This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- eliglustat
- Propoxyphene Compound 65 (aspirin/caffeine/propoxyphene)
Interactions between your drugs
propoxyphene eliglustat
Applies to: Propoxyphene Compound 65 (aspirin / caffeine / propoxyphene) and eliglustat
Before using eliglustat, you should have received a test to determine your CYP450 2D6 genotype, which lets the doctor know whether or not you can take the medication and at what dosage. Depending on your CYP450 2D6 genotype and what other medications you may be on, using eliglustat together with propoxyphene may not be recommended at all, or a dosage adjustment of eliglustat may be needed. Treatment with propoxyphene can significantly increase the blood levels of eliglustat. This may increase the risk of serious and potentially life-threatening cardiac side effects such as irregular heart rhythm, heart block, and cardiac arrest. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may already be aware of the interaction, but has determined that this is the best course of treatment for you and has taken appropriate precautions and is monitoring you closely for any potential complications. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, shortness of breath, slow heart rate, weak pulse, or heart palpitations during treatment with eliglustat. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

In severe cases, low blood pressure, respiratory distress, fainting, coma, or even death may occur. Do not use more than the recommended dose of propoxyphene, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you.
