Drug Interactions between Propoxyphene Compound 65 and rasagiline
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- Propoxyphene Compound 65 (aspirin/caffeine/propoxyphene)
- rasagiline
Interactions between your drugs
propoxyphene rasagiline
Applies to: Propoxyphene Compound 65 (aspirin / caffeine / propoxyphene) and rasagiline
Using rasagiline together with propoxyphene is not recommended. Combining these medications can increase the risk of respiratory depression, low blood pressure, and a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Severe cases may result in coma and even death. In general, you should wait at least 14 days after stopping rasagiline before you start treatment with propoxyphene. Conversely, if you have recently been on propoxyphene and are now starting treatment with rasagiline, you should check with your doctor or pharmacist to see how long you should wait before it is safe for you to use rasagiline, as some medications can take a while to clear from your body. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
caffeine rasagiline
Applies to: Propoxyphene Compound 65 (aspirin / caffeine / propoxyphene) and rasagiline
Caffeine may increase the blood levels of rasagiline in some patients. This may increase side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, blood pressure changes, nausea, vomiting, hallucinations, and compulsive behaviors. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
aspirin caffeine
Applies to: Propoxyphene Compound 65 (aspirin / caffeine / propoxyphene) and Propoxyphene Compound 65 (aspirin / caffeine / propoxyphene)
Information for this minor interaction is available on the professional version.
Drug and food interactions
propoxyphene food
Applies to: Propoxyphene Compound 65 (aspirin / caffeine / propoxyphene)
Do not use alcohol or medications that contain alcohol while you are receiving treatment with propoxyphene. This may increase nervous system side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, difficulty concentrating, and impairment in thinking and judgment. In severe cases, low blood pressure, respiratory distress, fainting, coma, or even death may occur. Do not use more than the recommended dose of propoxyphene, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medication without first talking to your doctor.
rasagiline food
Applies to: rasagiline
Rasagiline may be taken with or without food. There is no need to avoid most foods and beverages during treatment with rasagiline, as long as you are not receiving more than 1 mg per day of the medication. However, certain foods such as some of the aged cheeses (for example, Boursault, Liederkrantz, Mycella, and Stilton) may contain very high amounts of tyramine and should generally be avoided if possible. Consumption of very high levels of tyramine (greater than 150 mg) while on rasagiline treatment may lead to dangerous increases in your blood pressure, a condition known as hypertensive crisis. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are uncertain about what foods, if any, to avoid. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience sudden and severe headache, blurred vision, confusion, seizures, chest pain, nausea or vomiting, sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), speech difficulties, fever, sweating, lightheadedness, and/or fainting during treatment with rasagiline, as these may be signs and symptoms of a hypertensive crisis. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs, since some medications may increase the blood levels of rasagiline and possibly lead to interactions with tyramine-rich foods. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
aspirin food
Applies to: Propoxyphene Compound 65 (aspirin / caffeine / propoxyphene)
Ask your doctor before using aspirin together with ethanol. Do not drink alcohol while taking aspirin. Alcohol can increase your risk of stomach bleeding caused by aspirin. Call your doctor at once if you have symptoms of bleeding in your stomach or intestines. This includes black, bloody, or tarry stools, or coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
