I took 3 Ambien and earlier today I took a total of 4 Lortab. I'm starting to worry. Note, I haven't popped all 3 at the same time, neither the 4 Lortab. Thanks in advance.

Further details... I am not an abuser. I take ambien to sleep at night because I have chronic anxiety and depression. The ambien hasn't worked in a while so I wanted to up it to 3 now. And I don't abuse lortab either, notice I said 4 not 14!!!!!

I just took 3 to try to make me go to bed cause normally I do to and I was still up a while last night after my 2 10 mg ambient

I was just going to ask the same question! One pill does nothing for me. So I always take 2 right before going to sleep. I wanted to know if 3 was dangerous for od reasons. I haven’t had the sleepwalking stories with two ambien, I just seem to get hungry for pumpkin pie pop tarts though...

I have been taking Ambien for 10 years. I started out with 5 mg, then to 10 mg, then to Ambien CR, then back to 10 mg with 2 generic over the counter sleep aids and that seems to be helping. I fear going over what's prescribed to me on the Ambien though.

I know this is a late response but I've been having the same issue! I got 1 1/2 hours of sleep after taking 40mg ambien and 4mg xanax (not all at once 12pm-7am) no sleep. Wide awake staring at my ceiling naming all the state capitals from the west coat to the east coast, up and down, zig-zag, alphabetical, you get the picture. From what I gathered from this thread I definitely need to find something else to sleep besides ambien. the xanax is mostly for panic attacks and I have a lot of panic attacks so I don't want to use them to sleep, this is making me a sleep deprived crazy person.

Ibelieve so.i read before that in order to od you would have to take anywhere from 2000 to 3000 pills I myself always start off with four if that don't work I wait a little while and I take maybe five or six the most I've ever taken or 7 and that was because I had eaten before I took them they say that Ambien on an empty stomach works much faster so I generally while I have them I don't eat anything my problem is I've been trying to find out I just had a couple of cookies and a little pinwheel sandwich is that going to be enough for me to fall asleep or am I going to have to stay awake for a little while longer cuz it's already been an hour and take more I don't want to waste them obviously but there's nowhere to answer this somebody please help

I take .5 xanax tab 15 minutes before i take my ambien. Both prescribed. I used to use alcohol to induce sleep (ie pass out) but now I rarely drink at all. I’m so envious of people who just “go to sleep”.

I know this is a really old post but I'm going crazy. I'm on 10mg of Ambien nightly and it doesn't affect me at all (I'm also on 40 mg of valium a day and I get 30mg of Xanax per month for panic attacks). Me and my doctor have tried everything on the market and the only thing that actually worked was Doxepin but it increases my appetite exponentially and I was bulimic for 12 years so I'm trying to stay away from drugs like that (Seroquel, etc.). Please someone help -- I have a drs appt tomorrow and after taking all my meds I'm still awake at almost 6am. This is a nightly routine. Once I fall asleep (around 8-9am) I can stay asleep but nothing will put me to sleep and keep my there for more than an hour. Can anyone please share some advice ?!

I don't think it is safe to take 3 ambien in any 24 hour peroid,(plus why are you taking ambien during the day unless that's what the Dr have them to you for it you work overnight or something and the Dr is trying to regulate your body and make you sleep during the day) and if you are prescribed 4 Loratab's a day then I HOPE you are taking them as prescribed meaning every 6 hours through the day.
There have been a lot of deaths lately that involved to many ambien mixed with too many pain pills at the same time. I guess what I'm trying to say is it you are taking the hydros responsible then you surely do not need more than 20mg of ambien during any 24 hour period like the rules for ambien say. If you do decide to continue taking them like you are just please be careful.

Balbanese has absolutely no interest in being a health professional haha. The audacity to jump down someone's throat that they know nothing about is already a negative influence.
Health professionals listen, absorb, and find the most productive (yes, productive)
Manner to explain themselves or the situation.
I'll give you an example:
Hey, I think I took 100 mg of Zoloft and I usually only take 50, what should I do?
You're going to feel terrible. You have a problem with pills and need to talk to your doctor about taking pills Willy Billy, as Sertriline can make your anxiety (extremely vague) go insane! Bad! Don't ask for help! I'll shame you instead of help you!

Zoloft is a very heavy anti depressant. Sertriline in higher dosages than taken can increase anxiety, slumps of depression, and even suicidal thoughts. I recommend calling a close friend or family member to be with you for the next 24 - 48 hours. You WILL be ok, and can contact us here, but I highly suggest having someone around to kind of 'even' yourself out and have someone to speak with, just in case th medication does make you emotional or upset (which would be normal!).

Hello to all the non sleepers. I am 32 year old female, married, mother of 9, and my husband is a disabled combat soldier amputee. So, I have a lot of stress and anxiety, along with seizures. I'm a big bowl of roses.
Anyway, I don't sleep. If I don't sleep, my anxiety gets worse which triggers my seizures. I am currently taking, 2 mgs of Ativan(as a seizure savior if I can catch them in time) 100 mgs of benadryl, 1 mg Klonopin 4 x's day (for an anti convulsive and anxiety), and keppra (for seizures). I also take up to 30 to 40 mgs of ambien to help get me to sleep and if I wake, I take a bit more. I use to take xanax, but I would do some crazy stuff on that.
I am the classic case of sever insomnia. My behavior health doctor is lost as to how to help me. I get passed from one doctor to another.
I also have a sexual abuse back childhood. I can't get past, but working on it. Right now I'm under so much stress. My 9 children are in Missouri and my husband and I are in San Antonio getting his amputated leg worked on. Also they just found a condition called abdominal vascular malformation that I have to make time for, for the surgery.
I will admit, I take way to much, but until my seizures are under control and my anxiety, sleep is my only outlet. By the way I have been on ambien for 10 years now. I want to start finding other outs. So, once my doctor can get my seizures under control, I might get my sleep back.

This is an old response but dude idk about the lortab but I take 3 ambien every single night. They are 10mgs so a totally of 30mg. I'm on them right now and honestly I feel nearly nothing and have been doing so for months and my body is fine I'd say go for it

30 mg is not good. Do this. Relax and deep breath, slowly for 10 min. The take a 1:5. 5mm. Disobey it under you young. Then take 2 melatonin 2nm each. And the other 5 mm. But swallow it. Don't eat a thing for 1 hour. And don't drink anything. But some blond folds on. You'll sleep like a babby

Never take a medication without following the instructions.
I have a presciption for Ambien and might take it once in three years - because I only use it in extreme and crippling insomnia. I take the dangers of Ambien very seriously and do not want to be dependant on any drug.
I suffer constant insomnia. I have found that taking fish oil is very beneficial. I also suggest experimenting with meditation to calm a restless or troubled mind.
The worst problem in insomnia is anxiety. Insomnia without anxiety is not so difficult to live with and it is not as tiring. Try to train your mind out of the anxiety.
My recent solution to insomnia and it works wonderfully for me is to sleep with an ipad turned at the lowest light setting and low volume. i watch a 22 minute sitcom in series on netflix until i fall back asleep. it keeps my mind off my own problems. oddly Frasier and King of the Hill really help me fall asleep. The plots are simple enough to amuse me without alerting my attention to stay awake. When i wake up frequently at night I actually enjoy the excuse for the distraction. It won't work for everyone, but I know my sister does the same thing to fall asleep. If you listen to a familer series or movie that you know well, it can help some people drift off to sleep. If you share a bed with another person you might have to use headphones. When I travel, I watch the Big Lebowski and it helps me sleep every time and never ceases to amuse me.
I searched this question because a friend of mine took 30mg of Ambien with alcohol last night in desparation and I am really worried about her. She seems to be ok today but not everyone will be so lucky.

I have not read all the responses. I too take more Ambien than before - sometimes 2 10 mg pills, sometimes even more. I don't like doing so and I know it is a very dangerous game/dance with the devil. But, I have been a very bad sleeper for most of my adult life and absolutely nothing - from Zen to Yoga, to running miles to sweat lodges, to talk therapy to body-work has helped. They had other beneficial aspects to be sure but paled in comparison to the effectiveness of Ambiem.
Ambien allows me to have a life where I can go to bed at a predictable time and get in tune with the rest of the world. I actually have restorative and what I believe to be very deep nights sleep as a result of Ambien. I don't believe I have ever slept as deeply or as comfortably before.
While I wake up a bit groggy and while it takes a good few hours for all the Ambien to leave my system I feel that I have gotten a full tank's worth of sleep the night before.I rarely your yawn or feel fatigued or feel my energy flag during the day. In fact, arguably I had the most productive last year of my life which I owe in large measure to the beneficial aspects of Ambien.
My concern is that with increased usage/dosage the side effects have also increased and my amnesic eating and walking around -and at times driving behind the wheel of a car-Him have also increased. I am very concerned. A doctor friend of mine who does expert witness work (I myself am a trial lawyer) told me about to horrible cases he has been retained on involving Ambien. Both resulted in criminal arrests and are being prosecuted as serious offenses. One involved a police chase with cars going approximately 10 to 15 mi./hr. It would be funny if this wasn't so tragic and real. I don't have advice to offer to anyone except to acknowledge how incredibly effective and seductive this drug can be. I pray for all of us.
I am very curious if anyone has had any luck with mixing Ambien with some other medication such that the net effect was that they were able to take less Ambien and need less Ambien in order to fall asleep?
My own experience with Ambien and alcohol is that while the alcohol seems to 'help' in the sense that it takes a bit of the edge off and gets the Ambien to work faster it seems to put my sense of judgment further and further out of my reach and control. A very dangerous double-edged sword.
Any advice and/or constructive comments are most welcome.

Hi there and welcome to DC. Though this string is from last year, I remember it well. I want to tell you that mixing alcohol and drugs is a bad idea. I know you know that already so I won't keep beating a dead horse.
Instead I will use a member of my family who uses alcohol to deal with former abuse. She doesn't think she has a problem but keeps asking me the same questions regarding sleep or lack of it. She has tried various sleep aids but continues with the fitful sleep and fear that her dead husband will pop out of the woodwork to haunt her.
I saw her only a few weeks ago and had the opportunity to observe her activities yet again. Some things never change... drinking wine in the evening to unwind or relax because that is the only thing that works followed by a sleeping pill... doesn't keep the person asleep all night. When the alcohol wears off... so does sleep. She doesn't get that this pattern is bad and potentially lethal. I love my sister and want to see her in intensive counseling and therapy. She won't go... she just wants to forget all of the past abuse... and thinks drinking wine will help. I can't make her stop but I assure you... I will mourn her deeply because there is nothing I can do to help her until she decides to help herself. She doesn't want talk therapy... she just wants to forget... like that is ever going to happen...
So, why am I telling you this??? For whatever reason you are taking one/ plus drinks plus ambien or something else... you won't get the potential benefit from the med. Alcohol isn't a good combination... though there are many combinations of meds that can be tried to get that deep rem sleep that we all need.
What does your doctor think will help you??? I was taken off ambien after being observed sleep walking and going to get coffee in the middle of the night. The problem was no one I know observed me... the evidence was found at my bedside. Not a good feeling, I assure you. So my psych doctor took me off... I have been on quite a few different sleep aids but Ativan has consistently worked the best without ever having to up the dose. I take 1mg at night.

Certain drugs and alcohol shouldn't be mixed. I don't believe with many drugs that they check all the possible issues u may obtain while mixing the two. All of them just say alcohol may enhance the effect. We don't know to what extent.
I drink with my meds ever so often it creates a calming feeling almost euphoric. Which is nice, but what is it actually effecting.I can drink liquor but not beer. Beer gives me a hangover off of one.

I recently had some success scaling back ( down) on Ambien and it got it down to one and a half pills( 15 mg). I can't explain how I did it other than the same will power (and "willingness to change" for those who wordsmith or object to willpower as a bad word) as before. Really quite extraordinary how I was able to reduce from a much higher dose. Clearly I want to take as little as possible. I don't like getting high and I never used drugs recreationally. I love the clarity of mind that comes with a sober, focused mind. That is why I "loved" Ambien; it allowed me for most of the working day to be clear and rested and I stopped fretting over whether I was going to get a good night's sleep. With Ambien I could "bank" on a good night's sleep.
Regrettably the "interest' is now coming due ( and has for a while) and that is what I - and many of us- are presently grappling with. The solution has become its own problem. We all know that.
I'm back taking more than 15 mg- again. I don't know why but even just writing this post encourages me to make a concerted effort to back down again.
Re; alcohol, truth be told I don't think I've drunk enough in my lifetime. That of course is a completely different issue than mixing alcohol and Ambien. Recently I tried adding a drink - to my early evening- I've been boating-and it comes with the territory. It does manage to ease some of the stress out of a challenging day and it provides a certain reward for one's sweat. Again that is not the issue. Whether I deserve a drink at the end of the day is frankly a luxury that we who are taking Ambien have to be very watchful and cautious about. We're not ordinary folks. Mixing it with alcohol does seem to make my night time food eating more unpredictable than without alcohol. That is true for late night drinking. Whether a drink or two in the early evening potentates or exacerbates the Ambien that follows several hours later I cannot say. I think the effects of the drinking have worn off by then but who knows? Its hard to count potato chips. If I had that clarity of mind I suspect I could even more sharply reduce my Ambien use.

When ambian became ineffective for me, I too found myself using more. Even with the increased dose, I still wasn't falling asleep quickly. 2 years ago, a doctor suggested seroquel. It is actually prescribed an an anti- psychotic Med but has amazing sedative qualities. Now, I only take less then 5 mg ambian & I break the 50 mg seroquel into 3rds -1 seroquel will last 3 nights & often 1 10 mg ambian will last 3 nights when I take the 2 meds together. Beautiful, restful sleep every single night!! Hope this helps you as it has me. Good luck!!
