"I completed my 7 days. The first day I did get a fast heartbeat but maybe it was my anxiety, so when that happen I just lay down and relaxed and let it pass. But after that the rest of the 6 days I just had nausea/upset tummy but besides that everything was good. I was worried I wasn't gonna get my period but after the treatment I got my period on time, so don't worry the treatment doesn't mess up period schedule."

"Ouchhhh. I was prescribed this for BV I put the gel in and immediately had cramping similar to a period and a little burning. After the second night I woke up and the outside of my vagina was raw and it itched. It gave me a yeast infection. I stopped using it. I refuse to use this ever again. Seems like it made it worse."

"Light yellow/light green discharge. Urine NEG for UTI. Trich, Chlamydia, & Gonnorhea -. NEG. Yeast candida - NEG. Gardernella - (BV) POSITIVE. 5 days, insert gel @ night SIDE EFFECTS DAYS: 2 - Stuffy nose, sore throat, headache 3 - Same as day two 4 - Runny nose, congestion, slight sore throat & headache upon awakening 5 - Congestion, no headache No odor during the infection, only discharge. Always take a vaginal probiotic, maybe that helped combat any odor. Had a couple of White Claws each night with ZERO SIDE EFFECTS. No sex until medicine is done & there is no discharge. I believe it's due to unprotected sex, NO ejaculation. pH still becomes unbalanced. No BV issues if I'm not having sex. Also, just bought Balance Active BV treatment gel for the future. 1st time using & all reviews were extremely positive. Don't think the Scientists work hard enough on a permanent be solution. But, at least there are temporary fixes for now I suppose."

"Have BV Gardnerella and used the gel for 3 nights out of 5 day prescription. Today I am experiencing extreme breast pain on both sides. Previous nights it caused pelvic pain briefly after application. I will not complete the dosage with this much pain. It did eliminate the odor. I have not been diagnosed with BV in previous years and hope it will not cause yeast infection."

"My doctor said I have BV (bacterial vaginitis) she put me on the metronidazole pills the next morning I had a bad chest pain that she doesn't think was caused by the pill but she changed it to the gel and I still have the pain and she's still saying it has nothing to do with each other."

"I wanted to share my experiences using MetroGel for BV. I’ve had several BV cases in the last year and my doctor always prescribed metronidazole vaginal route for 5 days. Each time I take this medication I became deeply depressed and anxious during the entire course of treatment as well as physically sick. Once I finish the treatment I start feeling myself again about 2 weeks later, there has also been a few times where the treatment was unsuccessful and I had to be retreated a few weeks later. So I do not recommend. Ask for an alternative medication for BV such as clindomycin."

"I went to the gynecologist for a Pap smear and was told I had BV. I was prescribed Diflucan and Metrogel once daily for 5 days at bedtime. I would say I started to feel better within 2 days of use—itching and abdominal discomfort went away. Today, on the third day, I started to notice clumpy white discharge. Reading other reviews, this is the body flushing out the infection so I really don’t mind it. If you’re used to to using tampons, this will be very easy to apply as the applicator is basically like a longer, skinnier tampon applicator. It’s hard to say whether or not it has caused side effects because I am also currently sick. I will say I’ve had a consistent but not unbearable headache since beginning treatment but, again, this could be due to other factors. All in all, I’ve had a positive experience and hope to keep this at bay once I finish the 5 day course."

"So I’ve been using the gel for 5 days now and the only issue I’m having is the thick white discharge. At first I had no idea the the clumpy discharge was an side effect. After doing research it helped ease my mind. I’m hoping to be all cleared up soon. I’ve been battling BV for years and it’s embarrassing and I don’t like it at all."

"I took one dose nightly for five days, I’ve also been taking a vaginal probiotic. On day 3, I experienced the most horrible anxiety I’ve ever felt. I was SO anxious. All five nights I had insomnia. I was sweating like crazy the whole five days, SOAKING through shirts, again this could be due to increased anxiety? Other than anxiety, no sleep, and lots of sweat, I had the usual clumpy discharge. It is four days post treatment and I feel normal. Finally started sleeping normally two days post treatment and I am no longer sweating or anxious. I am still experiencing clumps of discharge only when I use the bathroom, no more discharge otherwise!!! This is my second treatment in one year, almost to the date. My BV did come back when I started having unprotected sex with someone I now deem to not be the most hygienic, this was 8 months later. Ladies a lot of research points to high saturated fat diets. I have since cut out cheese and dairy and limit my sugar."

"I was a bit scared of using this gel at first as I read the reviews first. I went to a clinic for an STD check which came back I had BV. The lady gave me a little chat and handed me a box called zidoval. The first night I used it it interacted with my bipolar medication and made me feel unwell. Fast pounding heart beat, nausea, dizziness. Then the next 4 nights I used it without and felt fine. I ate before using it which made a difference. As far as the BV symptoms no discharge no smell after 2nd night. Tonights my last night using it and I feel okay at the moment"

"I get recurring BV and yeast. I use Metro gel for BV and that gives me yeast EVERY time. It takes months to treat my yeast infection because I don’t respond well to any yeast meds. It’s a nightmare. BV, yeast, BV, yeast for years. I am fit and healthy otherwise. It’s just miserable living like this. The gel sucks."

"I have been experiencing BV on and off for about the last 5 years…. Flaygl (the pill) works almost immediately however, it makes me feel sick to my stomach!!! My doctor prescribed the Metronidazole gel this time around and an antibiotic Doxycycline I am experiencing a thick white cottage cheese discharge which I have never had but reading everyone’s post it seems normal…. I guess it is pushing out the bacteria"

"I was also scared to take this medicine. I try not to take antibiotics unless I really, really need them. I tried natural remedies like turmeric and boric acid first, but they didn’t cut it. I had a bad case of BV. I was in a lot of pain and had burning when I peed. I thought it was a UTI, but when I had a vagina swab, they said it was BV. I finally gave in and used the gel, and I am so happy I did. When I first used it, I had really bad burning in my vagina and vulva. It was quite difficult to work, but I persevered. It felt like a painful UTI. Now finally on day 5, it seems to be really clearing up. The pain is almost gone! I have a lot of clumpy white discharge mixed in with remnants of the gel. I wish they had told me about this, but apparently it is quite normal. There aren’t a lot of pics of vaginal discharge on Google, and there should be so we can all communicate this as normal when the doctors don’t tell us what to expect. If you are prescribed this gel, please use it. It works."

"Was diagnosed with BV early 2023, I had weird smells and just felt off down there. After all my tests came back negative, my GP believed it was BV. I tried the gel every night before bed for 5 days and, wow, cleared up and I was back to normal! No side effects and felt like me again! I’ve had to treat it a couple of times since (triggered from sex but also out of nowhere) but this time round, have had the similar white clumpy discharge coming out (didn’t get that the first couple of times) that others have mentioned. Haven’t tried the oral tablet just gel and honestly wouldn’t change. The gel gets the job done and restores the balance in a quick and direct way!"

"I am over 25 and never had bv before. I was assured it’s not sexually transmitted and honestly I think I got it by using a soap to close to my vagina which affected the good bacteria leaving the bad bacteria to over populate. I made the “mistake” of reading reviews of both the pill and the gel before starting treatment. I was terrified. How could something that seems to be so simple of an issue that so many women experience, be treated with medication that causes so many horrible side effects !? - within minutes of use I didn’t feel right. My lower abdomen was hurting, like cramps. This, along with the many negative reviews I read caused me to have a panic attack. My mouth got dry, my tongue felt enlarged and my entire body was shaking from what I think was the panic attack. I showered to try and wash it out and after an hour I finally could calm down enough to sleep. Won’t be using a 2nd dose doesn’t seem worth it. Smell gone 1 use"

"First time taking this. Worked after day one. The only thing I was concerned about was that I had a discharge that I couldn't explain. White clumpy stuff with some blood in it. But after reading reviews, it seems normal. Some pelvic discomfort and back pain. Overall, liked it better than Flagyl."

"First time ever using the gel in my entire 48 years. And I am one that gets BV at the slightest change. But I was recently told by my doctor that some women are 'allergic' to certain men's semen! Who would have thunk lol just thought I'd post that and maybe it will help some to better understand why they get recurring BV"

"Metrogel is amazing - it works right away! Insert every night before bed for 5 days. When I have unprotected sex, semen throws off my pH balance. It's so annoying. The only negative about the medication is having white clumps, which is the infection cleaning out. You will see it days to a week after using the gel. The waiting to have sex again thing is super annoying as well. Also, you have to worry about it all over again if you don't use protection or have a partner pull out. Semen tends to throw off our ladies' pH balance often. I can't stand it! I wish there was a way to keep it balanced without using medication often, but yes, Metrogel will take care of it right away. Great recommendation!"

"I'm gonna have to say a lot of these comments I disagree with! Everyone is different and reacts differently to medicines, but I've been struggling with BV for about the past year. I've had it treated with oral antibiotics 3 times, the infection came back each time, and then I switched to MetroGel. I actually cannot stand the antibiotic because it's a huge pill, and if you accidentally get a taste of it, it's about the worst taste ever. With MetroGel, my side effects clear up immediately except for clumpy white discharge, which is normal for this medicine. I would really say give the gel a try. I'm now on treatment for 6 months for recurrent BV and chose the gel."
