Flagyl (metronidazole) for Diverticulitis "Day 3 on Flagyl and Cipro. I thought I was having a heart attack. This stuff has horrid side effects. Discomfort in my chest and arm. Foggy headed feeling, dizziness, unbalanced, headache, very nauseous, metal taste, very blurry eyesight. No energy, at 55 it is not a good thing to feel this way, especially when you are overweight and out of shape. This is only day 3 I don't think I can take this stuff for 7 more days. They say the IV kind is worse though. Supposedly it's helping (I do feel less pain in my abdomen I think). IF I make it through this stuff I bet I will watch what I eat and make better choices in the future. I called the pharmacy and the doc and both said to stay on it, cipro 2X daily and flagyl 4X daily. Scary stuff."

Flagyl (metronidazole) for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I can't believe the complaints on here for a antibiotic that is going to heal your infection. I am on Tetracycline, Flagyl, Bismuth and Lansaprazole, I hope you all feel better. Drink lots of water and eat before you take this antibiotic. Love and Light"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "The bad reviews & side effects scared me. I don't need more toilet/cry time. So I did this to have 0 loose stools & barely lowered mood: -Set up your phone alarm so you don't miss a dose. -Dose at equal times apart. Your body will benefits from consistent levels of antibiotics (AB). If you dose early, you get more side effects. If you dose late, bacteria can grow back. Example: For 2 doses per day, dose 24÷(2)=12 hours apart. -Take probiotics (PB) between your AB. AB kill both good & bad bacteria. Without good bacteria, your mood worsens (look up "mood gut"). PB restores a healthy gut. I took AB twice a day; this was my alarm clock schedule: 10am-AB 4pm-PB 10pm-AB 4am-PB (I'd wake up, eat a bit, dose, then back to sleep.) -Take all your AB. Follow these tips to get less side effects. Take all your AB to save humanity from AB-resistant bacteria! -Eat some food before you take either AB or PB, to avoid upset stomach from AB & to get more benefits from the PB."

Flagyl (metronidazole) for Diverticulitis "I cringe when I think about having to take cipro and flagyl. I'm nauseous, dizzy, light headed, ache, and foggy headed. Can't function and sleep all the time. I miss a weeks worth of work because I feel so bad."

For Dental Abscess "Wish I had read up on this medication before taking it. Was prescribed 15 metronidazole tablets for a dental abscess and have taken 5. i have had horrendous side effects, totally unexpected as I have taken many courses of antibiotics over the years. Nausea ++ , bad headaches, muscle weakness all over, feeling overwhelmed and low confused mood... after 5 tablets! Feel like I’ve been poisoned or something. Beware is all I can say."

For Diverticulitis "This is my second flare up with diverticulitis since March of 2020. My own fault due to my bad choice in foods. This combination of flagyl and cipro make my stomach ache, urine is dark and foul smelling, my stomach pulses, headache is mild, joints hurt, nausea, dizzy first 3 days. It is very stressful on your body. My diverticulitis is better but the side effects of the treatments take a toll on your body. I find too if I stick to taking a good probiotic with slippery elm and drink daily a full glass with a teaspoon of psyllium husk mixed in I do not have any issues. But if I backside and slack off performing this daily regimen then I flare up. Pizza, especially pepperoni is a BIG NO-NO"

Flagyl (metronidazole) for Bacterial Infection "I went into the hospital on Saturday with extreme stomach pain and constipation. CT scan and blood work showed colitis with bacterial infection. Prescribed 500mg Flagyl 3x day and 500mg Cipro 2x a day. I've taken Cipro before but had never heard of Flagyl. I made the mistake of reading reading reviews and became panicked. But most people don't leave reviews when things are good. I'm on day 3, but things are ok. I HAVE to take it with milk. Keeps the nausea and metallic taste to a minimum. I have mild stomach upset (but nothing compared to before) and a headache. It's not pleasant but I'm almost halfway through. My suggestion is to eat and drink different things. I also found spacing out the Flagyl and Cipro helped with nausea as well. The medicine seems to be working. And the side effects have been bearable so far. Take each review with a grain of salt and remember- every body is different and will respond to things differently."

Flagyl (metronidazole) for Diverticulitis "Having nausea everyday about 3 hours after taking Flagyl, also started feeling cramps in both calves on day 3. Only have 1 1/2 days left! Will be taking probiotics and eating yogurt as was suggested by someone in this comment stream!"

For Dental Abscess "Like a previous reviewer, I was given metronidazole (3 x 200mg daily) for a tooth abscess after amoxycillin failed to clear the infection. Within 48 hours, as well as easing pain from the abscess, my Chronic Fatigue symptoms almost totally disappeared! After 7 years of believing that there was no hope of treatment I felt I had been given my life back again! Keen to investigate this further, my husband stumbled on the review by baroness 140, on 23 Feb 2014. We were stunned by the similarities. I received14 days treatment with metronidazole to allow for extraction of the tooth. I wait to see if the reprieve from CFS will continue."

Flagyl (metronidazole) for Diverticulitis "Seems effective. Second use with diverticulitis. Both times combined with Cipro. Had some side effects but not sure which medication they came from. Plus the diverticulitis itself causes gas, bloating, diarrhea, headache, nausea so how do you know what was meds and what was the illness? I experienced urine discoloration-slight rusty tone. I can say that the taste of the Flagyl pill is horrible. Also, after starting the meds I became over sensitive to smells and everything I ate or drank, even water, tasted disgusting. (Not so bad as I'm not supposed to be eating foods). I found that if I swallow the Flagyl with a sip of a smoothie (from supermarket) it slips down easy with no sticking and no bad taste."

Flagyl (metronidazole) for Diverticulitis "Had my first flare with diverticulitis 4 months ago, ended up in the emergency room. Prescribed Bactrim and Flagyl and four days bed rest. Pain subsided after 2 days on the meds, but felt pretty crummy for the next week, and had to deal with loss of taste and bad taste in my mouth. Didn't attribute feeling so yucky with the meds. Had a second milder diverticulitis flare up four days ago. Went to the doc 2 days ago and I'm back on Bactrim and Flagyl. Came back to work today and I am SO NAUSEOUS! The bad taste in my mouth has returned, and I really don't feel well at all. I really DO NOT want to end up where I was last Jan when I went to the emergency room - so I'm still taking the Flagyl. Doc gave me Zofran for the nausea, it helps some."

For Trichomoniasis "I was prescribed the 500mg 2 times a day for 7 days. The pill didn’t even taste that bad lol The only side effect I had was dark urine and diarrhea and that was on day 3 and 4. I’m approaching my 7th day with my last pill. So far it’s been good. I do want to warn you that might have discharge. It’s not always a yeast infection, it’s the medicine pushing the infection out."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I want to share my story because when I was prescribed this, then after seeing all the reviews I was very scared. I'm here to tell you that there is a really good chance that you will not have any of those effects if you take it like you are supposed to. First, some people advised to take it with orange juice which I researched and is a no-no. Also try to not eat too much fiber during the time you are taking antibiotics, I searched and fiber takes away some of the potency. Take it with plain water and eat some lettuce leaves with it. I got bad after taste which was not that bad only once when I laid down on my right side at night. If you lay on the left side, and you should have not problem. I am H Pylori free and I plan on staying that way, I changed my whole diet, and lost 10 lbs and feel Great."

For Trichomoniasis "I was prescribed the one time dose of four (4) 500mg tablets. Within HOURS I noticed the horrible odor & discarge were totally gone!! I had been skeptical it would work well with just one dose but it's truly AMAZING!! I didn't have any of the (I personally think exaggerated) side effects some of these other reviews listed. I even took it on a completely empty stomach at the end of the day. No problems with the taste either as I take them differently than most people. I put water in my mouth, hold the water in my mouth without swallowing, tilt my head back (still not swallowing), drop the pills the back my throat & then swallow. I take many pills each day for various reasons & I've never tasted ANY pills that way."

For Diverticulitis "I did a google search for being on Cipro and Flagyl for diverticulitis for a few days because I was thinking there has to be a reason why these meds make me feel so bad and there has to be someone else who has shared this same Horrible experience! And then I read all of your reviews and as awful as these meds are they do actually help to make the pain go away and it's nice to know I'm not suffering alone! :)"

For Trichomoniasis "Update: Flagyl is rough to take but it does the job for trich. Previously I would never take flagyl because of side effects but I had to tough it out because it's one of the few used to treat it and options were minimal. One dose option did not cure me on two separate occasions. The 2 -500 mg twice a day for 7 days did the trick. Lol Don't miss a dose and finish all pills WITH FOOD to help with side effects. It will work if taken correctly and don't read the bad reviews."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I sympathize with those who had to prolong their treatment in the course of 5 days, I on the other hand and thankfully at that was prescribed only a single dose of 5 tablets of Metronidazole. Quick and easy. Make sure you eat before you take it though and I find if you hydrate yourself you less likely to feel nauseous. I've had recurrent bacterial vaginitis so I know what I'm talking about."

Flagyl (metronidazole) for Diverticulitis "I have taken this for Diverticulitis and BV. It works. Had bleeding and severe almost septic Diverticulitis, was in hospital for 5 days and this cured it. Gets rid of BV too, just make sure to take Rephresh Pro-B pill immediately after finishing course of flagl and continue for a few months if you want to keep vagina healthy. Side affects of flagyl are diarrhea and slight nausea but bearable, just take it in the middle of meal. If you have horrible affects from it you are having allergic reaction, not side affects. I know bc my mom is allergic to flagyl. If taking for diverticulitus, take high grade probiotic for 2 months after finishing course of antibiotics to replenish good bacteria in gut."

For Dental Abscess "I've been taking Metronidazole (400mg) for two days now once every 8 hours. I can assure you it does and will help a lot if you are suffering from a dental abscess. After my 4th dose I feel no pain what so ever and the abscess is starting to feel really soft when before it seems like it was about to burst at any moment. I'm also taking Amoxicillin (500mg) and I've had no side effects with these antibiotics but I do recommend taking the Metronidazole tablets after eating."

Noticed a change in discharge and odor the next day. HOWEVER it's been a week and I've noticed odor again and I'm experiencing hip and lower back pain. I have not been sexually active not sure what's going on!"

Flagyl (metronidazole) for Bacterial Infection "I have SIBO and my doctor prescribed Flagyl 250 MG 3 times/day for 14 days and Rifaximin 3 times/day for 14 days to treat SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). Overall, my experience with Flagyl was unpleasant -- I experienced moderate side effects that made me feel worse, so I stopped after 4 days and kept on the Rifaximin with no problems. On flagyl, I experienced fatigue -- when I tried to workout to boost energy, I felt horrendous -- nauseous with flu-like symptoms. I experienced loss of appetite for normal healthy foods and found that I was binging on unhealthy foods. Slight metallic taste in my mouth, and a moderate feeling of upset stomach that came and went. Also, moderate bloating. If I had been extremely sick, and Flagyl made me feel better, I may have kept on it, but for someone with mild SIBO, this drug wasn't worth it. If you're only mildly ill, I'd suggest finding an alternative medicine, if possible."

Flagyl (metronidazole) for Bacterial Infection "Bread is the key. I've taken metronidazole 500mg 2 times a day for 7 days. This is my 9th set of themm seeing that I'm prone to BV. Every time I get them I get nauseous, sick headaches, stomach pains, weak and the taste is the worst thing in life. It always hits my tongue or back of throat. I never finsu a bottle I always leave about 3-4 pills because I can never finish and the symptoms clear after about 3 days. Well after my last visit that is why it always comes back you have to take the whole dosage. But it was such a hard pill I never could. Well this time I learned to wrap them in BREAD. Problem solver!!! I wrap it around bread, and just swollow it . its like u never took a pill :) no taste and no headaches no nasuea and I even take it without food sometimes. No symptoms what so ever ! This is a big help in my life. Because ive dealt with this for a year and a half back to back because I have a very sensitive body! Now if I ever need to take them everything is perfectly fine :) I recommend doing that , because I believe the taste is what causes the symptoms.....at least for me . -Kyri"

For Diverticulitis "I was recently prescribed both Metronidazole and Cipro for diverticulitis---this is the second time I've had an issue with diverticulitis since being diagnosed approximately 2 years ago. I have learned a few things this time around that has reduced the negative side effects. I no longer take these medications at the same time---they are spaced an hour or two apart and both are taken with a slice of toast--nothing more. If I take this medication after a meal, it causes problems. This has greatly reduced (eliminated) the stomach pains and nausea that I experienced before. Limit food intake while having a diverticulitis attack for the first couple of days--replace with water. You need to flush out the infection and there will be diarrhea."

Flagyl (metronidazole) for Bacterial Infection "I'm on day 6 of a 7 day treatment, and I'm throwing in the towel. I've never had such terrible side effects. Severe dizziness, insomnia, dehydration, irritated bladder, racing heart, anxiety, constant bad taste in mouth. I barely had any BV symptoms to begin with, so the meds have felt like unnecessary torture. Never again."
