The equine plasma contains no preservatives or additives. The donor used has been found free of hemolysins against 32 of the main antigens in blood groups A, C, D, K, P, Q, U and negative for agglutinins in blood groups Aa and Qa. Donor has also tested negative for EIA, EVA, dourine, piroplasmosis, brucellosis and glanders.

INDICATION: Intravenous use in neonatal foals for treatment of failure of passive transfer.

ADMINISTRATION: The plasma should be kept frozen until required. It should be thawed using only warm water and then warmed to body temperature. Plasma can be damaged by thawing in very hot water or in microwaves. Administer directly from the bag by slow filtered intravenous infusion. Dosage is based on systemic immunoglobulin G levels of plasma recipients, verified by immunodiffusion or equivalent testing before and after administration, or based upon experience resulting from past testing in similar circumstances. Caution should be taken to avoid volume overload. Complications are very infrequent but may include mild reactions such as tachypnea and trembling. If these reactions become severe and also include sweating and excessive shaking, it is advisable to slow the rate of administration or to stop and restart in 5 - 10 minutes. If the symptoms recur or persist, discontinue administration.

Equiplas Plus Caution

This product is frozen immediately after collection and has not processed by heating or treating with Ionizing radiation and may be capable of spreading disease which is possible with the administration of any blood product.
