My doctor gave me a med that is labeled "amphet mixed" on the label. The pill looks exactly like the adderall xr 30mg capsule but instead says "M. Amphet Salts; 30 mg" on it. Trying to find out if this is the generic of adderall xr or just adderall or something completely different.

I have always been written a prescription for Name-Brand Adderall, but when I fill it at the pharmacy they always give me generic. Fast-acting generic-brand medication reads on the bottle “Amphetamine Salts 5 mg tablet” and are light blue round tablets imprinted with “U25” on the front and all dosage amounts will have grooves either down the middle or a plus-shape in the center, intended for splitting into lesser doses as needed. This is a generic-brand and the bottle’s description reads “Common brands are Adderall”.
I find this fast-acting version has the most noticeable effect.
I am also prescribed the “XR” (extended release) which are made for higher doses at one time, to be slowly dissolved into your system over a period of 12-24 hours and are often white and orange oblong capsules imprinted with “P 844”. This is a generic-brand and the bottle’s description reads “Dextroamp-Amphet ER 30 mg cap” - as well as a note of “common brands are Adderall XR, Mydayis”.
Did you search for the medication on Drugs.com ? If not then you should try it and you will get a lot of information about that pill.
Yes, you are right.
The label for Generic Adderall might read as: *Dextroamphetamine-amphetamine combination.
*Amphetamine salts combo.
*Amphetamine-dextroamphetamine.
All of them are the same ingredients.
The only thing that might change is: IR which stands for instant release and XR or ER which stands for extended release.
I personally have used both, original and generic and both of them are very good.
The one you received labeled mixed amphetamine salts is generic sorry to let you know that... The brand name is (Adderall XR) and is a orange pill that in black says Adderall XR and generics can name brand can differ dramatically and often do they have to only be 70% similar to the brand name which is criminal in my opinion
By law the generic medication and the breand name medication have to have the same active ingredients, the inactive ingredients are able to be changed which can than change the affect of the compound in the body.
Adderall XR and all the generic forms of Adderall are certainly not the same. Someone answered that there was a generic form of the XR (extended release). I was unaware of this. I have ADD and took Adderall XR for several years. Then I was informed that no insurance company in my area would cover it. My doctor and I tried for months, along with the pharmacy and were absolutely turned down. The generic works somewhat. It makes me irritable and I have outbursts if the dosage is too high or low. That can also happen with the brand name, but it isn't so extreme. It has far less side effects, and the benefits noticeably improve my thinking and abilities to stay on task. My mother had the same experience. I have talked to others with similar effects.
The generic is not AB rated by the FDA therefore it can not be sub. , the MD must right for MAS. or Adderal XR , we at the pharmacy can not sub them by law!
I just got my Adderall xr 20mg prescription filled and the label says "AMPHETAMINE SALTS ER 20MG CAP". I was there when the prescription was dropped off and there was no talk of getting generics. My mom picked up the pills and assured me that there was no discussion about getting generics. I wondered because I have always been skeptical of generic medications. So I am fairly certain that the meds I got were the regular name brand form of Adderall and not the generic kind. Either the pills are just labelled differently or maybe this particular pharmacy has the pills labelled that way. Adderall is a mixture of amphetamine salts so what you have is probably the name brand Adderall, and you are in the same situation as me. Or you have the generic form of Adderall, but it would not be something entirely different if it looks the same and is labeled as amphetamine salts.
Also, from what I here, most generic meds are the exact same chemical formula just with a different label on the pill. In the case of Adderall, the generic form is even produced exactly the same by the same drug company just labelled differently, but pharmacies and insurance companies treat generics differently. Hope this helped.
I think that this IS the generic version of Adderall, which I have taken BTW.
Adderall is "mixed amphetamine salts" which is a mixture of two types of amphetamines. Adderall (Dextroamphetamine and Amphetamine)
However, my concern is that there is no XR on your label. If the medication is not XR or SR it does not release slowly into the bloodstream and is not "extended" release or "sustained" release.
I would call my pharmacy to make sure that the pills you have are not just generic adderall that hits your system fast and leaves it fast, causing some ups and downs and requiring (usually) several doses a day. .
According to my son's physician, there is no such thing as generic form of extended release Adderall. There is generic Adderall but not in the extended release form.
Well Dawn, that's good for you and your son that she thinks it doesn't exist, as for most folks the name-brand is more effective than the generic. But if you and your son want to try the generic, then your doctor needs to update herself on XR...
Generic Adderall XR in the US | ADD ADHD Blog.com
As of April 3, 2009, generic Adderall XR is available in the United States. It is being made by Teva Pharmaceuticals.
I take Adderall XR 30mg, and there IS a generic brand, which I had to get this month. It's labeled as "Amphetamine Salts".
The name brand Adderall XR in the 30 mg. dose comes in a capsule, half of which is clear, the other half a light orange color with "Adderall XR 30 mg" printed in black. I take this for my ADD.
What you describe has got to be the generic version. I also take a short-acting generic form of Adderall, which is always labeled "mixed amphetamine salts" (often shortened to: "MAS" in clinical literature). In your case, they've abbreviated it to: "M. Amphet Salts."
If you've used the brand name XR, take care to notice if there is any difference in effectiveness between the two (generic and real mc'coy. Sometimes the generic isn't as effective... if so, try the same med made by a different generic manufacturer before making a case to use only the brand-name variety.
i wasn't taking anything for about three weeks, then got the generic. i've noticed a difference but it is not the same as how i felt when on the adderall xr. i don't know what company makes the generic i have. i'll look into that. thank you for you response.
rookiellh: fyi... about 6 mos. after the generic Adderall XR had been out, my doc wrote me a script for the generic. After dropping it off at the pharmacy, I got a call from the pharmacist letting me know that my insurance company (Anthem BC/BS) refused to cover the generic XR and only covered the name-brand. Now how's about them apples!! I can only guess that the insurance company adopted this policy because it was getting so many complaints about the generic.
my insurance won't pay for the adderall xr. and they are very picky about what they will pay for. if you go through a "step therapy" the insurance calls it. basically they have a list of meds they think you should try first and if those don't work then they may pay for what was working in the first place. so far i've had one that made me very irriatable and snappy. one that i was allergic to and broke out in hives. and now this one that i'm on. it sucks when you take something that is working and then your insurance changes and they decided that they aren't going to pay for it.
interesting tidbit out of Wikipedia's info on Adderall, which I assume is current and explains why (some) insurance companies still cover costs for the XR form.
"... Generic forms
Both Adderall and Adderall XR have generic preparations available for dispensing.[20][21][22] The FDA has not given the generic form of Adderall XR an AB rating. It has not been shown to be bioequivalent in vitro or in vivo... "
Hi, I agree that you should really take notice if there is a difference for you between the generic and brand name. I had the opposite problem as some of these guys. I found that the generic works better for me (which is what you must have). My bottle calls it 'Amphetamine Salts ER' which is generic for Adderall XR. On the capsule (which half is clear/half is orange) it says 'M. Amphet Salts' on the orange half and has the '30mg' marked on the clear half. Not only did I think the effectiveness was better but my insurance company only covers the generic unless the doctor submits documentation as to what is my medical need for the brand name over the generic? When I first started taking the medication, he had me specifically getting brand then he screwed up the script and gave me generic, I noticed a big difference and asked him to continue to do so, I liked it better. All of these things pretty much always have different effects on everyone differently in some way, just pay close attention to your body and find out what works best for you.
Has anyone experienced hair loss with Adderall XR?
Generic Adderall manufactured by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Ltd., Eon Labs & Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals, because the actual name for generic Adderall is very long ("dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine aspartate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, and amphetamine sulfate"), the generic name will usually be shortened to fit on your prescription label. Generic Adderall is available in the following strengths:
Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine 5 mg tablets
Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine 7.5 mg tablets
Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine 10 mg tablets
Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine 12.5 mg tablets
Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine 15 mg tablets
Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine 20 mg tablets
Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine 30 mg tablets.
It is recommended to seek clarifications from your pharmacist, hope the info helps?
Even the generic version of adderall my sons capsule says simply adderallxr and nothing more. It sounds like a compounded version of adderall and what i mean by this is it has the medication adderall mixed with the salts of some kind. The generic and non-generic version of adderall always simply says adderallxr so you are not getting the full benefit in my opinion of it cause it is mixed with something else. I do believe it is adderall but not just adderall.
Actually you will find that the non generic has exactly the same ingredients as the non generic... They are identical in chemical makeup.
Aderrall XR or ER and the generic Ampheta Salts ER are exatly the same medicine. Both containe a combination of 4 different ampheta and methyl aphetamines.
