cefuroxime - sodium

Parenteral cefuroxime sodium contains approximately 55 mg (2.4 mEq) of sodium per each gram of cefuroxime activity. The frozen solutions of cefuroxime sodium are additionally formulated with sodium citrate hydrous as a buffer and contain approximately 110 mg (4.8 mEq) and 223 mg (9.7 mEq) of sodium in the 750 mg and 1.5 g doses, respectively. The sodium content should be considered in patients with conditions that may require sodium restriction, such as congestive heart failure, hypertension, and fluid retention.
