Methylphenidate has a number of different formulations.
How long the effect of the drug lasts depends on which one you are taking.
Immediate release formulation lasts about 8 hours.
Sustained release formulation lasts about 8 hours.
Extended release formulation lasts about 24 hours.

I am taking 3-20mg per day. Just recently started on # 3 but having really bad headaches. I would like to cut the 3rd pill out.
