Vimpat (lacosamide) "I have been taking vimpat with topimax for over 6 months and it's terrible. It makes me nauseas, I feel high after taking it, i have double vision, and it hasn't even touched my seizures. It's been causing severe depression as well. My doctor just keeps increasing the topimax."

Vimpat (lacosamide) "Effective drug but within the first 2 hours of taking a dosage I have to catch myself getting irritable/bad tempered. In my case I can't drink caffeine/ sugar and take this drug at the same time without turning mean. Very expensive without insurance. ($1509.09/bottle).There is a manufacturers discount card."

Vimpat (lacosamide) "Vimpat made me see double of everything after first week I took. Very bad feeling did not help my seizures well. Only down by 50%. And felt at night restless in legs. Dizziness when walking in daytime. Not take anymore feel better. Now take topamax and I find it much better"

Vimpat (lacosamide) "I take Vimpat 200 mg in the morning and at night. I have been on it for the past 7 years, but recently I have had severe vertigo to where the room felt like it was spinning, and I would end up sick for hours. I have to take a pill for dizziness it's gotten so bad. I think it's time for a change. I'm just scared to change because I have Grand Mal seizure, and I am severely allergic to Lamictal and Dilantin, don't know what to do next. I take Depakote 500 mg ER in the morning and at night and 250 mg ER at night. But I need that extra med at night to keep my seizure at bay."

Vimpat (lacosamide) "I've had seizures since I was 8, mine were tonic-clonic on both sides of the brain. Normally I was seeing a neurologist but didn't know there is a epilepticus doctor that just specializes in just epilepsy and can an help you better. Anyways I'm 45 now and take vimpat and keppra and can't sleep. I keep smelling ammonia and sometimes I feel so angry, but thank goodness I can control my rage. I get so tired sometimes I sleep until I pee myself. It is just crazy I'd rather try to get off these meds than be on them!"

Vimpat (lacosamide) "This is by far one of the worst medications that I have ever been on. My neuro switched me to Vimpat mid October & symptoms started within several weeks. Increased BP, severe nausea, no appetite. I also started to get tingling in my arms and feet. My neuro never suggested that it could be the Vimpat. The symptoms/side effects worsened yet my neuro said that they were not ones of Vimpat and kept referring me to other doctors and tests. Of course all came back negative. Starting in January my symptoms got to an extreme, daily panic attacks, no appetite, a 10 lb weight loss, constant nausea, restlessness, irritability and agitation and overall I felt like a completely different person. I had no idea who I was anymore. I finally contacted my pharmacist and had her look at my medications. She said the only medication that I was on that could be the cause is Vimpat. Despite defensiveness & agitation, my neuro weaned me off. I got rid of her & reported Vimpat to FDA & UCB"

"I have nocturnal seizures, occurring only 1-2 times a year consistently. Since 2017, the only prescription medications I have taken are single anticonvulsants at a time. However, I am hypersensitive to medications, experiencing every common and rare side effect listed, except death. I did not have any health problems before taking medication, except for the occasional seizure. I have been taking Lacosamide (50mg twice a day) since the spring of 2022, and I am tolerating it better than Keppra (which caused anger issues and more seizures) or Lamotrigine (which caused memory loss, hair loss, tremors, and other side effects). However, that is not saying much. On Lacosamide, I feel completely exhausted and lethargic 24 hours a day, which is the hardest part. I also experience dizziness, blurred vision, bad memory, difficulty focusing, hair loss, heart palpitations, and loss of interest/pleasure. Despite these side effects, I have not had any seizures for the first time in nine years. Is this as good as it gets? Honestly, I have not felt like myself since I started taking prescription medications."

Vimpat (lacosamide) "Vimpat 200mg x2. I am allergic to Keppra. I'm stuck with a drug pusher...these " neurologist" might as well sell cocaine too. Vimpat numbs my face, blurrs my vision, dehydrates me, I'm sure it's helped recede my gums, can't remember anything, anger, then I get withdrawal if I get screwed with my prescription. Thank goodness my insurance is straightened out you don't get held hostage for some ungodly out of pocket cost, depression suicide thoughts, can't drive sometimes. I don't think my mind has a choice about having a seizure or not but I do know this there's more than three drugs to treat seizures and they certainly didn't go past three.You couldn't wish this drug on your worst enemy...later shakers"

Vimpat (lacosamide) "I have been on 3000mg keppra 750, and now I'm 1000 keppra with vimpat. Keppra seems to work some days but mostly keeps me up, less appetite,. I am 36 being diagnosed just a year ago with TLE Epilepsy. I can't drive work or even live alone. One thing that has helped with panic attacks, manic episode is taking vitamin b6. It helps with the neuro receptors."

Vimpat (lacosamide) "I was initially given 75mg twice a day for a seizure related toa brain tumor. The tumor was removed. I started radiation and chemo 1 month later on the same dose for another month. I went to a neurologist because I was told he would prescribe any Meds for anti seizure. Well he doubled the dose for 2 weeks then tripled it. Now I'm totally useless. They won't tell me why they tripled the dose only that I COULD have another seizure and that doctor was responsible. I'm not understanding why, if I had absolutely no symptoms why he would do this"

Vimpat (lacosamide) "Honestly one of the worst seizure medications I have ever been on I haven't been able to move my body all day the whole upper half of my body is locked up the whole entire time of taking this medication my shoulders was lock up occasionally and I just thought it was weird I didn't think it was from this medication I have also not been able to remember anything the first night I took this medication I vomited everywhere I feel like I'm spinning and I've been taking this medication for at least a month and a half. Do not let your doctor put you on this medication please trust me I have not been able to move all damn day. It also says it causes anxiety and I have BPD and all kinds of other issues so I'm pretty annoyed at my doctor it seems like all these neurologists aren't good at thinking. This medication is also extremely expensive and I have insurance even with insurance it was expensive this medication cost too much and it's completely ineffective it just caused me more pain than I was in"

Vimpat (lacosamide) "Had blurry double vision first week and half, felt mildly drunk headed also random spaciness and yes that's a word lol. Also on Trileptal. so far it's helped but it seems to be an intoxicating substance or it really brings out the side effect profile of clonazepam. I would bet its Vimpat alone."

Vimpat (lacosamide) "No seizures since taking Vimpat; not sure if other conditions are related to Vimpat or other medications I take. Memory problems, speech problems, sleepiness. I am 88 years old so I am not sure if my problems are related to taking Vimpat or part of my aging process. Relatively easy to take with much liquid or applesauce, take twice a day."

Vimpat (lacosamide) "I have been using this drug for years now, switched to this from levetiracetam because it would make me very drowsy everyday. Vimpat doesn't come with that side-effect and it does effectively prevent my nocturnal seizures. Unfortunately, there have been times where I either forgot or ran out of tablets and if I had stress during that time, relapses would occur. So, I don't see myself ever coming off this drug. As other people are saying, I have also been having trouble with speech and memory, and it's getting noticeably worse. Levetiracetam was also recommended as a memory-protecting drug but it causes too much drowsiness."

Vimpat (lacosamide) "Good pill. I like Vimpat better than Keppra! But at the beginning you will experience anxiety and brain fog. When I say it slows your brain down and slows it down for a couple of weeks. And the short term memory lost you’ll have for a couple of weeks Is horrible. Once you get past all of that you’ll feel good! I’m on the 150mg. You gotta push to get past the anxiety it gives you! It gave me such bad anxiety I ended up having a seizure! Lol."

Vimpat (lacosamide) "I started taking vimpat two and a half weeks ago. I started a 50mg twice daily and now I'm on 100mg twice daily as I come off of Carbatrol. It's worth noting that I also take Keppra. I find my seizures have gone WAY down and the ones I have are much weaker. However I have noticed a change in my thought process. Nothing I consider to be bad but definitely different. If I had to describe it I now think in tie-dye. For example one night I sat there thinking about ghosts. Simple enough, right?Well then I thought if when we die we are a spirit and spirits roam the world...what happens when everyone is dead? Are we all a bunch of spirits roaming earth? And if that's the case then when we look at meteors that used to be planets out in space, are the hunks of rock covered in spirits of other beings that once lived? So naturally I talked to a friend about this and we discovered that a side effect can be mania. However I don't feel manic. I just feel good, productive, happy."

"My son has tonic clonic (grand mal seizures) and was first put on keppra. It did nothing to control his seizures. His doctor then put him on vimpat and as long as he is consistent with taking it, it controls his seizures. "

Vimpat (lacosamide) "Vimpat doesn't stop nocturnal seizures for me. 200mg am and pm. Side effects are mild, biggest problem for me is not constipation but motility. I can't go for two days at a time. Very annoying but tolerable if this would work. Also taking fycompa, no help but had to reduce because it caused eye irritation. I wish Parke Davis still made Dilantin back when it worked right!!!"

Vimpat (lacosamide) "I have been taking Vimpat since 2014 and it works pretty well for me, although I do still have an occasional seizure. I want to comment on the (considerable) expense. When I was still working, I found vouchers from the manufacturer for brand-name Vimpat. Sometimes I paid as little as $40 for a 30-day supply. They will not give vouchers if you are on Medicare (or any government program), so after I retired I insisted on the generic Lacosamide, which is expensive but much cheaper than the brand w/out a voucher, of course. (I did not know for a long time that there was a generic …) I hope the voucher information is useful."

"I’ve been on Vimpat for 7 years now. I had 2 grand mal seizures at age 24 and did not have any again until 45 years old. I have not had a seizure since I have been on Vimpat at 100mg twice a day. I had no side effects which was a huge difference to dilantin which destroyed my short term memory, or Keppra which I could not function on at all. Vimpat has been great for me. My insurance covers all but $50 and through the manufacturer I get an additional $30 off A month. After 7 years, I am now just noticing some word retrieval issues but mild. Going to keep an eye on that. I am now 53. Good luck everyone."

"I love this medication! Seizures were caused by a TBI. Doctors tried several different medications and none helped. I have to admit very expensive but not anymore a generic was finally released and I cannot explain how thankful I am to this medication m. Been seizure free since I started taking it! ☺️"

"I've suffered from general and partial seizures for many years. Many medications which have been tried before have either had side-effects (some severe) or I have had a bad allergic reaction too. Lacosamide so far has only produced a drowsiness for around an hour when it kicks in, it has though reduced the partial seizures greatly and I have had no more general (or grand mal) seizures from the time I started taking this medication. However, I have noted that the drowsiness does seem to ease with time. Under medical supervision I would recommend you give it a bash as it seems to work for me."
