For those that have witnessed bad side effects, such as sudden weakness, lethargy and drastic reduction in mobility, did this reverse once taken off of Xtandi? If so, how long did the recovery take? Just a side note, based on comments posted, it seems as though the older patients, 80s, are the ones experiencing the debilitating side effects. My dad, 81, has been off of this medicine for two weeks and has still yet to recover from the negative side effects. He has gone from being incredibly active, to suddenly in the hospital not being able to stand or sit up at times. We are curious if he will recover from the side effects or if the damage is permanent.
Xtandi - Are the side effects permanent?

I was on Xtandi for three years (ages 73-76). There were some side effects such as weakness, hot flashes, weight loss, and some lethargy. Also there was an increase in blood pressure and a loss of appetite. My last Xtandi was in the middle of May. The most irritating side effects were with taste and odor. Anything smoked was really awful. For one Thanksgiving, my son-in-law smoked a turkey. I sat down at the table, smelled turkey in the room, and I couldn't eat or want to taste anything. Taste changes were also not liking meat (beef and chicken). I could eat meat that was crisp, but not the way I'd previously liked it. I found one brand of bacon that was tolerable, but eggs turned my stomach. Once I was off the Xtandi, it took a couple of months for these foods to be tolerable. Now, 4 months out, I even initiate going to a great BBQ place, and I have regained the weight I'd lost. My BP meds are now cut in half, and I'm maintaining the BP I tried to keep for the past 20 years. I find I'm not as steady on my feet as I once was, but blame it on increased age, and the loss of some core muscles which are now building back with a slight increase in testosterone. If your dad has been off Xtandi for two weeks, give him time, and keep him exercising. I have walked our dog a mile each morning, and then have had a fairly active lifestyle.
