Naloxone/pentazocine Pregnancy and Breast Feeding Warnings

Overview
It is not known if Naloxone/Pentazocine can cause harm to the fetus. If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Naloxone/Pentazocine while you are pregnant. Naloxone/Pentazocine should be used with extreme caution in women delivering premature infants. It is not known if Naloxone/Pentazocine is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Naloxone/Pentazocine , check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
Naloxone/pentazocine Pregnancy Warnings
Naloxone-pentazocine has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Naloxone animal data have failed to reveal evidence of impaired fertility or fetotoxicity after dosages equivalent to 50 times the recommended daily human dose. Administration during human pregnancy to a woman who is opioid-dependent may precipitate withdrawal in the woman and the fetus. Pentazocine animal studies have failed to reveal evidence of teratogenic or embryotoxic effects. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy for either drug. Naloxone-pentazocine should be given during pregnancy only when need has been clearly established.
Naloxone rapidly crosses the placenta. Fetal serum levels are lower than those of the mother.
Naloxone/pentazocine Lactation Warnings
There are no data on the excretion of either naloxone or pentazocine into human milk.
