High Blood Pressure - Seems like my heart rate goes down while taking Metoprolol 25mg and?

Hi, I too take Metoprolol I take 50mg twice per day am&pm. I have a pacemaker fitted so my heart rate doesn't go below 60 bpm, but since taking Metoprolol I have notice my heart rate goes down and normally stays around the 60 beats per minute . My blood pressure is a problem because one minute it is in the 150's and the it goes the opposite just below100, so I am keeping a diary of the readings. In a few weeks we should be able to see a trend and then we will see if we need to change the medication.
Well I hope things will settle down for you, it might just mean in your situation your body needs more time to get used to the medication. Liz.

yes, it is normal for your heart rate to lower while taking Metoprolol. If your heart rate drops more then it should your doctor will lower your dose if not he will comment on your heart rate being low. This is what I know from taking metoprolol. It is a good drug.

Hi - yes, it does. That's exactly why they are giving me Metoprolol 50mg. I don't have high blood pressure, I have SVT, so they want to lower my heart rate.

I take 25 mg of atenolol a day and it is in the same class of medicine as the metoprolol as both are beta blockers. The atenolol lowers my heart rate too and both my doctor and I want this effect as it reduces the stress on the heart.
