Zithromax Z-Pak - can I take something to help loosen up my chest congestion with this medication?

I may be a bit late in answering this for you - may help for next time.
You could take guaifenesin (any form orllay) to help loosen phlegm and increase the lubrication of your lungs allowing for a productive cough and decreased chest congestion.

Mucinex is really good to take while on a z-pack. I was using it together when I had pneumonia and bronchitis,
