"Have been on 10mg Citolopram for a year now. Was prescribed it by my Doctor after I'd had 3 months of interrupted sleep due to nightly hot flushes accompanied with overwhelming anxiety at the same time. The first few days on it were weird, felt out of it, nauseous but so glad I persevered because I rarely have a hot flush now and sleep like a baby!! The anxiety disappeared overnight as well."

"Have been taking citalopram 10mg daily for disruptive hot flushes for 4 months. Still have hot episodes but they are not disruptive and I sleep through the night every night. Before taking citalopram I had been waking up drenched. No noticeable side effects. Very happy."

"I menopausal with bad Anxiety in mornings, with shakes, hot flashes and depression. I started on the Generic Celexa 10mg first seven days at night, which helped me sleep, dry mouth and diarrhea, then took 20mg and on day three on that, anxiety gone, think clearly, depression lifted, energy again and no more hot flashes. No constant worry some thoughts that ruled my brain. I won't come off this again."

"I have been taking citalopram HBR 10 mg for about a year. I have had more restfull nights than I have had in many years. Hot flashes have been reduced by 90 percent, none at night!! My anxiety is gone most of the time. So far so good. I don't know what long term use will do to my organs. I haven't found a lot of information on long term use. Over all very happy with this medication!!"

"Got prescribed citalopram for menopausal hot flushing and related anxiety. 2 days in, had most intense heat and drenched in sweat, skin was red, pins and needles down left arm. Frightening experience, I won't take a third pill."

"I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in 2015 and because my cancer was hormone positive, I was forced into menopause. The hot flashes were so intense I would throw up, and then I learned that some women have them for more than 10 years. My cancer treatment nurse told me there are some antidepressants that mess with the thermal receptors in the brain and stop hot flashes, so after two years of not being able to sleep and having several hot flashes every hour during daytime hours, I did some research and asked my doctor for citalopram... he also prescribed me gabapentin for night flashes. By my fourth day taking citalopram my hot flashes stopped and I had no need to take the gabapentin because it also put an end to my night sweats. However, after about 6 months I noticed it stopped working so I upped my dose to 40 mg and it has worked wonders since. This is a miracle for Peri and Post menopausal women who cannot take hormones."

"This is my first time taking an antidepressant and was prescribed citalopram for hot flashes .I have been taking 20mg for a month now and it has worked 95% reducing my hot flashes. Also I had every side effect nausea, headache, loss of appetite and tremors but after 2 weeks the side effects disappeared now have no side effects. I highly recommend this medication but it takes 4 to 8 weeks to really work effectively .Give it time!"

"Sweating that I could not stand clothes on. No sleep. Hallucinations B/P way over 250/ 135 crazy was hospitalized and test run doctors are stumped , I read on the drug but was not enough information as this has given me. not taking it tomorrow. and seeing my Cardiologist on Thurs. They did not prescribe it my GP did ,as I had lost my beloved husband of 57 /1/2 years and my children all are out of town,and have all new and busy neighbors, was put on Lexapro a couple of weeks before my husband passed away and had no problems."

"I’m 48, peri menopausal and was waking up every half hour at night with hot flashes and having a number of intense ones throughout the day. My obgyn recommended celexa. I started with 10mg for about a week and then went to 20mg. The night time hot flashes stopped almost immediately and I started having great quality sleep and then after about 4 weeks the day time hot flashes stopped completely! I had some headaches and a little bit of dizziness when I started but nothing bad and it didn’t last long at all. Great option for me, particularly since I can’t use hormone based treatments bc of family history."

"I opted to use citalopram instead of estrogen medication because I am considered at moderate risk of breast cancer due to family history. I was skeptical at first, but I'm glad to say it worked for me. It has improved my ability to focus, reduced my anxiety and irritation, and maybe most importantly for this group, it has definitely reduced the frequency and severity of my hot flushes. It hasn't completely eliminated them, but I don't have them very often, and when I do, they are easily managed. I take 20mg a day. I haven't taken them for nearly 3 weeks now (I didn't make time to pick up a prescription), and my menopause symptoms have returned, especially the hot flushes. Now I remember how debilitating they can be."

"Prescribed 20mg for hot flushes. Took for 5 days as side effects were terrible - nausea, dry mouth and by third day feeling low in mood and apethetic. My vertigo has also returned with a vengeance!!"
