it twice."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Cured my UTI but gave me insomnia, anxiety, swollen lymph nodes, headache, muscle and joint pain all over my body, and pins/needles feeling all over my body. Ended up going to the hospital for the side effects. So I would not in any circumstance recommend this antibiotic"

For Bronchitis "My doctors would always give me amoxicillin. It never did anything. I use to have a bad bronchitis every winter. I had one that lasted months. My sputum turned deep brown, my middle ears were so infected I could barely hear. And I was not a smoker then. I called my ENT office off hours. I got another doctor on the call. He was older and very thorough in trying to diagnose over the phone. He said lets try a real old drug. It was Sulfa not the combo Bactrim. He called the pharmacy. A friend picked it up. the pil was huge. I broke it in three pieces to get down with lots of water. Tthe next day was like a miracle, I felt so much better. It seems Sulfa is all around gold standard antibiotic for me for any infection"

For Urinary Tract Infection "Bactrim doesn't seem to help, have a UTI and Dr put me on Bactrim, even after I told him it didn't work for me in the past. Been on it for a week and I can barely urinate. (Cipro has worked well for me). Now the Dr. wants me to make another office visit, because he gave me an antibiotic that I told him has not worked for me in the past. I asked him to call in a script for Cipro, he won't. He is convinced that if Bactrim didn't work, I need another visit. So now I have to pay for another visit. I almost always test negative for UTI, which makes me wonder how inclusive their culture test is. Anyway, ask for Cipro if Bactrim doesn't work."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Bactrim is a very good antibiotic in my experience. at first i was so scared to take it because of all these negative reviews, my uti was antibiotic resistant and bactrim cleared it up within 3 days. don’t let these reviews scare you, the people who have bad reactions usually don’t follow the instructions, stay out of the sun, drink tons of water, eat a full meal before taking your dose! :)"

For Urinary Tract Infection "Got UTI after my first sexual intercourse. My first UTI as well. Peeing was so painful the doctor prescribed me Bactrim to take it 2 times a day for 3 days. I was so scared reading all the reviews here I was expecting horrible side effects but here i am on my 4th pill and the only side effect I noticed was minor tightness in the chest, which made me breathe heavily around 30 minutes after swallowing the pill. It lasted for like 5 minutes. The painful urination disappeared gradually after taking the first pill. I took it at 12 pm and by night I could urinate without any problems. I took the pill with a full glass of water and I drank a lot of water too to flush out the bacteria. To anyone who needs to take this pill, don't worry too much reading the scary reviews here it works well to clear the infection. Well it depends on your body too I guess. Glad mine works just fine"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I ended up with a urinary tract infection due to my diabetes. My PA prescribed Bactrim and I have not experienced any side effects. The burning and urge to urinate, but even after 2 days still feel like the bladder was not emptied. It is day 5 and I noticed some discoloration in urine in the morning hours. I take it that is due to some bleeding. It went back to clear yellow tonight. I am carefully completing the course of this medication and hope it works for others like it has for me. I feel great!"

For Kidney Infections "I was prescribed Bactrim after 2 other antibiotics that did not knock out the infection. Honestly, after reading so many bad reviews I was reluctant to take Bactrim. However, my infection was one step from putting me in the hospital. Fast forward, I've been on it for almost 13 days. I felt immediately felt better after the second day. The infection is gone. I had no side effects at all. Nothing. It did suppress my appetite a tiny little bit...which I'm not complaining about! Lol. But it worked well for me. Don't forget to drink a lot of water."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "After a sinus infection and an infected ingrown toenail, I was prescribed Bactrim twice daily for 14 days. I just want to say there is nothing to be afraid of. I'm terrified of taking meds. I'm severely allergic to penicillin and I've had hard times with them. So, naturally, I waited last minute to take these. I was laying in bed burning hot from inside out with a fever. I could literally feel the infection spreading in my body. I finally said enough and reached for a Bactrim. I had no side effects at all and within an hour I felt drastically better. When I take it, I also take a piece of Promethazine (Phenergan) and if fever then an ibuprofen. I also eat a pretty decent-sized meal about an hour prior with yogurt (for the probiotics). I just like to be prepared but nope, nothing bad has happened. This is the best antibiotic I've ever taken and it works fast. Trust me, don't be scared, follow instructions and eat with it, you will be just fine. Also, I sit up for 30 minutes after I take it."

For Kidney Infections "I was diagnosed with a Kidney infection and prescribed Bactrim twice a day for 5 days. I took my first pill in the evening, slept for twelve hours and took another one in the morning. I thought my body just needed the rest, but shortly after the second pill I slept most of the day. By the end of my experience I've had: fatigue, stomach pains, severe constipation, nausea, insomnia, and loss of appetite. My kidneys seemed to have improved but I couldn't even bring myself to take the final pill."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Started taking Bactrim on a Saturday night for a UTI. I expected to feel better by the morning (I’ve had two other UTI's and I’ve felt better after the first pill). I woke up Sunday morning feeling almost exactly the same. I started to get the worst headaches of my life. Constant throbbing and feeling nauseous. My husband said just keep taking it and let the drugs run their course. Fast forward to Tuesday night, 7 pills in, I’m still feeling awful, still getting headaches. While reading reviews, I was shocked at all the horrible side effects. Like I said, I’ve taken two different antibiotics for two other UTI's and didn’t feel as awful as I did while taking Bactrim. I’m on a different antibiotic now so we’ll see."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "My daughter had a small red angry looking flea bite, or so we thought. We tried to draw it out with hot compress. NO go. Went to Urgent Care the next day. Was given Bacrim 800+160. That was a Saturday. Wound was 1 times worse the next day. Went to ER. Was told NOT to use hot compress but keep taking the Bactrim. Today is Tuesday. Taking this medication doesnt seem to be doing much. She is red, imflammed badly, full of nastyness and pain. Using crutches as this is on her lower leg. Seeing surgeon in 2 days because the infection is now to deep. She is in tons of pain. Thankfully there is no fever as of yet but infection is looking more and more like MRSA. Scary stuff on an 18 year old who is constantly keeping herself clean."
