"Have been prescribed this med twice before. First two times worked like magic. Just swept the urge to cough away. This time, years later, same story. After 8 days of continuous wracking coughs, and 20-hours a day in bed, gave up on OTC-DM tablets and went for better help. After 1 perle, the coughing has subsided. No side effects. Bliss."

"Bronchitis. I'm also a smoker for almost 30 years. Was hacking due to a mucus in my esphogus/bronchi that I could *not* clear out. My stomach, back, sides, throat and chest were in agony from useless coughing. Urgent care gave me these...along with the steroid and Levaquin I asked for. I had never had nor heard of this medicine. I didn't expect much. Says take three times a day. Well, you know I took one perle and within half an hour later-blessed relief? No coughing. Three hours or so later I started coughing. Had to dose again. Again....after half an hour of hacking--*poof* cough is gone. In my honest opinion this pill is fabulous!! It should be available OTC because everyone should be able to get this relief when needed. I have experienced no side effects from it this far. I have never experienced any cough relief like this. I used to lament the discontinuation of the old Vicks44, because that was the best cough relief I"d ever had. This stuff right here? Superb."

"I've had asthma since I was a baby. all colds since I was a baby have ended up turning into bronchitis or pneumonia. I am 29 now and asthma only flares up once or Twice a year from a bad cold. The ONLY thing that has ever helped my cough was codeine cough syrup... It's a miracle drug. (Aside from inhalers but that never stops the cough) However after 2 weeks of horrible bronchitis with coughing fits so bad I am dry heaving, I went back to the doc and told him I needed something that didn't make me drowsy so I could actually function during the day without coughing. He gave tessalon perles. I just took one dose 100mg an hour ago and my coughing has virtually stopped even laying down. THANK GOODNESS FOR A NON-NARCOTIC MED THAT WORKS!"

"This is the second bronchitis episide (6 months apart) that I have used Tessalon perles. They are like a miracle that let me stop coughing so severely and also sleep at night! I tried taking just 1 when first prescribed and didn't notice any improvement, so I've found 2 at each dose works miracles for me!"

"I was prescribed this for cough. My sister is a respiratory therapist of 25 years. She said it's really bad to stop the mucus being coughed up and suppressing the mucus to settle into your lungs. She said a lot of people end up getting pneumonia when they take it for long periods of time."

"Tessalon Perles worked very well for me. Stopped the hacking cough of COVID dead in its tracks. The only side effect I've had is a slight increase in sleepiness, which, given the situation, isn't a bad thing. It makes it easy to rest while recovering."

"Just started using tessalon perles while having a horrible cough from bronchitis. Very shortly after taking first dose I am hardly coughing at all! That's awesome as last night I was coughing so much I woke up with no voice! Not having any side effects from it as others have reported. Love it!!"

"Made the cough completely vanish, but had a pretty bad headache couples with constant drowsiness and light dizziness. Definitely worth it, but awful when i have to get a lot done at night (which i often do). Overall: They get the job done, but it ultimately you must weigh the cough vs the side effects."

"My cough kept recurring for weeks. It returned two days ago and kept me in bed. I picked up my prescription for Tessalon Perle 100 mg this morning and took one and immediately stopped coughing. I have taken 3 more throughout the day and have not coughed. It worked amazingly well."

"I was sick for a few days and the constant coughing was making my chest hurt. I thought I had bronchitis or something worse so I ended up going to the ER. The doctor prescribed Tessalon Perle. I figured it was a "magic" pill after hearing about the side effects. Cool! I took one. I did noticed the cough was reduced but still there. I did sleep better that night after taking 1 pill. By the next day, my cough was gone. I did have a lot of green mucus so I took Tylenol severe cold. I did cough but it was to bring up all that mucus. I feel better after 2 days and 4 pill later."

"I have had my respiratory virus for quite some time which had turned into a infection. I was up all night coughing and with a tickle in my throat. Could not even get a quick nap in I was coughing so much. I decided to bust out the Tessalon Pearls my doc prescribed me a year or so back.. after trying DayQuil and NyQuil severe which didn't seem to be working whatsoever for my cough. I took 100 milligram Pearl and within 20 minutes the urge to cough Reduce by at least 50% I'm amazed at how quickly it works and can't wait to fall asleep for the first time in days. I would suggest trying this before going to the more sedate of a narcotic and of things with the cough syrup definitely worth it and way less symptoms and side effects."

"I had asthma as a child and can tell you getting sick in the winter always leads to bronchitus horrible coughing fits so much to dry heaving being unbearable. Im 30 so now experienced in having that winter cold no longer do i need antibiotics as the respitory infections become less and less ive found running jogging or swimming staying in cardiovascular health is the best way to avoid this disaster , but these tessalon perle that first time ive had them this year work miracles for me they almost instantly subdue the coughs two pills at a time i experience no side effects other than drowsy and they are perfect for night when your body is slowing down the cough is coming back and its impossible to sleep when you need that rest"

"Doctor prescribed 100mg perles. I am still coughing like crazy, congested and can't breathe. I wanted promethazine DM cough syrup (NOT the codeine one - as I don't do well with codeine). Doctor prescribed these stupid things instead. Kaiser does not cover the cough medicine that works."

"As with most medications, there are limitations for which it works. I was prescribed this when I had pertussis (Whooping Cough), about 3 weeks in, and wish I'd have had it sooner. If you've never had it, it's also known as the '100-day cough' and is absolutely the most horrible cough ever. It's non-productive, just random deep coughing, whenever it wants, for however long it wants, day or night. I had ruptured blood vessels in my eyes from coughing so hard. There is no treatment for pertussis other than antibiotics to make you not contagious. I'm struggling to imagine not having these while the disease ran its course. I'd give it 20 out of 10 if possible."

"I can feel the medicine start to work after about a half an hour. I'm going on my 3rd week with a bronchitis cough and it's the worst. It gets so bad that I can't breathe and my head hurts. I've never had coughing fits like this in my life, so I didn't know if these pearls would work. They make me a little dizzy and tired, but I can tell they work. The relief is amazing. They last about 8hrs. I wouldn't say they take the cough away completely, but there's definitely an improvement."

"I take care of a 94 year old and she came down with a horrible cold with cough. Her doctor prescribed tesslon pearls and within a matter of days she started hallucinating and started going into crazy dreams. She got confused so bad she had no clue who anyone was or that her house was even hers. At the same time she was also prescribed a steroid to help her lungs. Her family would not let me take her off the tesslon pearls. They kept saying it was the steroid. It clearly states in the list of side effects that hallucinating is something that can happen. Read the side effects of this medication before taking it people. Especially when your giving it to elderly!"

"I've had bronchitis for two weeks and the tessalon pearles have not worked for me. What has worked, to sleep at night, is taking 2 Benadryl liquigels at bedtime. During the day I drink a lot of water, suck on ricola extra strength cough drops, and I have an albuterol inhaler."

"Was prescribed for cough from bronchitis. At first I was reluctant to take it as it said it caused drowsiness as I am hypersensitive to meds. I finally got desperate enough to take one and was actually able to sleep in my bed after 4 nights in recliner. It has now been 6 weeks and I still have coughing fits if I don't take the Tessalon. I am hoping this will eventually go away. The only thing you might consider a side effect that I have had is that I have these crazy dreams. Not nightmares but just craziness. Thank goodness for my doc! :)"

"These simply do not work. I'm pretty sure the over-the-counter cough medicine was doing more good than these little honey pills. Everyone leaving 10 star reviews has got to be working for a pharmaceutical company or something. These things are a joke."

"The worst choice of medication to treat a cold. I had a cold return after 6/7 wks just to be given the this same medication again. My cough is worse and the headache from the pressure is a nightmare. Constant coughing at night. This is day 3 of the second go round with this cold and I'm not taking it anymore. It does nothing for the sinus drainage and it just makes the cough worse not better. Will not make another apt for a different antibiotic so over the counter here I come!!! This is a waste for a $200 visit."

"I use these particular for a dry cough I get. They work best when I just have a nagging cough that is nonproductive and my coughing creates irritation that produces more coughing. They stop the cycle. If I have a bad cough from a cold with full lungs my dr gives me something different."

"I had a bronchitis cough that left my entire body in pain. It seriously felt as though I had worked out and was dealing with residual body aches. When my doc realized the severity, he prescribed tessalon. Initially, it felt like my cough was getting worse, but successive doses definitely helped to quiet me. This was far more effective than any narcotic containing cough serum. It left me pretty sleepy, but I needed the rest anyway."

"I was really sick for a week and went in to see my doctor for cough that was uncontrollable. He first prescribed amoxicillin. That did not help with my cough. Then I was prescribed Tessalon Perles and it seemed to work. I was having itchiness all over my body. Also welts. I then realized it was the Tessalon Perles that was doing it. I stopped taking them. Now I don't itch but still have a cough."
