Edit list (add/remove drugs)

Interactions between your drugs

Moderate

carBAMazepine posaconazole

Applies to: Epitol (carbamazepine) and posaconazole

Ask your doctor before using carBAMazepine together with posaconazole. Using these medications together may decrease the effects of posaconazole. Contact your doctor if your condition or infection worsens. If carBAMazepine is used, carBAMazepine levels should also be monitored closely following starting or stopping of posaconazole, and the carBAMazepine dosage adjusted as necessary. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Drug and food interactions

Moderate

carBAMazepine food

Applies to: Epitol (carbamazepine)

You should preferably avoid the regular consumption of grapefruits and grapefruit juice while taking carBAMazepine. This can cause carBAMazepine levels to increase. You should report signs of carBAMazepine side effects such as nausea, visual disturbances, dizziness, or muscle weakness to your doctor. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with carBAMazepine. Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of carBAMazepine such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.

Moderate

posaconazole food

Applies to: posaconazole

Food significantly increases the absorption of posaconazole from the tablet or suspension formulations. The manufacturer recommends that you take the tablet with food and the oral suspension during or immediately (within 20 minutes) after a full meal. If you cannot eat a full meal, you should take the oral suspension with a liquid nutritional supplement like Ensure or an acidic carbonated beverage like ginger ale. Do not take these medications on an empty stomach, as it may lead to inadequate blood levels and reduced effectiveness. Ask your doctor before using alcohol together with posaconazole from delayed release suspension formulations as this may cause an increase in side effects. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions on how to use the medication properly.
