"I have had the Tessalon Perle prescribed for me twice now in the past 6 mos. Neither time has it worked for my cough. I have COPD, and get bronchitis at least twice a year. This by itself will NOT treat bronchitis, you need a antibiotic. In past I've had a Dr at Urgent Care prescribe a cough syrup with codeine in it because my cough (especially at night when laying down) was so bad I wasn't sleeping, and abdominal muscles ached from coughing so much. That was a God send, and is usually the only thing that helps with this type of cough. I have told my Dr to not waste time calling in script for the Perle anymore. It's a waste of money."

"About 14 years ago I had the flu/bronchitis and was prescribed tesslon pearles along with the Z-Pak it worked great. I had coughed so bad it felt like I was going into pulmonary distress it immediately helped but now in the last 2 years I have this nagging cough it seems to come with a real bad sinus infection both years I have been prescribed tesslon and it doesn't even help the coughs keep returning. Last week I have taken 3 pearles a day at 100mg each I am still coughing I have asked for THE SYRUP and was told NO or the docs would look at me like I was JUNKIE trying to get over I don't understand the docs if this stuff isn't working why are they writing the scripts I WANT SOME OF THAT SYRUP LOL that is the only thing that helps"

"Upper respiratory infection sent me to an urgent care center, where 100mg of Tessalon Perles was prescribed. This lowest dosage relaxed the lung muscles so I didn't suffer from the coughing spasms and while I still had to sleep sitting up I was more comfortable. Prescription was for 3xday but I only took it twice daily. Follow-up visit to my primary care doctor resulted in a prescription for 200mg twice daily and that dosage was too much for me. I had a scary episode resembling a heart attack and stopped the medication immediately. Heart pounding, chest muscles tightened front and back, profuse sweating, dizziness, one episode of vomiting. I consumed large quantities of water to flush the drug out of my system and will never take it again."

"Have been prescribed tessalon perles several times for bronchitis and they've never once worked for me. I might as well eat a sugar cube. Sadly cough drops do a better job of suppressing my cough than tessalon perles and that's nothing to brag about. The previous poster who wants the syrup is right, that stuff is the only thing that really works."

"I first was prescribed this in 1988. I was keeping the whole house awake from coughing due to bronchitis. , My mom an RN, said "that's it ! You're going to the doctor and getting Tesslon Perles". There's no words to describe the relief that it gave me, not to mention the rest of my family. I was 18 at the time. 30 years later it still works as well for me as it did when in 1988. I feel, for me, this pill is "magic". Its very unfortunate that some people don't have any relief with this. I guess it's a hit or miss thing. Well I'm scoring home runs still after all these years."

"I was given this prescription due to a 3 week long virus, excessive coughing-day and night. It does stop the cough but I was allergic to it. I thought my lip blew up from the spicy chicken wings the night before. I kept taking it. It poisoned my system. I had no idea why my virus was now nauseating my stomach and twice would vomit because of it. The side effects are obviously different on everyone! PLEASE read the labels and Medical staff-PLEASE tell your patients that things can happen and they need to react to EVERY reaction that is NOT normal or feels good. My lip blew up. It looked like botox. I drank all kinds of cold beverages to get the swelling down. I had NO idea the path it would take was to make me sicker."

"Whenever I have a cough related to an upper respiratory infection, I ask my doctor for Tessalon perles. Over the years my family has had great success with this drug. It reduces coughing fairly fast for a pill and lasts much longer than OTC cough medicines. None of us has experienced any side-effect when taking it."

"I was prescribed these “cough pearls” for bronchitis and my new doctor said to continue taking Robitussin DM along with the pearls every 6 hours. That was 3 weeks ago and I’ve taken them religiously, but, still coughing my head off. Last year when I had bronchitis I was prescribed cough medicine with Hydrocodone which helped immediately. I’m going back to doctor and ask for the same cough medicine. I don’t think the cough pearls and robitussin are very effective with my bronchitis."

"Started taking this after 3 weeks of coughing so intense that I would gag and gasp and have to run to the restroom to pee. Horrible. This was the only thing that lessened the coughing, but my doctor insisted I take it with a decongestant. I still cough, but it has been fewer and less intense."

"Works like a charm. I take it only when I get an uncontrollable dry heaving gagging sore ribs diaphragm forget about sleeping kind of cough if I have an URI, occurs about once every several years. If you're experiencing side effects try taking lowest dose possible and make sure you're hydrated."

"The best medicine I've taken for a cough. Told I found out that I have bronchitis. The coughing literally made my head and chest hurt. I took my first pill around 5pm, and stopped coughing minutes later. Just had my first cough so it lasted from about 5:30pm - 2:15am. It's still not as bad as it was before 5. My biggest issue are the nightmares I just had. They were vivid, and unlike any dream I've had before. Its was promoted me to seek out experiences from others."

"This stuff caused me not to think clearly and I suffered a lot of side effects but I still coughed. Not what it is supposed to be. Would not wish this stuff on anyone. I am still recovering from just taking it for 3 days."

"I was diagnosed last night with influenza and acute bronchitis. My coughing fits have been TERRIBLE and make me feel like I can't breathe. Once I start coughing, it's a long time and a severe headache before I can stop. The doctor prescribed Tessalon Perles for me, and I had no idea what it would do. This is the first time I have felt relief in many days! I feel it's effect about 30 minutes after taking it....my cough becomes looser, my sinuses and airway become drier (not so full of mucus), and I lose the urge to cough. AND I can sleep! Win."

"I had the flu and was prescribed to take these pills for a bad cough. It seemed like every time I took one my cough got worse. I stopped taking them and went to over the counter cough syrup. Worked much better!"

"I can relate to the reviews "I kept the house awake all night ... couldn't finish a sentence." This medicine didn't seem to work for me either...for the first 4-5 days, then a tiny improvement each day. The coughs were completely unproductive until day 10 or 12. (productive = phlegm) Improvement was slight but still noticeable each day. Today is day 21 and I still cough a bit , lots of phlegm. I run out of medicine tomorrow and have notified the doc that I'm still coughing a bit (nothing like the cafeteria-clearing jags that had people fleeing for their health... "He might be contagious!" I wish the doc had warned me that it might not seem to work for a while."

"Was prescribed Tessalon Pers. following E.R. visit for Bronchospasm / Bronchitis. It works well for controlling the cough.....However, caused G.I. Upset after using it for a few days. Therefore, stopped taking it. Worked well for one problem.....caused another. Will be taking Mucinex today and hope for relief without having to spend so much time in the bathroom !! Thank you ~"

"These have worked amazingly for me when nothing else did for chest cough. You can also take them with a ton of other cough suppressants without any danger of overlapping side effects. See a lot of people complaining these give no relief, but I must say Mucinex DM and Dayquil Severe by themselves don't do much for me at all. Add this on top and it's a major change."

"I was prescribed this medication at the ER, after a coughing fit so severe I almost passed out. I took my narcotic cough syrup before bed. I woke up about 6 hours later coughing, so I took the Tessalon Perles. My coughing stopped, but I got every side effect. My head was pounding so bad I couldn't sit or stand for more than a few minutes. I was very disappointed, because I needed something to get me through the day. This medication worked great on my cough, but I felt worse in every other perspective."

"Have had a chronic cough for 8 months. Would wake up every night after being asleep for 4 or 5 hours with a terrible hacking cough that would last for several minutes. At first, x-ray for any lung disease then given medication by doctor to treat possible GERT. No help. Then medication for asthma, no help. Then medication for allergies, no help. Then was given Benzotatate. Coughing stopped almost immediately. Have used it for over a month now and have only woken once with a cough but it was not near as violent as my other coughing spells. Gentle cough and fell back asleep immediately. I've read some of these other reviews that it wasn't helpful but for me it was great."

"Got some type of respiratory infection with awful post nasal drip that has been hanging around for 3 weeks. The worst was the cough that was making my throat raw and keeping me up every night. Finally this week, I was prescribed Tessalon Perles 100mg/3x a day, along with an antibiotic for the infection. After one dose, I saw immediate improvement. Coughing was almost eliminated, and my throat started feeling better immediately. The only side effect for me was sleepiness, which actually was welcome since I was sorely in need of rest. These actually worked better for me than Tussinex, which I had been prescribed and took several years ago for bronchitis. I also prefer to avoid any opioid meds whenever possible. I had never heard of Tessalon Perles, but they have worked really well, for which I am very thankful."

"Took this and had the worst 4 hours of non stop dry cough, no relief. Finally took robitussin again and stayed with that and Tylenol to get some sleep. Was really hoping for sleep relief when I came back from Dr. But this was not it."

"Was just rx'd these for bronchitis with a dry, hacking cough that just starting to break up. I am barely coughing other than to clear throat now and cough up stuff. The continuous hack is gone! Great for daytime use to avoid cough syrup with codeine."

"I got prescribed this along with an antibiotic back in 2019 for pneumonia. Let me just say it didn't work at all for my cough and possibly made it worse. I ended up just taking mucinex and that stopped the coughing, I'd recommend you do the same! If I could've rated this 0 I would've because it's a bogus drug!"
