Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Atrial Fibrillation "While on Xarelto, I experienced a stroke, partial loss of vision. I have atrial fibrillation. Initially, a few years ago, I was put on Coumadin. That was a hassle. Then, I was very glad when Pradaxa came out and it was prescribed. But it caused such stomach pain. I was then put on Xarelto. I took it faithfully as prescribed. I had no discomfort or side effects, but then, in December of 2016, I had the stroke. Now I am on Eliquis."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was prescribed Xarelto for two months after I got a deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolisms, and it definitely worked as prescribed. I did bruise very easily, but that was a small price to pay to completely get rid of my DVT and show no signs of it three months later."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis "This drug did great for resolving a clot in a deep vein in my right leg. At the six month mark when I was cleared to come off it, no one ever told me, nor any of the safety literature indicated that what happened could happen. After one day of stopping Xarelto I was so instantly fatigued and sick I couldn’t function for days. It made my blood pressure spike and I had to see a doc about getting that under control. It finally took about 10 days for that medicine to let me go and trust me it was a miserable 10 days. A vascular surgeon and a cardiologist both told me they’ve never heard of this side effect. Kind of scary that this kind of stuff is not out there for patients to see early. Also, I consider it dangerous because where I live there is no reversing agent available. If you decide to take Xarelto you would be better off going to Vegas and betting on a dice throw. Your chances are better. If I need another blood thinner I will go with the tried and tested Coumadin. It’s safer."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Atrial Fibrillation "Apparently helps my a-fib, but causes bad bruising and bleeding from minor wounds. I also have bad heartburn and take antacid frequently. This happens while I'm eating, after, and also when my stomach is empty. A friend who tried Xarelto had the same problem, which makes me think it's from the medicine, or at least it made it worse. This causes me lots of pain and discomfort, but I don't know if another blood thinner would be the same."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Atrial Fibrillation "Bruising is common. I have lower back soreness and right leg hip area pain. Some leg weakness in the afternoon and evening. No reason to stop the medication, in my opinion. I have had kyphoplasty and gallbladder surgery, and the medication was stopped temporarily for both. No adverse reactions."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "I was treated at a local hospital for minor chest pains. The chest X-ray and EKG came back normal. Advised docs that the pain was mountains pass 10; however, I was subsequently prescribed a narcotic, which I refused. Two days later, the pain returned, so I visited the local VA hospital. A subsequent CT scan determined a PE in my right lung. Docs prescribed me 20 mg Xarelto for 90 days. They later extended my medication due to a heterozygous mutation because they wanted to do further research. I’ve exhibited symptoms of dizziness (initially), minor leg pain, and fatigue. Anxiety increased over time because neither of them were excruciating, and I never had any shortness of breath. After telling the doc of my initial symptoms, which I no longer have with the exception of the minor leg pain, he assumed that it was in my imagination. Three months later, I broke out in hives. I was upset at the fact that they basically refused to discuss the side effects."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis "I experienced a proximal (whole leg) DVT 5 months ago with extreme swelling and tightness. 15 mg Xarelto daily was prescribed in ER for 1 month followed by 20 mg daily. I did a lot of walking when able and have only slight discolouration above the ankle along with tightness near the Achilles’ tendon now. The swelling has all gone. I experienced bouts of belching after 2 months but that has subsided now. Extreme fatigue upon little exertion has been a recent issue. 72 years old"

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Atrial Fibrillation "I'm diabetic, and it's uncontrollable since taking Xarelto. I'm sure Afib symptoms are gone now, so I can't imagine a downside. I'm seeing my neurologist this week to remove me from the medication. I live in Thailand, where Xarelto is cheap without insurance."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "On Xarelto 15 mg 2x a day since pulmonary embolism. Very pleased as it allowed me to be released from the hospital less than 24 hrs after admission. One particular side effect: I am experiencing vivid dreams since going on Xarelto. Looking forward to getting off as soon as possible, but I am grateful that I am not on Coumadin or Lovenox."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "I was in the hospital this weekend for a PE in the left lung and pneumonia in my right. Completely asymptomatic except for a very unusual episode of vomiting with chest pain. Have a PICC, and the doctor was concerned it may have become dislodged, so to the ER we went. The whole PE/pneumonia thing is still utterly unreal to us - still in a daze, trying to figure out what it means for lifestyle changes. Since they switched me from Coumadin IV to Xarelto in the hospital, I have had a non-stop awful migraine, upper back and neck pain (muscular), some upset stomach. My lower jaw and teeth hurt - something I've never experienced as I have no cavities at age 47; I can empathize with my husband's toothaches a bit now, unfortunately. Awful."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "I had a PE in 2014. Will be on blood thinners for life. Specialist switched me from warfarin to Xarelto last February, and life has been three shades of hell ever since. Weight gain, pain, headaches, hair loss, ridiculous fatigue... my period was out of control-like Carrie (Stephen King) style-until I finally got an IUD device (which I have never really wanted to do, but at least my iron stores have recovered). I found a new family doctor who agreed to put me back on warfarin, but the specialist talked me out of it this winter. I'm so weak and tired I can't stand it. Started on warfarin yesterday and get to quit the Xarelto in two days. Can't wait."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Atrial Fibrillation "74 yr. old female. Have been on Xarelto, 20 mg, for approximately 1 year. For no reason I could discern, my knee swelled up and became very painful. Eventually, I could not walk and was in severe pain. I went via Emergency Transport to the local Emergency Room. The ER doctor diagnosed me with hemarthrosis, internal bleeding into the knee joint, CAUSED by XARELTO!!! I was never warned about INTERNAL BLEEDING. The package insert only mentions external bleeding. Also, the bleed seems to have been SPONTANEOUS and not caused by any injury to the knee. Very scary! I am who longer taking any blood thinner/anti-coagulant. Avoid this drug."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis "Had extreme pain in my hip which I thought was from digging a drain line for my yard that was over 120' in length. Sudden "POP" in my hip at work one day and almost passed out from the pain. An ER visit and sudden Emergency surgery to remove clots from my hip to my ankle in the left leg. Another surgery to finish up the first surgery using a new surgical technic for "REMOVING CLOTS". Put on Xeralto 2 times a day for 30 days, then 1 time a day for 6 months. During that time frame, my niece had a massive PE and died at 25! Found out that Blood Clots are hereditary - my grandmother, father, sister, aunt, niece and myself all have had them. Protein S deficiency is what it's called. Will be on the meds for the rest of my life, I was 47 at the time. Terrific Medicine for me anyways! No side effects at all that I can tell. Have to buy from Canada due to price in US is almost $1500.00 for 3 months - Canada meds are $138.00 for 84 pills."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was put on 15mg of xarelto for a DVT. I experienced terrible fatigue and anxiety. I was an active person, but on xarelto I could no longer walk a block or do basic activities without feeling exhausted. I also started to experience numbness and tingling in my toes and fingers. My doctor switched me to eliquis and the fatigue was gone. I finally feel like myself again. Xarelto was a terrible drug for me"

It means my blood platelets stick together, blood becomes thick and causes clots...had no clots since I've been on Xarelto 20mg daily.."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "I've only been on it 6 weeks. If you're going to let a Doctor prescribe this for you, make sure your doctor is going to be there through all of the side effects that come with it. I had to replace my first vascular surgeon already because he didn't care at all that my periods were now 16 days long. This drug may cause me to have another surgery to have an IUD put in to stop my periods completely. The claims on their website that this drug does not interact with food is untrue. There are complications just like being on the older medications. Find a doctor who knows everything about this drug before agreeing to be on it!"

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "Was rushed to the hospital with pulmonary embolisms in both lungs - one pressing on the right ventricle of the heart - platelets so low after heparin drip they didn't think I would survive. After a two-hour trip in an ambulance for an 11-day stay in a major hospital, I was put on Xarelto twice a day for a week, then 20 mg daily. That was the beginning of Feb. - 4 months ago - I have been on Xarelto daily since then with no side effects at all. I was told I would have to be on it for life. I don't have any diet restrictions, but I do stay away from grapefruit - that is my own choice. I actually don't even realize I'm on this med when I don't think about it."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Deep Vein Thrombosis "I had two instances of DVT getting to my lungs. Almost killed me. I was on warfarin the first time for 6 months with no side effects. I have been taking Xarelto 20 mg for about a month now. I am having insomnia, upset stomach, and occasional muscle cramping in calves and ankles. However, I do not have to go to the doctor once a month to have blood tests, and I do not have to manage my eating habits so closely. So far, I am a fan, albeit a sleepy one."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "I had knee surgery on October 13, 2014. Not even two weeks later, on October 24, I collapsed in my kitchen, struggling to breathe. The paramedics thought, because of my age, that I overdosed on pain meds. Once they got me to the hospital, I went into a cat scan and ended up coding and dying. I was dead for 25 minutes. Obviously, they found out both of my lungs were full of blood clots, they couldn't understand how I was even still alive or had made it that long without having any symptoms or problems. Dr. Barton of Thibodaux, Louisiana, saved my life by putting me on Xarelto. It is now April 21, 2015, and my insurance won't pay for it anymore, so now I'm switching to Warfarin. I'm very unhappy with the switch, no complaints about Xarelto though."

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Atrial Fibrillation "I’ve been on this drug since Sep 2017. Sometime November 2017, I’ve experiencing some right leg pain, posterior calf and hamstring pain while driving. I’m very active and still managed to workout almost at least 5 times a week. The pain subsided late December 2017 but still experiencing the same pain occasionally. Now I guess the drug also triggers my BPH. Any thoughts on this?"

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for Pulmonary Embolism "A warning for menstruating women... I am a 28-year-old female who was prescribed Xarelto for a pulmonary embolism. My menstrual period lasted 10 days with extremely heavy bleeding and clots. Normally, it lasts 3-4 days and is very light. Soaked through an ultra tampon and overnight pad every 2 hours. I went through a box of tampons every 2 days. I was not able to function at work, and it was ruining my relationship. I held my meds for a day and boom! Period went away. I believe that Xarelto prevented my endometrial lining from forming and staying in place."

Once I started on Xarelto, this wound bleeds every day and won't heal. Almost two years. Most of my fingernails and toenails fell off (dried out). Not all have grown back. Bruise easily plus round red marks appear every day."
