Drug Interactions between dronedarone and Targretin
This report displays the potential drug interactions for the following 2 drugs:
- dronedarone
- Targretin (bexarotene)
Interactions between your drugs
bexarotene dronedarone
Applies to: Targretin (bexarotene) and dronedarone
Consumer information for this interaction is not currently available.
MONITOR: Coadministration with inducers of CYP450 3A4 may decrease the plasma concentrations of dronedarone, which is extensively and primarily metabolized by the isoenzyme. According to the prescribing information, administration with 600 mg once daily rifampin, a potent CYP450 3A4 inducer, decreased dronedarone systemic exposure (AUC) by 80% with no major change in the AUC of its active N-debutyl metabolite. Reduced efficacy of dronedarone may occur. The interaction has not been studied with other, less potent CYP450 3A4 inducers.
MANAGEMENT: The potential for diminished pharmacologic effects of dronedarone should be considered during coadministration with CYP450 3A4 inducers. Alternative treatments may be required if an interaction is suspected.
Drug and food interactions
dronedarone food
Applies to: dronedarone
Do not consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment with dronedarone unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Grapefruit juice can increase the blood levels of dronedarone to dangerous levels. This may increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious and potentially life-threatening, although it is a relatively rare side effect. You may be more susceptible if you have a heart condition called congenital long QT syndrome, other cardiac diseases, conduction abnormalities, or electrolyte disturbances (for example, magnesium or potassium loss due to severe or prolonged diarrhea or vomiting). Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, shortness of breath, or heart palpitations during treatment. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
bexarotene food
Applies to: Targretin (bexarotene)
Food helps with the absorption of bexarotene from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood stream. You should take each dose the same time everyday with a meal. Avoid consuming large amounts of grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment, since doing so may increase the blood levels of bexarotene. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about your medication. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Therapeutic duplication warnings
No warnings were found for your selected drugs.
Therapeutic duplication warnings are only returned when drugs within the same group exceed the recommended therapeutic duplication maximum.
