MONITOR: Isoniazid may increase the pharmacologic effects of benzodiazepines by decreasing clearance and increasing half-life. The mechanism is related to the inhibition of CYP450 3A4 hepatic oxidative metabolism of benzodiazepines.
MANAGEMENT: Patients on concomitant therapy should be monitored for altered benzodiazepine effects. Dosage reductions may be appropriate if patients experience prolonged or excessive CNS-depressant effects.
