Codeine is a most cases, a very mild opioid medication that is used as a combination medication the form of a tablet primarily used for moderate acute pain and as a liquid formulation for chronic cough, flu and mucus expectorant. All forms of Codeine are an opioid and therefore are a schedule II or III drug and can cause severe dependence and misuse. Depending upon the type of formulation you are taking would be good to know if I am answering your question correctly however if you’re taking the tablet form, depending upon the dose and tolerability/side effects, along with the amount of NyQuil you’re taking, I would say for the most part it should be fine to take the NyQuil with the Codeine product with minimal risk for side effects. Remember that both contain medications that are considered CNS depressants and can cause shallow breathing and respiratory problems when taken together. That being said it would be best to take the NyQuil roughly 45 minutes to an hour apart from each other so that the Codeine can have time to start breaking down and taking effect to minimize any side effects and to prevent your kidneys from getting overwhelmed. I’d suggest talking with your physician about the most effective way to take both together. Remember that you are the patient and have a say in any health/medication decisions that you believe are appropriate/safest for you. I hope this helps.
