For Depression "Without a doubt, St John's Wort works for depression. I have been on 3 different SSRIs and none have had the effect St John's Wort has. It has calmed insesent worrying and has all almost completely recovered a fairly moderate depression. I have had side effects of dry mouth, altered taste, slight tingling and a lowered appetite bit these side effects are much gentler than the sledge hammer side effects I usually get from SSRIs. Overall, a really great herb with fairly amazing mood altering effects."

For Depression "I started taking St John's wort after researching and reading a lot about it. Well after a couple of weeks on it, I noticed a difference. It's taken the edge off my anxiety and depression, I feel calmer and a lot less irritable! I'm happy with the results and have had maybe one headache when I first started, I will continue to take it and record my progress, I'm now looking forward and feeling optimistic about the future!!"

For Depression "I suffered from anxiety and depression since my teenage years. I was fortunately enough to come across a book about St. John's wort, read the book and starting taking it. First it didn't help much about my anxiety and depression. About 2 to 3 weeks onward, I felt like a new person, or the old one before I had depression. Not much anger anymore and feeling hopeful etc... even smile more, even to strangers. My advice is to stick with it for a week or 2 and see if it works for you too. If not, try 5 HTP, it's good for depression too as well. Best,"

For Depression "I've been dealing with severe depression due to a divorce. So far I've tried Trintellix, Abilify, Rexulti, others and even Pramipexole and wellbutrin. Although some of these seemed to help a little it did nothing to really bring me out of the depression. I had no zest for life, didn't care about much at all, didn't look forward to anything. Wellbutrin seemed to help the most at getting some motivation but after a while it seemed to wane and caused a little anxiety. I was at my wits end so I tried St. John's wort. I've been taking 600MG 3x daily for 2 weeks. You want standardized dose of hyperforin in it. My mood has greatly increased and I find myself starting to think more positive thoughts about the future and look forward to things. It really takes 4-6 weeks to really work. I'll update this after two months. I recommend this. Read up on it as it can have severe interactions with other meds. Do your research and talk to your doc."

For Depression "I have had family history from one side of the family(parent) and after a near death accident at 8yrs old my depression triggered. I've been healed (trust me it was bad) but every human being gets attacks hear and there so I decided to use something more organic. St. John's wort works but my tummy is sensitive to it (300mg 3x day) so I've lessen how many I take or take it every other day. I just like having a long term consistent mood. I've been 1 year fine, never used medicines not even Organics until now. "

For Depression "I started taking St Johns Wort around 2 months ago. I read it would take 8 weeks to notice any relief, although I instinctively felt a whole lot better after the first day. I have dealt with anxiety for around 6 years now. First I was prescribed Citalopram and I could not cope with the side effects. I decided to turn to herbal remedies. I believe St Johns wort has helped balance out my emotions and not to worry so much or overthink the past. One downfall I would say could be the confusion time to time. It's manageable though. Would highly recommend, but give it a little time to show any relief, can vary person to person!"

For Depression "During college, I did have a prescription for medication such as a few SSRIs epression and anxiety. I felt these drugs offered some relief from my depression; but they did little to nothing for my anxiety, and in fact I side effects that were unwanted (sexual, loss of interest in stuff, etc). I became interested in SJW after it was mentioned on a bodybuilding form as a supplement some people were taking. I read it helps with depression, and was generally regarded as safe, so I bought a bottle of the pills and took one. Within one hour, I immediately noticed a more 'calming' feeling. Considering it placebo, I ignored it. A week later, the effects are stable. Depression is gone, and anxiety is significantly lower."

For Depression "I have found this herb to be an invaluable part of self-maintenance. Though I do not always take it, months will go by when I do not feel the need, I have relied on it for over a decade. I come from a family with a history of depression and am one of the few that has never needed an anti-depressant drug. One word of caution: once a bottle of st. john's wort is open, I find that it loses potency with in a month or so. I'd stay away from large bottles, be careful how it's stored and there are other herbs that compliment it nicely: DMAE (not to be confused with the hormone DHEA!), valerian and such. Good luck!"

For Depression "I started with 250mg per day using Karmamood and noticed a positive difference fairly quickly with my moderate depression. Carried on for a few weeks and after reading many reviews figured I would go up to the 425gm version of the same brand as it seemed like I was really under-dosing in comparison to others. Unfortunately this just seemed to be too strong and I noticed a major increase in irritability. Have now switched back to the lower dose with good results. For reference I seem to have stronger reactions to caffeine and other stimulants than most so this may be a factor but who knows."

For Depression "28 year old who suffers from generalised anxiety (which can turn into panic disorder when I'm peak anxiety) and premenstrual dysphoria. St John's Wort is amazing. I'm still 'myself' and never had any of the awful onset symptoms of Prozac, Zoloft, Lexapro et al. All the symptoms of prescribed SSRIs turned me off them immediately. St John's Wort turns my anxiety and the "you can't do this/aren't enough/are screwing life up" internal voice track down to about a 2 or 3, when it's usually between a 7 on an average day. Life is still tough and I still have a neurotic personality, but 4 weeks into taking this and I'm enjoying life again and want to make positive plans for the future :). Definitely take it but it will take some time to kick in!"

For Depression "Took st john’s wort due to a depression – and it helped. After seven years I stopped when I became sick. Now my mood is more even and I am much happier since I quit. My message is that it helps depression when needed, and makes you slightly depressed when it is not needed."

For Depression "Being very sensitive to ANYTHING I take!!!- I've found st johns wort to be most effective taken just twice weekly to low dose. I know it sounds odd but I split a capsule in half and take later in day twice weekly only. Otherwise after couple days in row of taking I dislike side effects! This way I get greatest benefits including some nice residual days! Avoiding bad side effects!!"

For Depression "I turned to St. John's wort after I was prescribed anti depressant medication following the breakdown of my marriage. After a few days of taking the prescribed medication I didn't like the way it started to change me as a person and feeling out of control. I turned to St. John's wort after reading details of worldwide clinical trials. I now tend to use when I know I am going to be susceptible to a period of depression and find it really helps. My tip would be to try different brands as they are not all the same!"

For Depression "My menstrual cycle causes me to have intense mood swings and mild depression. I found I was feeling rather hopeless and angry. I was unable to handle conflict without turning sporadic and unpredictable. SJW has truly changed my life. I have not experienced any side effects. I am completely positive and able to remain calm in any situation. My boyfriend, friends, and family have all noticed a huge difference in the person I am. I am far more motivated to make significant changes in my life. I am the happiest I've been since my childhood and I owe it mainly to SJW. I cannot recommend it enough."

For Depression "I wanted to share my experience with St Johns Wort as I never leave reviews and am one to do tons of research before trying something new. I suffer from GAD and panic attacks. I have tried Zoloft a couple of times and the side effects were horrible so I wanted to try something more on the herbal side. I have been on St Johns Wort for a month now and its a miracle drug. I will say I started seeing results in the first week!!! I started at 300 mg per day now after a month I am taking 3 tablets at 300 mg per day. I feel like I got my life back. I no longer feel on edge or that panicky heart beating fast from anxiety feeling. I am much more calm and feel like I have better control of my thoughts. Once again miracle drug!"

For Depression "Only been on St. John's Wort for a couple of days, but so far, I'm optimistic. I'm a 39 year old female that has battled moderate depression and anxiety on and off for years. After watching my step mom turn into a pill popping, SSRI dependent maniac, I KNEW that I never wanted to take prescription drugs. I started off with 5HTP, but it just put me into a "fog" and I felt like the only reason my anxiety decreased was because all I wanted to do was sleep while on it. Enter St. John's Wort. I feel like I am better able to focus at work and get things done, and the constant "stomach churning" that I attribute to anxiety has gone away. I'll give another assessment in a few days."

For Depression "I've been taking this medicine for about three months. For a few years I have been living with a mild/moderate depression characterised by suicidal ideation and low motivation. I have an eating disorder and sometimes experience minor tactile hallucinations. I also have anxiety and ADHD. I have experienced no negative side effects, and the positive effects did take about two weeks to set in. I now only have suicidal thoughts when I forget my pills. My emotions are more appropriate now and I can find joy in things. My eating disorder and anxiety are still problems. I'm not perfect, but I think I've finally got the motivation and energy to do what I need to and get better. Do take this before eating though or you'll get foul smelling burps."

For Depression "Was scared to take it after reading all the interactions. i mean, chocolate.. and bacon!! Seriously?? Among many other's. My depression was making me have suicidal thoughts & I couldnt handle another day with such deep sadness, holding back tears, hurting so hard inside. so i took a leap of faith & ate a 300mg gel cap of st john's wort... my depression symptons were gone within the hour! next day, i opened the gel cap & poured half of the st john's wort powder into apple sauce & ate it instead of taking 300mg this time cause even tho it stopped the depression feelings, it made me tired & my muscles burned a little; this is normal when u raise ur serotonin quickly. So 150mg once a day has completely gotten rid of depression for me. Love it!"

For Depression "It works greatly but please continue reading to the end of the comment. I used it for depression and panic attacks, started with the tea then moved to tablets (3 times X 300mg daily). I never took an antidepressant before and I felt the effective immediately, but as the time went by I just felt better and better! Now after 3.5 months I feel as good as I was before my crisis began. I'm more focused and less worried, can't say I'm happy but I'm not sad anymore definitely. I strongly recommend it especially if you are avoiding medicines. Side effects is just dry mouth. Good luck!"

For Depression "I have suffered with depression and anxiety for years and planned on seeing someone for help. I wanted to explore more manageable and convenient (not to mention less costly) forms of help first. I was skeptical as I am constantly having panic attacks, heaviness in my chest as well as obsessive thoughts which seemed to take control of my reality. I took this first when I was at work obsessing about aspects of my life and accepted that it may or may not work. About 10-15 minutes later I noticed a weight off of my chest, I was not obsessing in my head and I just felt more balanced overall with my mood. I say it is worth a try if you would like to are struggling within yourself (also get help if this does not work). Good luck!"

For Depression "Started taking st johns wort 2 weeks ago, i struggle to deal with life changes very well and have very bad anxiety and panic attacks that make leaving the house, being in a car and going to shops very diffucult and sometimes impossible. This then leads to a bout of depressive feelings. I have always said I will never get stuck on anti depressents but have found st johns wort to be great for lifting my mood. Anxiety is still bad at the minute but I put that down to recently seperating from my partner so hope that will ease on its own with time. The only thing I found was that after missing my tablets for two days I collapsed at home whilst on my own with my little boy which was frightening. I had no dizziness but recall feeling very sick."

For Depression "I recently quit smoking and smoking weed at the same time, I know from previous failed attempts that my low mood and anxiety was not helping me stay quit so I went to boots to see what they had. I found st johns wort 334mg tablets, I have to say I am amazed how much they have helped. Almost instantly they stopped my mind racing and craving for cigarettes and the thought of a joint is not even there which compared to previous attempts is remarkable. I am 5 days smoke free now and st johns wort has seen me through the worst :) I wouldn't say I feel happier yet but my anxiety and moods have improved massively which is amazing considering I'm doing this while quitting smoking at the same time."
