For Anxiety "Mirtazapine is the only antidepressant I can tolerate (tried all of the others). I need it for GAD, PTSD and insomnia. My usual effective dose is 30mg, but I can either go up to 45mg or down to 15mg depending on where I’m at. It ‘can’ make you put on weight but it doesn’t have to if you watch your diet and exercise. Also, be aware when the carb cravings hit, try to be mindful and have some protein instead. The fog should wear off after a few weeks. I find going to bed an hour earlier most nights helps waking up a bit easier."

For Anxiety "This is a very good antidepressant. it worked for severe anxiety within 3 days initially. Sertraline took a few weeks, Mirtazapine was instant. No side effects except a bit more hunger but only in the few hours after you take it, so take it at night."

For Insomnia "IWANTOSHARE on 2 Feb 2020 said it all. I have also been on Escilotopram for Depression, for a few years now. But my biggest issue became insomnia, firstly after working night duty as a nurse, then I was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year. Had it out Jan 13 2020 all good, but awake all night then fell asleep 9 or 10 am, slept all day and so awake again all night. This week my doctor gave me Mirtazapine 15 mg (but taking half tablet) then up to 1 as from next week. She told me that it seems to work better for sleep on lower doses of it, rather than taking higher doses. Took my first dose last night, after 20 min felt dozy, then fell asleep, woke once for about 15 min then fell asleep again for the rest of the night. A little groggy today but then again I am still recovering from my brain surgery, so a big foggy most days, overall feeling fine. Hope it continues, and good luck to everyone else."

For Insomnia "This drug has been a life saver for me, I tried Ambien, Sonata, Trazadone etc. for 15 years but came across Mirtazapine prescribed by my PCP. He gave me the 30mg tablets and not knowing any better I took a whole tablet my first night at Walt Disney World, I missed the next day asleep!!! I've used Mirtazapine for 10 years now using only 3.75mg at night and it still works for me!!! I take the 15mg tablets and cut them into 1/4 to get my dosage. The greatest thing about Mirtazapine for me at this small dose is it will still allow me to go back to sleep even after I get up 3-4 times at night to urinate. In the past once I was awake it was 2-3 hours before I went back to sleep and was miserable the next day and as I said this has seriously been a miracle sleep drug for me at the low dosage."

For Insomnia "I've been taking mirtazapine for almost a year. I've had insomnia since high school, and it's gotten worse the older I've gotten (I'm 25). I tried 4 different sleeping pills before this one, and started with 15mg dose of mirtazapine. It didn't seem to help at all, and I was still up all night and day. So I decided to take 2 at a time, and it actually worked great. I called my doctor and got switched to 30mg. I've seen a lot of reviews on here saying lower doses work best, but 30mg has worked best for me. I sleep through the night, and wake up feeling find. No grogginess, or dizziness. Just remember everyone reacts different. I've tried many different sleeping pills, and this one by far works the best, and it's super affordable. $12 for 3 month's supply? Done. (My doctor is one of those sticklers who wont prescribe anything that can be addictive like ambien.)"

For Anxiety "In 2009 I had a severe anxiety attack, with increased symptoms over the next year. My family Doctor tried so many anti-anxiety/depression medications, none of which worked. I wasn't sleeping, and thus began with my downward spiral. I live in Canada and Mirtazapine/Remeron was very new, so no doctor was prescribing it. Things got so bad with me, that my husband decided to admit me to a clinic in Arizona. Thats where I was started on Mirtazapine. When I first started it, I had such bizarre dreams, but had the best sleep I had had in over a year. Because of the medications sedative affect, it did calm me, and helped me to sleep, which was exactly what I needed. Once I was able to sleep, it was easier for me to deal with the anxiety attacks - which were not as severe after that. I did have to slowly decrease the dosage, and now take 15mg one night, and 30 mg the next. I can honestly say that Mirtazapine saved my life. No other anti depressant/anti medication helped, and I tried a lot."

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Depression "I literally split a 15mg down to into 8ths because my body is so sensitive. Wow... I have been out of it for DAYS.. I cannot stop sleeping. Put me in a horrible weird state like I don't know what's going on or like I'm truly awake. Just feel 'out of it' .. Off of a sliver! I have read contradictory things about dosing. I would indeed say and agree with that the lower doses are VERY sedating. Very weirdly vivid (not nightmarish) dreams... I had a gene test done and this medication was on my "lower doses maybe be required" I can't even imagine what a high dose would do! This is completely staying on my 'NO!' list! Be careful of this medication because it is POWERFUL. I feel like I've just been high for days. Like I've just been smoking the most dank weed and I've just been stuck in this high. When I wake up I feel like I'm manic, like I just have a huge rush of anxiety. I wanted to try this because I am experiencing "heartburn" like chest pain that isn't acid related at all.."

For Anxiety "Have had depression with anxiety and insomnia 4 times in the last 10 years. Tried Prozac, went nuts, citalopram up to 60mg, did not work, sertraline, fabulous but took 6 weeks plus to get better at a relatively high dose and with horrid side effects. This time mirtazapine as had heard so many good things, I am a health care professional. Day 3 like a light bulb moment. Better. Sleeping like a baby, anxiety gone and of mood back to normal. Amazing"

For Anxiety "Came off Citalopram, slow taper. Realized quickly that I couldn't survive PTSD, GAD and OCD without medication. Was put on mirtazapine 15 mg. But I did my research! My fear was weight gain, it almost stopped me from trying it. However, I came across research regarding how mirtazapine crashes your cortisol (which is why it works so well). Apparently, this is what causes the carb cravings. So, I dropped the carbs. It was a tough 2 weeks, but RESULT! Zero craving and rather than gaining weight, I am loosing. I gained three stones on the Cit, so that's even better news. I thought that I had to choose between being fat and happy or thin and crazy. Instead, my choice is between carbohydrates or protein. It's important to make sure to get good a multivitamin that includes minerals. Also, eat plenty of green leafy veg (after transition). But apart from that, which is NOTHING compared to cravings, weight gain or coming off meds, it's a small price to pay. Do your research, it's a total game changer!"

For Anxiety "After being prescribed Zoloft, Lexapro, etc., over the past 5 years for my "anxiety", I finally found this medication actually chills my constant anxiety. Mind you, I have never been depressed. I take it at night before bed (15 mg), and it slowly puts me to sleep, unlike Ambien. I do have vivid dreams but I wake up feeling well rested and with energy. Unlike Ambien, which stayed with me the next day and zapped my energy. I say, please give this a try for your anxiety. If you are more depressed, you might need another medicine. I found all the antidepressants I've tried for my anxiety, make me more anxious and oddly, depressed. I hope this helps those with mild to moderate anxiety, as it did myself."

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Depression "I’m on my 8th day since I started taking half of a 30mg pill before I go to sleep everyday. It helps me have a very good night sleep, has enhanced my appetite and is helping me cope and deal with the hard situation I’m facing. I am satisfied with the results so far although I feel sleepy all day long."

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Depression "I have ADHD, OCD, and depression. The moment I took this medication my intrusive thoughts from OCD went away. I am no longer depressed, even when life should be getting me down. Everything seems bearable. I just feel like things are okay, I can make it. I've never felt like this before, really. Most of the time I get overwhelmed with life but I think this medication has pulled me out of the dark hole I was in before. It does make me very hungry and sleepy, I take it in the evenings. It's hard to get up in the morning but coffee fixes that for me. I don't recommend this to someone who can not control their eating habits and gains weight easily."

For Insomnia "I’ve had bad insomnia for about a week only getting 1-2 hours of sleep here and there. I first took mirtazapine was about 3 days ago. A quarter 30mg tablet. So approximately 7.5mg. About 30 minutes later I went to bed and slept through about 9 hours. Falling asleep was peaceful. I had a type of quietude in my mind. It really just felt peaceful I’ve been having deep sleep as well. But just that the idea of sleep is really appealing to me. They don’t make you feel tired. They just make you feel at peace with everything. I’ve had these tablets for about 3 months but I’m very wary of taking any sleeping tablets. These are not sleeping tablets. But they quite that part of your mind that stops you from falling asleep naturally."

For Anxiety "Mirtazapine saved my life. I have struggled with severe anxiety and depression for a few years now, and was previously on SSRI's, which seemed to make me a zombie + give me lots of unwanted side effects. I first tried Mirtazapine 15mg 3 years ago, after months of misery and no sleep. The first night I took it, I slept like a baby. The positive effects were almost immediate, and the medication worked wonders for me. It truly was my miracle medication. I woke up way less anxious, and within two weeks I was so relaxed, less depressed and I was getting all the sleep I needed and doing things again. Last month I upped my dose to 30mg as I wasn't getting the full effects of 15mg anymore, and thats helped me become way less groggy in the mornings, as I have way more energy. I find it's less "sedating" but more calming than 15mg. I had no side effects going up - I felt great and usually I react badly. This medication felt like my last hope and it changed my life. Please don't give up!!!"

For Anxiety "I got put on Mirtzapine 15mg about 28/29 days ago, these are the first anti depressants I have ever been on but have also been on propranolol before and it did not help so I was really scared about trying these and honestly I can say it’s helped a lot so far. I have anxiety disorder and panic disorder, I could never normally even go in a car for about 15 mins without getting panicky as I had my first panic attack in a car and the other day I was in one for about 2 hours straight and I was okay, I never used to go out with friends or family as I was scared I was going to have a panic attack and now I have been out with friends and family so much in the last month. So if your thinking about taking these but your not sure please give them a try as they’ve really helped so far and I haven’t gained any weight yet either just be careful about eating so much as I have been craving a lot."

For Anxiety "Mirtazapine is a miracle, but you have to take a SMALL dose, meaning about 7.5 mg to 15 mg, no more than that. Larger doses cause too much adrenaline release, so if you gave up on Mirt before, try it again with a pill splitter at a very small dose, just before bedtime. It will help you sleep, and it has virtually the opposite side effects of SSRIs, meaning no sexual side effects, and no anxiety increase (only decrease). I take it for debilitating anxiety just as I described."

For Insomnia "I had an anxiety and started taking Escitalopram 2 months ago. I knew it would take about 4 weeks for it to work. I also knew that my anxiety could first get worse before getting better. But I started experiencing severe insomnia. I used Lorazepam for a week, Ambien for 2 weeks. But those medications would help me sleep only for a couple of hours. My doctor prescribed Mirtazapine 7.5mg, but I decided to trya lower dose 3.75mg. That was the first night in about a month that I slept through the night. I took Mirtazapine for 3 weeks. I enjoyed my sleep and I loved my dreams. I did not have an increased appetite, but my appetite did improve with my overall condition. I did not put on any weight as I was watching it after reading multiple reviews here. I stopped taking Mirtazapine a few days ago without any problems at all. And I still sleep very well at nights because the Escitalopram started working and I am not having anxiety any more. Mirtazapine is a miracle drug for insomnia. Saved me."

For Depression "Taking mirtazapine also for major panic disorder and PTSD, major depressive disorder for over a decade, have tried 6-7 different antidepressants. On the mirtazapine I am significantly happier, panic attacks decreased to 1 every month if not every other month, or every few months, and even when I'm on my cycle. Panic disorder and depression was incredibly debilitating, so I didn't sleep at all since. When I was put on this, I am able to sleep through peacefully every night fully through to each morning. I highly recommend taking this with a snack or food if you have a sensitive stomach as this may cause nausea. First few weeks, had a hard time waking up every morning, irritable for the first few months. I eat more on this medication, but its fine with me. This medication is not a cure-all, I still have my bad days here and there, but my good days override my bad ones. Have faith, stay on the medication for a bit. I wish you all the best, support and love if you are taking this and it is hard for you. You got this."

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Depression "I've been taking this for about a year. The sedative effects have decreased as time has passed. It gives me a huge appetite right before I go to sleep, but I can avoid it with some self-control. It also made me dizzy during the first week or two, but that has also disappeared. I have energy, focus and humor again. It's an effective antidpressant."

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Depression "I had been taking Remeron for about 6 months. I am 23 years of age and have had sleep problems my whole life. For 6 months my life was great. Everything seemed just perfect. 2 months ago I decided to stop taking it cold turkey. BAD idea. Within the last month the side effects began to kick in. Extreme anxiety, anger, sleeplessness, overall feeling of worthlessness came upon me. It was absolutely terrible! Today my doctor put me back on the medicine and tonight I'll be taking it again. I am so excited to see what lies ahead. If you take Remeron PLEASE do not quit taking it cold turkey on your own. Seek a doctors advice."

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Major Depressive Disorder "I've taken this medication for four weeks before leaving a review. I was previously on Sertraline for four years which helped but caused regular headaches and made sleep problems worse. Mirtazapine helped with sleep immediately after I started taking it. The first few days I could have slept all day but soon got into a regular sleep routine. After eight to nine days I noticed that my mood had stabilized and within the first two weeks, I was feeling much calmer. Extreme and erratic thinking had been subdued. This may have been, in part, to improved sleep as well as the medication itself. After three weeks I noticed a very real difference as my 'brain fog' disappeared. This was an almost overwhelming improvement. I am 50 years old and suffered from depression/anxiety since childhood. My education and work life have been adversely affected by a lack of concentration and 'agitated' thinking. For the first time in my life, I am able to sit at my desk and work for hours at a time."

For Anxiety "During a really worrying period with one of my children I found I couldn't sleep and would lie awake with pounding heart and shaking. This meant I found terrible during the day and it just got worse and worse. I eventually was referred to a Psychiatrist who prescribed Mirtazapine 15mg. Well the first night I slept all night! I was very groggy in the morning. Gradually the grogginess lessened. I found that because I was getting a good nights restful sleep I started to improve. It really was like a miracle for me. I have been on it now for about 18 months, the family crisis is over and I want to get off now if I can. so I have started taking just 7.5mg will see how I go with that for a while then hopefully stop altogether."

For Anxiety "I have experienced phases of anxiety for years. I was put on sertraline which I thought helped, but my anxiety would still come back, and when it did, it was nasty. I was sick, couldn’t eat, or socialize. It was awful. I suggested mirtazapine to my doctor after doing research, and I can honestly say this medication has helped me massively. I am currently going through a phase of anxiety again, but it’s not half as intense. I am able to eat, drink, and think straight, and the symptoms are just lesser and more bearable. I am able to work through the anxiety and brush off thoughts without overthinking. I have been on this medication for 6 months now, and I will most probably be on it for the rest of my life because it truly helps me when I hit anxious phases in my life. It will get better, and this feeling won’t last forever."

For Insomnia "I am a senior and expected to be calmed by this drug. It did the opposite. The 7.5mg dose made me more alert, gave me severe dry mouth, made it harder to urinate, and never gave me a really relaxing and calm moment. Even after 12 after taking the drug, I was unsteady on my feet. The problem with these sleeping medications is that they have such varied effects on people. The doctors have no idea if these medications are going to help or going to hurt the patient. Too often it is trial and error. It's like going to a witch doctor. Maybe the sleep medicine will work or maybe not. Of course, the doctors want to help, but the reality is that they actually don't any more than the collective intelligence of the posters on this thread."
