For High Blood Pressure "I was taking carvedilol 3.125mg bid and it stopped working shortly after starting a stressful job and a death in my family. I wasn't able to get it under control so my cardiologist started me on bystolic 10mg qd. I was pleased with it's quick results bringing my BP down to the normal range. Now I have realized that I am tired all the time, I have no sex drive and I don't really care about much of anything. I can sleep all day on my days off. I have gained 30 lbs over the last year! I got my old rx filled today for the carvedilol and along with diet and exercise, I'm hoping to get back to my old self again. I can't deal with the fatigue anymore. Not to mention the price of $60 per month."

For High Blood Pressure "Hello all , I am a former user of this drug Bystolic, I was on it for years. I had not not noticed right away but this drug deprived me of my sex drive. I was in my forties when it was first prescribed to me by my personal Dr, I just thought it was an age thing and that my sex drive was decreased cause of that. Well fast forward to 2022 , I had been on a diet to lose some weight, I lost around 30lbs and had started exercising more, I am now in my upper 50s . I had gone to see my Dr for an annual medical check and complained to her about the cost of the drug if I could switch to another medication. With that being said, with my weight loss and exercise she totally took me off of the medication. A few days later I started noticing I would wake in the morning with a semi hard penis, and my urine stream was more potent. As the days went by , each day my penis was erect each morning and my sex drive was alive and well. I have had more sex since I have been off of this medication."

For High Blood Pressure "I took Bystolic 3 days ago (5mg) after being on metoprolol 25mg for 4yrs. Like night-day. NO side effects for me. HUGE difference on day 1 I’m in early 60’s, no medical conditions either not diabetic/overweight, exercising 14 yrs in very good health. Metoprolol about ruined me. Felt like someone was sitting on my chest, blurred vision, insomnia, extreme fatigue, light sensitivity, no motivation, borderline depression. I had a very bad reaction to it. Both Rx’s took BP from 140/80 to 120/70. I now sleep 7-8hrs a night, (4-6 on metoprolol). My thinking is clear on Bystolic too; no fog brain. Bystolic is like taking a daily vitamin; I take it and forget it; afterwards feel ok all day and night. Metoprolol was like sitting in an oxygen deprivation tank, fatigued, tired, half knocked out, unable to sleep more than 2 hrs at a time; it was debilitating for me. Bystolic is worth every penny to me."

For High Blood Pressure "49 yo male, generally healthy including normal blood pressure. I had a bare metal stent placed in a main artery and have been on 2.5 mg of Bystolic for 3 months now. For the most part I feel good. The subtle changes to my body I have noticed include uncertainty, forgetfulness, fatigue and working at a slower pace. Never being on any medications prior to my procedure I became concerned and phoned my Cardiologist. Their reply: "Oh we hear that all the time from patients on the drug, it's normal. You body is adjusting as it would to pair of new eye glasses". It didn't make me feel any better."

For High Blood Pressure "I trialed Metoprolol, Diltiazem, and Coreg prior to Bystolic (for treatment of PSVT, atrial tachycardia, PAC's/PVC's). Metoprolol made me ill, Diltiazem was ineffective and caused me to hear my heartbeat all day and night long, and Coreg was great at lowering my HR, but inefficient at preventing my palpitations and SVT events. I've been on Bystolic (lowest possible dosage) for 2-3 months and my palpitations/events have drastically been reduced. My HR has gone from 115 resting to about 90, which I am so thankful for. I was hesitant to take this medication because of other patients' reports of headaches, but I take mine before bed and have had no issues. I can't say that I've had any side effects, to be honest. I'm really impressed with this drug. It's given me back a bit of normalcy in my life."

For High Blood Pressure "Didn't reduce my pressure the way I wanted, usually between 130/80 to 140/90. Was good for my rapid heart rate and usually brought my diastolic rate down. Unfortunately, I became tired a lot which I cured by taking good vitamins from GNC. It calmed me from occasionally anxiety. It made me sleep well and I stopped having headaches. Unfortunately, I had acne, which I have never had in my life, labored breathing, some hair loss, blurred vision and I became very anxious after six months of being on the drug which made my pressure escalate . I have switched medication now and my doctor is weaning me off slowly. I have gone from 10mg to 2.5mg. It's a great drug if it works for you, but it is not for everyone and the side effects vary."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on Bystolic 2.5 mg for about 5 years. I read a previous comment about becoming depressed after starting on this drug. I too suffer from depression and have also gotten to the point where no one and nothing interests me. For about 3 weeks now, my blood pressure has been all over the place and I increased my dose to 2 pills a day. I still wake up with high blood pressure. I am going to cardiologist to change my medication and hopefully finally get out of this slump I have been in for way too many years. Btw, I also suffer from bad migraines, which, according to my doctor were supposed to be minimized with Bystolic. They have actually gotten worse over the years."

For High Blood Pressure "Put on bystolic for HBP. Did not help at all. Nauseated, dizzy, pressure in neck and head, upset stomach, heart flutters. Had to stay in bed for 3 days. Thought I was going to have heart attack or stroke. Still trying to get it out of my system after 4 days. Slightly better but still nauseated and heart still flutters."

For High Blood Pressure "This drug had some weird effects for me. I'm 21 and was on 5 mg for one year. I felt tired a good amount of the time, but I tried to remain active and exercise. When I did exercise, my endurance was great. I went from running 15 minutes a few times a week before this drug to running 45-50 minutes 4-5 times a week and I never really wore out. I think it was because it increased nitric oxide bioavailability. I just never wore out during exercise, but always felt like I could take a nap. Just weird. Also had the vivid dreams and made me apathetic. Just not something I wanted to be on long term"

For High Blood Pressure "I am a 43 year old male. I recently was diagnosed with high blood pressure 190/104. My doctor started me on 5mg per day for the first month. Raised it to 10mg per day on the 2nd month and 20mg per day on the 3rd month. Recently I started having random and uncontrollable bouts of diarrhea. I am also tired all the time with low energy levels. I am an Electrical contractor, before I started taking this medicine, I was a high energy, multi-tasker. Now, although my blood pressure is under control, I am tired most of the time and at times I can't seem to think clearly enough to perform the complex logical tasks that my job requires. The Diarrhea is sometimes UNCONTROLLABLE."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on Bystolic for two months. I was previously on metoprolol and had to discontinue due to the shortage. My blood pressure immediately stabilized, while on Bystolic, and is running now in the 120/80 range which has not been in 10 years. I experienced some dizziness the first couple of weeks but that has gone now. My PVC's are controlled but slightly more than on metoprolol. The most significant thing is that headaches and eye twitching I was having disappeared within two days of being off metoprolol and on Bystolic. I never realized they were being caused by the metoprolol. I have also switched from Naprosyn to Advil. While contraindicated with a beta blocker I could not do without an antinflamatory - Advil had less negative effects on blood pressure."

For High Blood Pressure "Not worth the side effects. Works great for lowering heart rate, BP, and anxiety. Causes horrible weight gain that is impossible to lose while taking the medicine. Also causes shortness of breath, wheezing, and chest pains, to the point I now use an inhaler. Severe depression. I never had before. Numbness in hands, water retention, especially in ankles, raised cholesterol, extreme fatigue and lack of motivation, and night sweats. Hoping to come off it soon."

For High Blood Pressure "Just started Bystolic 5mg. My fluttering is not well controlled but then I have not taken it regularly as when I first started taking it in the morning it made me sleepy and listless all day - I'm a cop and that did not work for me. Now I take it after lunch and that seems to help (my decision - did not consult doc). Seem to have rapid heartbeat incidents right after taking and sometimes when laying down at night. Since its new I will give it time - tried Lisinopril but it made me cough - for quite awhile AFTER I stopped taking it. BP seems ok so I will stick with it until next doctor visit."

For High Blood Pressure "Took Bystolic 5 mg for a year. Episodes short of breath while exercising. progressively tired with no energy. A general feeling of unwellness. To top it off, each month, it controlled my bp less and less. And I Gained 30 lbs. Never had any of these issues before! Switched to Atenolol 25 mg. Still tired but the feeling of unwellness gone. No more breathing issues while exercising. BP is controlled well. However, My hair is starting to thin (Never had hair issues before). My plan is to stay on Atenolol for now, FORCE myself to start exercising again, tired or not, lose the weight, start natural supplements to lower bp. Hopefully, once I lose weight/exercise more, I can get off the nightmare bp meds. I want my life back again. :("

For High Blood Pressure "I'm a 48 year female with hypertension in the 160/95 - 190/100 range. I am sensitive to a lot of medicines. The 5 mg of Bystolic fluctuated my Blood Pressure from 113/60 to 190/100 and it was never constant. My heart rate also slowed to 42. I had to pretty much drop my exercise routine due to the unpredictability. I also had bouts of confusion, generally feeling removed from the things around, almost a surreal feeling. After almost 3 weeks of it I am going off of it. I can barely function in my job. I was switched to Tekturna today and hope that the side effects are reduced and that I can function clear headed again. It may be great for others but not for me."

For High Blood Pressure "Was put on bystolic for high blood pressure induced by stress. This is a horrible medication. I was only on 12.5 mg once a day and side effects were intolerable. Extreme flushing and feeling of anxiety. ...stomach pain. My blood pressure actually spiked after taking this medication. Also caused bad insomnia. I was in bed awake until 4 a.m. for 3 nights in a row when I finally decided to go my doctor and got switched to another medication. Seems doctors are always trying to push the new and latest version of drugs, just to report back to the drug companies. Will never take it again."

For High Blood Pressure "I am a 44 year old female. My Doctor but me on Bystolic in February 2010. I read all the reviews and was nervous about some of the side effects such as weight gain. However, I have found that I love this medicine! It has been very effective in lowering my blood pressure! The only thing now is that I am now so physically fit aerobically from increasing my exercise regimen that now my blood pressure and pulse rate seem to be pretty low. (Sometimes in the 109/65 range and upper 40's to high 50's range heart rate) that I think my dosage might need to be reduced. Also, there is a profound calming effect with this medicine. I encourage anyone to try it!"

For High Blood Pressure "I understand this medicine is relatively new and very expensive. Not covered in some cases. While I have been on it only 3 weeks, I experience insomnia. Have to take Tylenol PM. Feeling cold all the time. Cramps have increased in leg, knees and hand mostly at night. Unable to walk as much without muscle pains. Take 5mg daily. Hope this helps."

For High Blood Pressure "I am a 22 year old male. Parents and Grandparents both had high blood pressure and passed it right on to me. I have been taking Bystolic for about a year now and had excellent blood pressure. HOWEVER, I am extremely tired all of the time. If I do not get at least 9 hours of sleep I am tried through the day. Before I started taking it I was fine on 7 hours of sleep. I even have to take naps sometimes because I just can't stay awake. I have chest pain about once a week that lasts for an hour or so. Doesn't hurt but very uncomfortable. Also have gained about 25 pounds in the past year. Blood pressure is good but side effects are rough."

For High Blood Pressure "I was placed on Bystolic and Flecainade to control atrial flutter. It took three weeks for this combination to work but it did and my heart rhythms became stable and stayed that way. I later had an ablation, which cured my Atrial flutter and Atrial fibrillation. I experienced several of the common side effects: low libido, near impotence, and chronic diarrhea, which has resisted all efforts to correct. Recently I decided to discontinue it and did so. Pulse went from 70 to mid-80's and blood pressure crept up so did a taper per the literature. After being off it for a week, pulse rates as high as low 90s, blood pressure going up daily to 140's. Have started taking it again. This medicine is quite difficult to get off. Keep this in mind when considering whether to take it."

For High Blood Pressure "I am 35 years old and my blood pressure which was an average of 150/90 was giving me headaches. My doctor prescribed me 5mg of Bystolic daily and my blood pressure dropped to 120/80 - perfect. Some side effects though. I experienced initial tiredness which waned and decreased sex drive. I haven't gained any weight but it really seems hard to lose any which I've been trying to do for a while. I think this is due in part because it's hard to keep your heart rate elevated when exercising. Overall a good drug - gets the job done."
