VetRx Small Fur Animal Remedy Indications

As an aid in treating hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, mice, rats, ferrets, chinchillas, lemmings, mink.

Effective relief from respiratory infections, colds, wheezing, snuffles. This product can help alleviate many respiratory problems common to small animals. For conditions that do not respond, the advice of a veterinarian should be sought.

For internal and external applications.

For commercially raised, domestic pets, and laboratory research animals.

Dosage and Administration

Symptoms: These conditions (colds, snuffles, pneumonia) are characterized by a change in respiration, often reflected in rate, depth, noisiness and distress. Coughing, sneezing, snorting and wheezing may also occur. Occasional symptoms are watery eyes and a pus-filled nasal discharge. Animals whose lung tissue is affected have a reduced oxygen exchange level and show “air hunger”, exaggerated breathing effort, with difficulty in drawing or expelling air.

Frequently, colds can develop into pneumonia, since it is believed the same bacteria which result in colds can move down the respiratory passages into the lungs. Signs of pneumonia are loud gasping noises and increased difficulty in breathing.

Treatment: Use VETR_x™ Remedy warm. To warm, open cap and put bottle in small pan of heated water. Shake well. Always test temperature of product before applying.

Depending upon size of animal, place one or two drops of warm VETR_x™ on each side of nostril. Apply one drop, by hand, to any scabbed area. Repeat twice daily, until symptoms disappear.

To clean, fresh water (changed daily) add eight drops per gallon. Globules may rise to the top. These contain some medication that can be helpful if consumed internally.

Note: VETR_x™ will leave an oily film on skin and fur. This will not burn skin or remove hair. It will, in fact, help destroy any mites or mite ova which may be present.

General Precautions: Respiratory infections are often contagious and can affect nearby animals.

Isolate infected animals as soon as possible. Clean all cages and hutches which sick animals have occupied. Keep animals as clean and dry as possible. Keep animals away from drafts. Change litter daily. When putting down fresh litter, you can add two drops of warm VETR_x™ to floor of cage.

Caution(s): For animal use only. Not for human consumption. Use only as directed. Keep this and all medication out of the reach of children. If symptoms persist for more than 48 hours consult a licensed veterinarian.

Discussion: General Information on Temperature Conditions: As a general rule, mice, rats, hamsters, lemmings and gerbils require some extra heat in cold weather. It is recommended that they be kept indoors or in a heated shed, with the nest temperature approximately 70°F.

Guinea pigs, chinchilla, mink and ferrets are well suited to outdoor cages and pens, as long as these quarters are weatherproofed.

General Information on Feeding: Many owners and breeders feed their animals some table scraps, and find that animals thrive. There are, however, some recommended guide lines for nutrition.

Mice and Rats: Cubed diets and pellets obtained from animal foodstuff compounders are a complete diet.

For the remainder of the small rodents, the basic ration can be mouse and rat pellets, supplemented with green vegetables, and possibly sunflower seeds. Lemmings and gerbils will probably satisfy their water need from the fresh vegetables. Hamsters should not be fed oats or similar grains which might damage the mucous membrane of their cheek pouches.

Basic diet of guinea pigs and chinchillas can consist of commercially available pellets. Guinea pig diets must be supplemented with greens or other sources of vitamin C. Roughage in the form of good quality hay is also necessary for these three species.

Ferrets and mink are carnivores, and their staple diet is usually fresh meat or fish. When feeding raw meat, care must be taken to insure the diet includes vitamins and minerals, particularly calcium.

Feeding utensils for all animals must be cleaned regularly.
