My husband found a scale in my son's backpack. We know he smokes marijuana. He told my husband he uses it to weigh the weed he buys to assure he is not getting ripped off. Is this common with users or should I suspect he is selling marijuana?

I use marijuana frequently and I have a scale. I do not sell any drugs. I really do use the scale to check weights see if I got ripped off or check how much I have left.

I would watch for signs of more than usual people calling and coming over. He may also go out after he recieves the phone calls, That would also point to dealing. He may even buy things that he normally would not have the money for ! ( Hope all turns out ok )

Most casual users of marijuana would not have a scale to weigh their weed. That doesn't necessarily mean he's selling but it does imply that he's more involved with marijuana than the average casual user. Being heavily involved with any drug is not good.
Keep in mind that marijuana is still illegal in most countries and there are heavy penalties for possession and sale, especially in the U.S.
Talk with your son and explain your concerns. Make sure the important parts of his life aren't slipping such as school/work/etc.

My son is a freshman in college now and we discovered his pot in the second semester of his junior year in high school. Trust me when I say we have not treated it lightly, at all, and have agonized over the way it has changed him. Of course we have tried everything we knew to get him to stop. Now, he is in college and was home a few weekends ago when my husband's instincts compelled him to look into our son's backpack. They talked about it, cried, etc. But at the end of the day, he's going to do what he wants to do no matter what we do or say. I am sure he gets high everyday. He will have to face and deal with this demon one day, as a consequence of a bad choice. Thank you for your response!

Actually, most pot heads do own a scale. we dont like to be ripped off. Lol.
