Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I completed the 10 days of Pylera on September 18. The first few days were not too bad, though like others think, the sheer number of pills each day is Inconvenient and overwhelming---especially when you take other meds as well. On or about the 4th day, things changed. I was able to go to work, but the last 6 days were really hard: explosive diarrhea, headaches, bloat, gas, extreme fatigue, irritability, inexplicable crying bouts and loss of appetite. I felt a bit better the first few days after the medication was finished, but now one week later, I am still experiencing the side effects! I feel worse than when I started the meds. When does it stop? Please share experiences."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "After reading all the odd side effects, I hesitate to start my treatment with Pylera but I need to start sooner or later even if I don't have any symptoms of this infection. I had just three side effects, on my day one I had a headache all day and on day two I feel week all day , dark stools until I finished the treatment and that was all my bad side effects. I stop all my medications and vitamins one week before start taking Pylera and cut all dairy and red meat, I think the key is to drink a lot of water and a proper meal I had a full bottle of water (17.9 fl. oz) every time I had my pylera capsules and omeprazole and more water in between my meals and fruits during the day. I'm just waiting for a couple of weeks to see my doctor and find out if this treatment got rid of the pylori bacteria. Good luck for everyone and remember you need to drink a lot of water, water water and more water during the day, fruits, vegetables, fish and poultry."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I wanted to share my review, as this review page helped me a lot. I took Pylera in December 2023 for 10 days, as I had pains in my stomach for the past several months. I recently took a test, which came back negative! The 10 days with Pylera were hard, as I had continuous strong (sometimes even stronger than before) pains in my stomach and back, which made it difficult for me to sleep well. I was exhausted. I experienced heart pain at night on day 6, which made me wonder if I should call an ambulance. I wasn't sure if the bacteria had gone by the time I finished Pylera. However, the test showed negative, and I started feeling normal only around 2-3 weeks after finishing Pylera. During this time, my diet consisted mainly of vegetables, bananas, white bread, rice, and eggs. I avoided caffeine, alcohol, sour fruits, chocolates, and dairy products. I took the tablets at 6am, 11am, 4pm, and 9pm. So, when taking Pylera, be prepared for some side effects. But it is worth finishing, unless there are extreme adverse effects."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am 22 years old. I’ve been suffering from helicobacter pylori since 2 years with severe nausea gastritis and bloating. I’ve already taken 2 courses of antibiotics and the bacteria was still resistant. So I decided to not to go to the GI just because I was afraid that the doctor prescribe me pylera that causes side effects and so I had been just treating the symptoms. Today I finished my 10 days treatment. For all those who are reading my review don’t be anxious it is not that bad at all. Just make sure that you eat before you take the pills. You may have stomach pain - it will go away after taking omeprazole and you may have nausea but it can be fixed with what my doctor prescribed me a medication for nausea ( no more nausea after I take it specially that I’ve been suffering from nausea since 2 years). The only thing that really made me feel uncomfortable is the bad smell of stool. In general pylera treatment is not bad at all just don’t be dramatic. I hope that I got rid of helicobacteria cause it really hurts and and it increases the risk of stomach cancer."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "My success rates for eradicating h.pylori with Pylera is 100%. It's a gruesome protocol that involves severe Herxheimer reactions - die off symptoms. However, there's an old trick to deal with severe Herx reactions: a bit of cortisone. I have found that using prednisone 10mg for one up to 3 days at the most, can make the whole difference. There're fewer reactions and people are more compliant to do the protocol until the end because they can withstand it."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Before I started my treatment with Pylera I read the reviews; quite honestly I was terrified and almost did not take the medicine out of fear of experience these side effects. My experience with Pylera: I am on my 6th day and I have not experienced anything besides a slight headache in the morning that goes away as soon as I drink water. My symptoms have almost gone away entirely, and I feel much better. It is a pain in rear to have to take 14 pills a day and not be able to drink alcohol and milk products (both my favorite) but if it is the price for making this feeling of having a wet sock in my chest, I will gladly pay it."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I finally got rid of H Pylori after completing Pylera in Dec 2015. This was after 2 courses of other antibiotics combo that failed to eradicate it. Before taking Pylera, I had read other reviews that were scary. I promised myself I would come back and review for others in similar situation. Please make sure you take a really good probiotic(taken at different time) and ask for an anti-nausea medication to offset/lessen the side effects; it will make taking Pylera much more doable."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I wanted to share my experience for those out there feeling anxious about taking this medication. I too read the horror stories and warnings that fill these message boards. Of course, the schedule that you must keep for Pylera is no fun, and there will probably be a few uncomfortable moments of headaches and nausea. But truly, we should thank our lucky stars that we live in a moment of human history with such incredible innovations as antibiotics. I was sick from h pylori for years. Burning, dyspepsia, tightness in my throat-I was scared that something was really wrong until I was finally diagnosed. It’s been a month since finishing my course of treatment and although I don’t feel 100% better, the h pylori is eradicated and I’m on my way towards healing my stomach. I’m so grateful everyday that I committed to getting rid of this malady. These drug is your ally. Take it! And remember that only a few generations ago, you would have had no choice but to endure h pylori forever."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Just to counter all the fear here. On day 8, Zero side effects other than feeling that my gi function is actually feeling better. Pain to take all the pills , omeprazole morning and night before meals, others four times a day after meals containing mostly carbs. And Florastor twice a day, only pro biotic not killed by treatment. Thought perhaps mostly people with bad experiences post, thought some light could be helpful ."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "It was effective per se, as it successfully eradicated H.Pylori. But it completely destroyed my GI tract. I finished Pylera 2 months ago and the GI pains are horrendous, I feel worse than when I had the bacterium... seriously."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I’ve been on Pylera for 10 days. Tonight I take my last 3 pills. Yes it’s been so awful. I’m tired, the headaches are awful and the nausea is horrible. I’ve dealt with h pylori for the last 14 years. Literally. I’ve taken multiple doses of the prev pac but it keeps coming back. I get severe stomach cramps, constant vomiting, diarrhea, headaches and so on with h pylori. It’s like having an ongoing flu. Worst of all has been the light headedness and being dizzy. I hope like anything that after this it gets rid of the h pylori. I can deal with 10 days of this if it eliminates the h pylori. It’s tough but don’t give up. It’s worth it in the end. Yes I’ve been irritable because the headaches have been so severe. Hopefully this works."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I wish that I did not take this horrible drug (pylera). I recently learned that taking raw turmeric would kill the bacteria. During the treatment I thought I was going to die. I absolutely had no energy. I was dizzy, nauseated, had no appetite. I could not take care my 3 kids. I could not work. I was in bed and counted down the days to finish the treatment. I was not able to finish the last dosage. 6 weeks later I went in for a breath test and sure enough the bacteria was eradicated but I am left with horrible symptoms. I believe this drugs have caused my body to be so weak that my chronic pain has aggravated, and my sensitive stomach has gotten worse. My stomach demands foods every 2-3 hours. I have gained so much weight."

Took pylera for 10 days with a full meal and a glass of water. Slept through all nights like a baby. Will see if pylera was effective in killing the infection."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Today is my 10th and final day of taking Pylera (thank goodness). It is very powerful stuff and starts killing bacteria immediately! Unfortunately the good ones too. The first 3 days or so I had a lot of diarrhea, dizziness, numbness in my extremities, fatigue and NO appetite. I was only able to eat fruit smoothies, dairy free yogurt, and broth soups. As a result I lost almost 15 lb of weight, and not the good kind. I had to call out of work due to my symptoms and lack of energy. Just be cautious if you take this antibiotic and get lots of rest."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I felt pretty bad for the first couple days. What really helped me was eating a full meal before each dose. On the dose that you take before bed I ate a banana, dry toast and kefir probiotics drink. This really helped me not to feel nauseous in the morning. I also took a probiotics tablet in the morning. I drank a lot of water and chewed gum for the metallic taste. If you stick with it the medicine will work. My doctor had me continue on the probiotics after finishing these medicines."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am finishing up my 7th day of the medication. Every website I have read made me extremely nervous about taking this medication. If I can give any advice, EAT A FULL MEAL BEFORE YOU TAKE THE MEDICATION! If you don't eat, you will be extremely nauseous and throw up. I hate forcing myself to eat, but if it prevents the nausea, I will do it. You need to eat 4 meals per day. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER ALL DAY!!!! The mornings are hard, because you do wake up nauseous, but the first thing I do is grab a bottle of water and drink some. I ended up with the darkened stool and diarrhea, but other than that everything has been going fine."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am a GI Specialist and I have prescribed pylera many times.... should have asked my patients better about their experiences with side effects. Why? Because I was diagnosed with H. pylory gastritis myself and Chose pylera as First choice eradication! What a nightmare! Days 1-3 were ok but then I experienced all the above mentioned side effects, crept to work, lost 6 pounds of weight and as one of you mentioned: thats how chemotherapy must feel like! I fought through (under the concerned pitiful Looks of my collegues) and finished yesterday still feeling pretty Bad and exhausted. Hope it worked!"

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I got really sick back in 2017. I thought it was food poisoning. I kept going to the ER, lost 30 lbs also. Eventually, I was referred to a GI. I was given an endoscopy and was diagnosed with chronic gastritis. I had to completely change my diet and lifestyle. Everything was going okay until this year. All the stomach pains, loss of appetite, etc., came back with a vengeance. I went to another doctor and we scheduled another endoscopy. Come to find out, I had H. Pylori the entire time. I was prescribed Pylera. Tomorrow will be day 10 of taking this medication. I have to be honest. Dealing with this illness for so long, I was willing to take whatever could help me and my stomach. Back to the medicine. I haven't had any side effects. Maybe a slight headache. Of course dark urine and stools, but that was expected. I get good sleep and I workout daily. If you have to take this medicine, do so. Everyone's body is different. The only thing that's a negative is the 12 pills a day plus the 2 Prevacid pills."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I finished full 10 days of that medicine, doctor did not tell me about anything about probiotics, so right after taking Pylera I have some issues with my bowel movement, had constipation for a while, did colonoscopy and still can not figure out what is wrong with me. Having constant pain under left rib, doing more tests going from family doctor to gastroenterologist. I would recommend, before taking Pylera medication, do a deep research on side effects, because with bad bacteria, your colon's good bacteria gets killed as well as bad once. "

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I was diagnosed with peptic ulcer and the cause was H.Pylori. I was given Pylera. I have had a few discomfort but overall everything went well. Yesterday was the 10th day. I took Pro biotic supplement twice a day. The stool was little dark and greenish but nothing like black. May be the Probiotic helped. No Diarrhea and the stool was very thick. I did feel very weak during the day and feverish for the first few days. My mouth was bitter and even the water tasted bitter. I am glad I completed my course but will have to do breath test in a month to see if this medicine eradicated the culprit from my body. I took pantoprazole with Pylera in the morning after breakfast and after Dinner. I will be taking probiotic for the next 10 days."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "My experience with this medication has been awful. I'm on my 10th day but I have missed 5 doses. This medication made me so sick I had to go to the emergency room. Severe headache, nausea, bloating, black stool and urine. You are suppose to eat with it but I couldn't because of the bloating. Which in turn made me sick because I wasn't eating. I have completely stopped taking the medication in the hopes that the H Pylori is gone."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "It's my 10th day. The first 3 days I hag a general feeling of being ill, like all was not well, but I couldn't place my hands on the illness, but I was strong enough to work. I felt slightly lethargic and had a metallic taste in my mouth which my pharmacist had warned me about. I didn't feel nauseous, but by the 4th day I woke up feeling good and bursting with energy and felt like my body was asking for the next dose close to the time of taking the next dose. I ate a good meal before each dose and it made decreased any feeling of unease. My stool is black, a lot more and are like coffee grounds. I wish my doctor had told me about taking probiotics to replace good bacteria."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I don't really know how to rate a medicine; I just share my experience. My doctor warned me that this antibiotic is very harsh and I might feel bad during the course. However, I am taking it for 8 days, and the only side effect I encountered is a bitter taste in my mouth, but it's not a problem. I just drink a lot and chew gum when it gets REALLY bitter. I am of a slim and petite complexion (100 lb only), so I expected to have bad side effects, but I feel quite normal. Also I am eating well before taking medicines (more veggies), drink lots of water, take strong probiotics (50 billion), and drink organic KEFIR with live culture before going to bed and taking bedtime portion of Pylera."

Pylera (bismuth subcitrate potassium / metronidazole / tetracycline) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I just finished my 10 day course of Pylera and I can't believe I got through it. My side effects were bad nausea even with food, black stools, dark urine, extreme fatigue, headache, feverish feeling, and it seems like every bit of phlegm in my body is coming out one way or another. My nose runs like a sieve and also phlegm running down my throat constantly. Just awesome. I feel like I've been ingesting poison and calling it medicine. I'm hoping this takes care of the infection because I've been profoundly ill for over a year, not realizing what was making me so sick until my EGD uncovered Helicobacter. The only thing I can advise is, be kind to yourself, don't expect too much of yourself, try to not work if possible."
