Carvedilol Pregnancy and Breast Feeding Warnings

If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Carvedilol Extended-Release Capsules while you are pregnant. It is not known if Carvedilol Extended-Release Capsules is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Carvedilol Extended-Release Capsules.

Carvedilol Pregnancy Warnings

Carvedilol has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Animal studies have revealed evidence of fetotoxicity and teratogenicity at high human doses. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Carvedilol should only be given during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.

Carvedilol Lactation Warnings

There are no data on the excretion of carvedilol into human milk. Studies in rats have shown that carvedilol crosses the placental barrier and is excreted in breast milk. The manufacturer recommends that due to the potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants, a decision should be made to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
