Remeron (mirtazapine) for Depression "Prior to taking mirtazapine/Remeron I had been on most SSRI, SNRI type drugs. I had chronic depression, suicidal ideation and anxiety. Before taking Mirtazapine I was starting to think all these drugs were a joke or a big con. I also didn't realise how ill I was until I started Mirtazapine, it's been a revelation! The first month I went manic and had a few side effects, since then I've had the first three years of my life without any major episodes. My insomnia has basically disappeared and I sleep like clockwork 2 hours after taking 30 mg. I can't describe just how grateful I am it's not just changed my mood but also my whole frame of reference and outlook, it's something akin to changing the colour of a lens on a camera, where once everything looked dark now everything looks bright. Anxiety The one area where it's been a help but has not solved the problem is anxiety. My anxiety has improved but I'm still trying to find a med that targets panic attacks and anxiety disorder."

For Insomnia "What it's supposed to do, it does very well. I was put on it for sleep and weight loss due to anxiety and depression after a stressful event in my life. I have struggled with insomnia for most of my adult life. What can I say? It was a literal life saver for me at the time. Gave me sleep and appetite back immediately and I turned around. I still take 7.5mg at night for sleep, appetite and mood and it works very well. For the first time in my life I am at a healthy weight. That being said it does not induce the crazy sweets cravings anymore. I just take it and go to bed. I sleep enough but do sometimes wake up feeling a bit groggy, but that usually goes away during the course of the day. All in all a great medication that helped me immensely"

For Insomnia "Been on Mirtazapine 30mg for 5 years. It works really great for my insomnia. I have not experienced any side effect as weight gain. It helps me stay focused in the day too. I will say tho, that I feel addicted to this medicine. Tried to stop taking it for 1 day (cold turkey) and I was doing really bad. So withdrawal after a long use have to be planned, while lowering the dose from 30mg, to 15mg to 7.5mg."

For Insomnia "Most people should consider exercise and a better diet to help with sleep and also despression. Exercise can help. Also get away from the TV and computer before sleep. Mirtazapine is probably the best sleep aid I have ever used. The more expensive sleep drugs are less effective especially if you are worried and mind is racing. You can wake up groggy but it sure beats not getting any sleep. I try to not rely on it that much but it can be a Godsend. It is also very inexpensive. I usually take the 15 mg tabs and cut them into quarters. The only reason I am posting this is hopefully it will help someone with insomnia. It is highly effective."

For Anxiety "Hello everyone! I have experience with using mirtazapine over 5 years where I have gone on and off every time relapsed into anxiety/depression! I noticed a few people blaming this drug because it did not help them on the first night with sleep! Don’t do that! In my experience this drug helps sleep but not always the first night! I find with me sometimes it takes a week or longer before I sleep better taking this medicine! Also I have more energy from this medicine , it does not always makes you drowsy! If you are depressed it will give you energy but still let you sleep at night! Lower doses are better for sleep 7.5-15mg is best for sleep! Don’t judge this drug after one day of no success"

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Major Depressive Disorder "Remeron has helped me greatly with my anxiety and intrusive thoughts. My anxiety was so bad that I couldn’t eat or concentrate. Once I started taking Remeron, my sleep improved, my mood improved, and my appetite is back. I would highly suggest giving Remeron a try. Only downside for me personally is the weight gain. The cravings on this medication are very hard to control at times, especially at night."

For Insomnia "I was prescribed 15mg tablets to take one at night for sleep (or Doctor said 7.5mg was fine). I suffered from Anxiety (No Severe Phobias; more Obsessive Compulsive Disorder type personality), and Depression. This medicine affects your sleep feeling natural, not zombied. I sleep longer, it works better than heavy sedation medicines without being groggy, and I get through all the proper stages of sleep (I'd assume), as it has helped my depression MAJORLY & anxiety sufficient enough. I use to take Seroquel (for bedtime sleep 100mg), it zombies you and is long term very bad for your health. I tried about every SSRI & SNRI, and none seemed to help & only cause problems. I haven't felt this good in 8 years. Felt better immediately & GREAT after 2 weeks! Hope it helps you."

For Anxiety "I have been put on many different anxiety medicines for the past 20 years now, many with bad side affects, then Dr. tried me on mirtazapine 3 years ago. I love this medicine. It is the only one that works for me with no side effects. I only weigh 100 lbs and take 45 mg a night with no side effects at all from the start of taking it 3 years ago. I sleep like a baby and wake up full of energy."

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Major Depressive Disorder "Mirtazapine took my depression away in as little as 5 days. It was great, now I can live. 5 months later I started having severe bouts of breathlessness. My Psych says it is not the drug, it is anxiety. I stopped the drug for three days and the symptom totally went away. I went back on it real quick cuz the depression came on fast. Doc put me on .5mg clonazepam twice a day, but doesn't help the breathing. Anybody else have this breathlessness?"

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Depression "This medication is one of modern medicine's true miracles. I started taking it 7 months ago after a devastating benzo/opiate relapse and I have suffered from MDD and insomnia for 19 years. During that time I have literally tried everything - legal AND illegal. Thank God for this medicine. I did gain a ton of weight at first but consider it a small price to pay for high quality/quantity of sleep, energy, a positive mood, and an all around "good" feeling. Everyone reacts to medicine differently, don't give up. I am so thankful to have my sanity and my life back - all thanks to this medicine."

Remeron (mirtazapine) "I have major anxiety. It comes and goes. When I get it bad, I can't sleep at all. Two hours here and there, mind racing, dry heaves, anxious. The nights are terrible. The first night I took this drug, I slept all night and I was able to think rationally. But it was a little too strong, so I cut it in half to 7.5 mg and I slept eight hours and I woke up and I felt great. I'm going to keep taking it until I get through my tough situation. It's wonderful. For me, sleep is very important. It's hard to think rationally and function with no sleep."

For Insomnia "I'm in my 80s and have taken 15mg of Mirtazapine just before bed for 20 years. Following cancer and years of insomnia and anxiety... it changed my life! It began working within a few days of starting it. Highly recommend (and bless the doc who suggested it!)"

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Major Depressive Disorder "I'm on week 4 of mirtazapine 30mg and still feeling anxious. I have some really good days, so I think the tablet has started working, but then the next day I can be anxious all day long, which then disheartens me. Im wondering whether to stick with it ? Any experience would be welcome."

For Anxiety "Was prescribed mirtazipine after citalopram failed to lift my depression and anxiety. I must say I was in a deep depression, you know, the place where everything is gloomy and hopeless and you just want to crawl into some cave and die. 15mg for the first couple of weeks nearly made me give up hope on this drug. The lethargy, hopelessness and anxiety deepened. I am into my third week and I have upped the dose to 30mg as prescribed and I feel completely different. The anxiety is reducing by the day, I feel hopeful, upbeat and for once in eight months, I wake up in the morning with a spring in my steps. The zombie days seem to be disappearing. Mirtazipine is working for me and I hope it works for anyone who has started taking it."

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Depression "Feeling fantastic, like myself again. Wanted to say I have not gained weight, in fact, I have LOST WEIGHT with this drug. My appetite increased but I needed it. I liked to skip breakfast and lunch most days to "lose weight". I only kept the fat on. With this newfound energy im experiencing Im more active and burning more calories. My increased appetite has prompted me to eat regular healthy meals and my metabolism has skyrocketed! Im burning fat and building muscle. Just wanted to put in my 2 cents. Alot of people gained weight, I have not. If you watch what you eat and your portion size, plus exercise regularly you shouldnt see an unwanted weight gain with this drug."

For Depression "Mirtazapine almost killed me. I was severely depressed and put on a low dose to help me to sleep. It did not sedate me at all but made me dangerously suicidal. I tried to take my life repeatedly. The doctor said the low dose was the issue so he upped it which did not make a difference, except that I put on 2 stone in weight. I was on it for 3 months and then refused to take it anymore. I came off it 3 weeks ago. Suicidal thoughts have gone, I have lost half a stone in weight and feel so much better. Nobody warned me that I could become dangerously suicidal and my life was put at risk. I will never take antidepressants again. Be very careful when taking this stuff, make sure you know all of the risks!"

For Anxiety "I've been on miratazpine 15mg for a good year & half and in July I got upped to a dose of 30mg as I had started to feel dodgy again (even though I wanted to come off it completely). I had bloods done & I have low folic acid & iron so am now on supplements for that & I think that was the problem to begin with. I can honestly say its the worse thing they could of made me do was increase the dose of mirtazapine, my legs are so cramped & achy I literally can barely stand, I feel lightheaded, can't concentrate & my appetite has pretty much completely gone. I'm anxious its something else but got checked yesterday & the doctor I saw thinks its the medication. I feel rough as poo! Waiting for my gp to call & will as I am thinking of telling them I'm going cold turkey, can't wait to get away from it! I'd rather grin & bare the withdrawal, can it be any worse than I already am! Before I started taking this awful drug I was 9 stone 6 I'm now over 11 stone I would NOT recommend this drug to anyone!"

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Depression "I've been taking this medication for approximately 3 years now. For all who are upset with the weight gain and sleepiness, it doesn't last forever. I think I gained about 10-15 lbs in my first few months, but I've managed to lose it all. Now I am only sleepy right after I take it (at bedtime) and I wake up feeling rested without the hangover. It's definitely levelled off my depression, and I feel normal. If you can get past the first few weeks, this medication is a life saver. I truly forgot that this medication even has side effects, since I've been on it so long. Also, I tried the SSRI/SNRI route first. On Zoloft, I would've made a great cast member for the Walking Dead. I've never felt more like a zombie. Remeron is the best!"

For Insomnia "I started taking Mirtazepine about 6 months ago to assist with treatment for post natal anxiety which eventually lead to insomnia. No history of mental health issues or sleep issues. Started on 15mg , slept again straight away from day 1. Once I felt better after about 3 months, I reduced my dose very slowly over 3 months, now I'm on less than 1mg with no bad side effects so I'll be off it soon. The medical recommendation for tapering is far too quick I believe, take it slow. Mirt has been positive for me to get through a rough patch. In regards to weight gain, I never weighed myself but I think I may have put on a few kgs in the beginning but nothing to note and it didn't continue. No major appetite increase. Please don't let that put you off if you need help."

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Major Depressive Disorder "I love Remeron! Even though it doesn't work sometimes, it definitely helps with mood, sleep, and your appetite when it does. I guess bc I've taken it for so long, my body thinks it's a Skittle. But skipping a week or just taking it when needed has better results for me. Without it, I tend to lose weight everyday from the effects of not eating when I'm busy. This helps me to keep my appetite and energy up until the next dosage. I hope this post and the medicine helps someone else as well. Just do not forget about the symptoms, be prepared for them, and enjoy ur life on Remeron!"

For Depression "I’ve had a tough life from birth on. At 17, I finally found out what had been holding me back. Diagnosed with Klinefelter's Syndrome. Was suicidal from the age of 8 on. It got much worse after the diagnosis. Life just sucked! Depressed, high anxiety, social phobia, severe insomnia, and had a death wish until my shrink prescribed Mirtazapine. I’ve been taking it for 25 plus years with no major side effects. I sleep soundly for 8 hours, zero anxiety, and life is worth living. It saved me from suicide. Now I only use it for sleep. It is difficult to wean off of, but if you are like me, there isn’t a need to wean down. If it works, let it work. I take 45mg at night. It does have a more sedating effect on lower doses, but my happy place is at the max dose of 45mg. Most drugs stop working after a period of time. Mirtazapine never fails at what it was made to do!"

For Anxiety "I wanted to share my experience with Mirtazapine, about two months ago I started having severe anxiety , I was terrified, I went to the dr she asked me if I had any family members that took antidepressants for anxiety as I have had horrible side effects from SSRI’s in the past and my mom takes Mirtazapine for anxiety so we decided to try 15mg at night. The first day I was pretty tired but nothing too crazy, just felt like I hadn’t slept much. The first week I had a few mild side effects like increased anxiety, feeling kind of out of it. Then after two weeks I started to notice the anxiety being lifted. I’ve been on it for almost a month now and feel like myself again and I’ve gained maybe 2 pounds but it’s well worth it! Does make me tired after about an hour of taking it but I’m not a zombie I just have an easier time falling asleep at night which is a bonus! Highly recommend giving it a try, it could be well worth the wait!"
