"I have arthritis in the knees that is painful at night and need to apply a medication often. I was hoping that the 12 hourly osteo gel would last thru the night. It only lasts as long as the others about 2 hours but is 3x the price."

"I used Biofreeze in the past which I have no complaints but it seems as though Voltaren lasts longer with regard to relief. I see many people complain about the smell on this thread. It has a distinctive smell but I'm not using it to go clubbing either..."

"I was prescribed Voltaren gel for my MCP joint, which experienced remodeling of bone after my 14-year career as a deep tissue massage therapist. I am a chiropractic student, so I went the conservative route first: adjustment, ultrasound, cold laser, Alpha-stim, microcurrent probes. Finally I had a series of x-rays on campus and unfortunately, there is a large osteophyte on the volar (palm) side of the base of the 1st metacarpal, along with serious lipping of the scaphoid bone which supports it (you know this combination as the saddle joint). Voltaren helps the crippling pain of trying to unscrew a jar, open a doorknob, or hold a pen. I will however have surgery to remove the osteophyte."

"The base knuckle of my index finger has been sore for a year. XRAYs showed no arthritis so my doctor can't figure out what's wrong with my finger. I tried using the Voltaren Gel on it and it helps tremendously. The pain goes away, but unfortunately it comes back when I stop using the gel. I am so glad I found something to help with the pain, but I'm disappointed that it's not permanent relief. I don't want to rely on medicine to treat pain - I wish it would just go away."

"I had a foot fracture 10 months ago and had my screw removed three months ago. I cannot take oral NSAIDS because of a stomach problem. I was taking lortab every day, one or two, in the later part of the day to make it through. I used one inch of Votaren Gel where I have the residual arthritis and covered it and taped it. After two hours I went for a walk and was able to walk farther in the same amount of time and without as bad of a limp. This morning my foot was tender. I don't think I will use it when my foot is really sore. I have learned to back off or pay for it the next day. There is always a trade off when I try to medicate this kind of pain."

"I suffer with osteoarthritis in both of my hips. I've had 1 hip replaced and both pre and post surgery I suffer with lower back pain. Used Voltaren Gel and no marked relief. I used to have, and have just re-ordered, a THERATERM digital moisture heat pad which helps all kinds of aches (knees/back/shoulder) (amazing heat pad) ... and I'm going to try another topical solution called 'LivRelief' and see if it helps (I'm still hoping). My quality of life has very much deteriorated as a result of this lower back pain - even the simplest of tasks."

"I applied it to my knees this afternoon and was AMAZED, no more pain. I read the label and then used it. I should have looked further (http://www.drugs.com/cdi/voltaren-gel-gel.html). The maker (Novartis) issued a warning letter in December, noting problems. Looks like I'll still be getting my Hyalgen shot on Friday. I will follow up with my Doc(I used a free-sample) and go from there. I have liver tests every 6 months due to blood pressure medicines and the beer I drink too much of. I hope I will be able take this medicine safely: it sure does work."

"Often my jaw cramps up and hurts more than my knees do before a storm. The Voltaren Gel also helps with the bone pain I get along my temples and at the base of my skull, so I am thankful that it is a non-greasy gel instead of a cream. (These areas of pain come from a compression head injury I got as a teenager.) I have a lot of problems trying to take anything for the arthritis in oral form, and I still take Aciphex along with using the Voltaren Gel as a precaution. (This product works well with even less than the amount suggested, so a tube goes further for me; I use up about 1 1/2 tubes each month.)"

"I started using Voltaren Gel a week ago for osteoarthritis in both knees. I used it 4x a day as prescribed and experienced absolutely no relief whatsoever. I did my research and found that relief is not something that builds up over time with this medication, so I am going to try something else."

"I have been using for two weeks. It has helped me. I use as directed.. It is a process to help your knees improve. I already can walk smoother and faster and feel more secure then I have in a long time. I would recommend. I don’t feel I have had any side effects from it. I am 79 years and like to stay busy."

"My doctor sent me home diclofenac patches however since they’re not covered by my insurance and cost way to much to pay for out of pocket ($300 to much) he called in a prescription for the gel. The patches worked awesome and the gel I’m NOT a fan of at all. I have Bursitis in my right hip and a large annulus tear in my lower back and my skin where I rub the gel has become overly sensitive and painful to touch."

"I'VE been using Voltaren Gel for more than 10 years for osteo-arthritis pain on the tops of my feet (metatarsal bones) and my ankles. I don't use it every day, but use it "as needed" for extreme foot pain. I only need to use it once a day, generally. Sometimes twice a day if I have been walking or standing for a long period of time. It relieves my pain very quickly -- usually within 30-60 minutes after applying the gel to the tops of my feet and my ankles). I have not experienced any adverse side effects. I am 72 yrs. old and had to have partial knee replacements on both legs when I was in my early 50's. (I'm not sure if Voltaren was available in gel form 20 years ago, but my orthopedic doctor did not prescribe it to treat my knee pain. Happy that I had the knee replacements when I was young enough to make a full, speedy recovery from the surgery!) I am allergic and sensitive to many drugs, but I have not had any allergic reactions to Voltaren Gel."

"Used voltaren gel on both arthritic knees for 21 days, 4x/day in hopes of dancing again as shown in the commercial of the guy able to dance again. Well if I only wanted to dance for less than 3 weeks total my rating would be 10 stars! Was mostly pain free from 5th thru 21st day of use plus 3 days after stopping. Morning of 4th day, was as if I had never used it. SO disappointing! Not worth bothering!"

"I use the voltaren gel daily and it works well. I cannot tolerate oral NSAIDs and this proved to be a welcome alternative. I use it on my shoulders, back and knees, all to good effect."
