Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "I am grateful for those who have posted on this site, as it was so helpful to read your comments. I began taking Lexapro 7 days ago for anxiety. For years I have had feelings of anxiety, racing pulse, fight or flight feeling, palpitations, adrenaline with some depression. My doctor started me out on 5 mg, and I believe that is the right dose for me. By day 3, I actually started feeling a bit better. This does give me some dry mouth, but I have no trouble sleeping. I feel slightly 'off' or different but does not hamper me in any way. My evening glass of wine tastes different. By day 7, today, I dealt with some dating/relationship issues and pandemic dread and instead of it being as debilitating as it could have been in the past, I felt a lot calmer. I'm feeling SO MUCH BETTER. Of course we must do the internal work (therapy, changing past habits that do not serve us) but I truly believe this is a miracle drug. I wish you all the best in your wellness journey!"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "I just started Lexapro, and so far so good. I’m on day 4 of 5mg. I had some dizziness and nausea, but very slight. Eating helps, and now I have some tightness in my chest. I’m not sure if that’s normal. I also felt energetic yesterday (I know it’s too soon to tell), but today I have no energy and haven’t gotten out of bed. Everyone has said to keep pushing through, but today has been rough. How do I know if it’s just not for me or if I just need to keep pushing through?"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I said I’d come back and write a review after a few weeks, so here I am!! I’m not going to lie to you, the first few weeks of this medication were hard (terrible thoughts, increased anxiety, insane amounts of sleeping). But I am so very glad I stuck with it. For 7 months, I could barely go 5 minutes from my house without getting a panic attack. I was terrified of everything and developed really bad agoraphobia. My anxiety controlled every aspect of my life and I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to get over it. This medication is slowly starting to give me my life back after just almost 4 weeks on it. All the side effects have cleared up and I have done more this week than I was able to do in the past 7 months. I did everything I was once terrified of doing, and I had not a lot of anxiety doing it. If you are having side effects and they are getting to you right now, I am BEGGING YOU to stick with it. I almost stopped taking this medication, and I am so happy that I didn’t stop."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "I started taking Lexapro 5 weeks ago, and I can't say enough good about it. I was seriously depressed, and my anxiety of just going to work, dealing with everyday life, and staying positive was difficult at best. I broke down and went to the doctors - I'm the kinda dude that doesn't go to the doctors unless it's serious! Anyways, very few side effects; I had a headache for about a week, it wasn't bad, just kind of annoying. But I felt that this side effect was manageable. After 5 weeks, I am seriously affected positively. My life has changed much. No more bad feelings, no more fear, no more panic attack feelings, no more tight chest. I feel more confident with where life is going, and I owe it all to Lexapro and support from my family! Don't give up, I almost did, and I'm so glad I didn't. I have a way more positive outlook on my life now!"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "Lexapro has changed my life. I suffer from OCD and major anxiety. Originally, when I first came on this review page, there weren't many reviews for people with OCD. With having OCD, I thought it was a bad idea to start this medication, but it honestly has changed everything for me. I still have it, minor, nowhere near as bad as what it used to be. I used to think of my life ending; now I am so much happier!"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Depression "I have been having mood swings due to not being able to control my depression and anxiety. It got so bad that my boyfriend would welcome me with a hug as soon as I got home from work, and I would snap at him to stop crowding me. Anyway, my doctor finally put me on 20mg of Lexapro, and I have been the coolest cucumber ever. Every little thing that used to irritate me just ceased to exist in my mind. My mother said she missed how easy-breezy I used to be, and I feel like I'm finally back to my normal self."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "After 3 years on Lexapro, I have a life. I am so grateful that I found a doctor who really worked with me to find something that worked. And also for convincing me to stay on it as I had so many conflicting beliefs around using antidepressants. My moods are stable, it’s helped me during 2 pregnancies and with postnatal anxiety. I notice my mood swings and insomnia creep back if I’m not taking it regularly. It’s a lifesaver for me and it took me approximately 9 days to start feeling normal when I first took it. The initial side effects do stop. Sex drive did come back."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "Just a disclaimer, I am NOT a doctor, nor do I specialize in anything beyond my own experience. This is my perspective that I want to share for those who were just like me. I take 2.5 mg of Lexapro. The first aspect I'd like to clarify is that taking a pill is not magic. I work out 2-3 times a week, I eat healthy, and I make a conscious effort to do skills my therapist teaches me like grounding, CBT, and balance. My anxiety is still there. However, the crippling act of having anxiety that would physically make me drop to my knees and ruminate in my brain for days in a row has subsided. Side effects of weird dreams, icy-hot feeling, and anxiousness did happen in the first week. This may not work for everyone, as everyone is different. I have read those same crazy reviews that scare you. I have circled on the act of why, when, how, and what if. I still have fears. I still get anxious. However, the place I was at, I wish for no one in the world to have to go through."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "Was feeling terrible anxiety, it got really bad. I couldn’t stay asleep, was forgetting stuff, couldn’t concentrate, was losing my appetite and losing weight. I didn’t know what was wrong, so I went to the doctor for anxiety. She gave me Xanax, then I asked her to put me on something with it, and she gave me Lexapro 10mg. The first week was holy moly as it made the anxiety 10 times worse and I got depressed too. I read these posts, and they said to stick with it, as it gets better. It’s super slow, and I’m on week 7, and finally, I feel a lot better. It’s working, feel almost normal, and pretty much no more Xanax as I don’t need it. So anyway, it does take a lot of time, just stick it out."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Depression "I don’t want to get into detail with my experience. I read so many positive comments about this drug. All I can say, if you plan to be on this drug your whole life, then okay. But when it’s time to get off, you will have the worst withdrawals for over 6 months easily, anger, suicidal thoughts, deeper depression than when you first started. Can’t work, can’t have sex; everything stopped working. I took it for 15 years; this has been the roughest year by far mentally from getting off this drug. Been taking natural vitamins... I’m just a person that trusted my doctor to help me feel better and it did. But they can’t help you when it’s time to get off; they will just put you on something else. Long-term damage. I can relate to all of you going through this. And the longer you take it, the harder it will be to get off. I've been off it for about 6 months after 15 years; I’m still working to get better; everyday is hard. Just sharing my opinion."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "Please, please try it. I had anxiety, panic attacks, OCD for 10 years, but was TERRIFIED to try meds. I would cry all the time and drink almost every day one or two so I could tolerate my thoughts. I stopped drinking, nicotine, and caffeine and that's when my OCD came out really bad. I didn't want to live because my intrusive thoughts were too much. I couldn't stop obsessing over EVERYTHING and the panic and lack of sleep was unbearable. I tried Lexapro because life was not worth living anymore. Within 3 days on Lexapro, I stopped having panic and anxiety completely. I am on day 8 and yesterday I switched from 5mg to 10 mg and I was back to normal. I thought I'd never get out of that hole. I took my son to the park today and didn't have any worry in the world...for once in 10 years. I'm also sleeping way better. My therapist has helped as well. I am writing this because I, too, was reading reviews before going on it because I was scared to take it."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "I am a 24-year-old female. I've been taking Lexapro 10mg for almost 4 months now, and I can confidently say the only scary thing about this medication is people's negative reviews on it. First and foremost, EVERYONE is different, so everyone will react to it differently. I was prescribed it by my primary doctor due to my severe anxiety and mild depression. Before this medication, I was prescribed Celexa, but hated it. My anxiety and depression got so much worse I decided to do something about it. It came to the point where my anxiety and depression affected everyone around me, and I just wasn't happy anymore. At first, taking this medication gave me some side effects. My side effects were really dry mouth, some intense dreams, and some loss of appetite. The only thing that has stuck for these few months has been the dreams. They seem SO REAL! But I can say I would rather have some dreams than those scary anxiety attacks I used to get, and those depressed bed sobs. Lexapro has changed my life! Before this medication, my life was hitting rock bottom. My anxiety was so severe it took over my life. I obsessed over everything, overthought everything, felt like at any moment, I was going to die. I was on edge every second. My blood pressure was always high, and I'm only 24! I had this obsession with dying in a car accident; it came to a point I couldn't ride in a car with anyone else unless I was driving. If I did, I would get panic attacks. My depression was also bad, and I also had an eating disorder. I felt like I was never going to be happy, never going to be happy in a relationship, or in my job, or even able to hug my own mother again. I'm happy the people in my life noticed how much my disorders were taking over my life and helped me make a change. Lexapro helped my life. I hope my review will change yours."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "Since this thread was SO helpful to me when I first started Lexapro, I wanted to come back after my body truly had a chance to adjust to it. I’ve been taking 10mg for about two months now, and the change is honestly amazing. I feel better than I have in years. Happy, more energy, less ruminating thoughts and stupid worries. I feel like me, only better. I highly, highly encourage anyone reading this who is experiencing negative side effects to stick it out to at least the 6 week mark. I really started feeling a difference at a month (but felt better at 2 weeks) and it only kept getting better from there. The side effects go away. I’m sleeping better, and I’m just happier throughout the day. Truly grateful for this medication. I know how scary anxiety and depression can be. There ARE better days ahead, I promise."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "Lexapro gave me my life back. Brought me back to the feeling and experiences of my happiest times of my life. After post-partum depression, losing my husband at a young age, and a year later losing my mom. Lexapro saved me. I was able to graduate with my master’s degree and now raise my two small children effectively. I wake up everyday with gratitude."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I've been on Lexapro for two months—10 mg initially, then increased to 20 mg. In my demanding profession, a health setback following emergent surgery triggered intense panic and anxiety. After a month of emotional suffering, I was prescribed Klonopin and Lexapro. I resisted benzos but needed relief. Reading testimonials on drugs.com kept me hopeful during the turmoil. Side effects (dry mouth, nausea, headache, jitters) improved slowly. At around six weeks, consistent positivity emerged. After battling misery, I finally felt relief. Occasional rough patches are manageable. Smiling and laughing again, the pit in my stomach is gone. Moments of calmness and contentment replaced daily dread. Changing brain chemistry takes time, but the results are worth it. I share my journey for those doubting—you are human, and you are scared. Feel what you feel without judgment or shame. Better times lie ahead, and you have the strength to see it through."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Depression "I was prescribed Lexapro (Escitalopram) after complaining of severe moodiness after my bi-weekly testosterone shot was administered. The very first and last pill I will would ever take. I had a very extreme battle with Suicidal Tendencies - with just one pill! I drank so much water to help flush out of my system and after a full 24 hours later, I feel I'm out of danger. Please! Please!! Recognize the symptoms and fight through it. Get off of it immediately should you have similar reaction and notify your doctor. Hope I was able to help someone."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "I don’t know who needs to hear this but this drug saved my life. I have suffered with anxiety since childhood but never knew what it was till my twenties. By the time I was 27 I was virtually an agoraphobic that was afraid to go anywhere and had panic attacks at the grocery store and at my job, it was debilitating. When my ex and I split and I moved into my apartment I was a mess, I could literally not eat or sleep and never left my house. It got so bad that I told my mother I thought I would either commit myself into a hospital or kill myself. She talked me into seeing my doc. He prescribed me 5mg of lexapro and I had my mom stay the night in case I had a bad reaction. Within a week I felt much better and my only side effect was that I was sleepy in the morning. Within the year of this drug I have become a completely different person. I have no anxiety and I don’t worry about anything. I run every morning, I got a new job and a new relationship! I finally feel normal and starting to live life!"

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I just wanted to share my experience with people who are just starting out on Lexapro. This is my 20th day on Lexapro and I must say that the first two weeks are pretty rough. The first week it made my anxiety to the point I've never felt before with nausea, fatigue, headache with a fog. Had insomnia as well. The second week the anxiety started to subside and nausea was gone but started to get hunger pains so I drank a lot of water instead of grabbing food every time I got the hunger pain. I also had some days with dizziness in week two and fog and headaches with fatigue during the mornings (I take it first thing in the morning) and it would subside by the afternoon. Insomnia started to get better. By the start of week number three all the side effects started to diminish little by little each day. At this point pretty much all side effects are gone and no anxiety. It took about 3 weeks for me and now it's great. 10mg a day."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I was prescribed escitalopram for GAD with panic attacks after trying 2 other medicines (tricyclic antidepressants). Along with 20 mg Lexapro, I was taking 2 mg of clonazepam daily, 25 mg of quetiapine in the evening, and melatonin for sleep. At that time, I was experiencing all possible symptoms of severe anxiety, breathlessness, rapid heart rate, low mood. I felt overwhelmed and was crying all day. I had upset stomach, fear of dying. I wasn't going out at all. My family was worried and I thought I was dying. When I started the medicine, I experienced side effects: excessive yawning, insomnia, increased anxiety, nausea, sweating which lasted about 2 weeks. After 3-4 weeks of taking escitalopram, I started feeling better. I started therapy, and applied yoga, meditation, etc. Now I feel great. I can enjoy life again, and you can do it as well."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Anxiety "Omg Lexapro has seriously saved my life. I had tried Effexor before it, and the side effects were so bad that I had a mini seizure. I was so afraid to try another drug that I almost didn't take the Lexapro. I'm so glad I did though. I have never felt this free of anxiety. I used to get literally paralyzing panic attacks and endless days of crying over anxiety sparked by freakin' nothing. I can live my life now and I feel so inspired to be creative again. I will never go back. Don't get me wrong I still have anxiety at times, but it doesn't just sit all day with me or trigger depression anymore."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I took my first dose of this medication a week ago. I had a terrible panic attack and had to stop taking it. I decided yesterday that I was going to start taking it again. I have agoraphobia, panic disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. It’s gotten to the point where I can barely leave my house most days. I decided I need to make a change. I know that with medications like these it always gets worse before it gets better, so hang in there. Read the positive reviews, ignore the negative ones. I’ll come back on in 6 weeks and update with my experience. Zoloft has worked in the past so I’m hoping this will work too. HANG IN THERE. YOU’RE NOT ALONE."

Lexapro (escitalopram) for Depression "Like all of you I read every review on the drugs I have been prescribed. It helps on those really bad days to hear someone has been helped. I was put on Lexapro 20 years ago after a run of deaths in my family and on the fire dept. My doctor explained it like this, you have a natural immunity to bad events, but if you experience too many too quickly you may not be able to return to normal by yourself. After 20 years I began to feel emotionally numb. I weaned myself off Lexapro 20mg thinking I could deal with things myself. Then covid hit, and a run of bad life events again. After the worst year and a half of trying different anti depressants I'm back on Lexapro. Its only been a week and a half but already I feel slightly better. Taking a medicine to improve your life experience is not a weakness, we are only here for a short time try to enjoy it as much as possible."
