Tegretol (carbamazepine)

Interactions between your selected drugs

carbamazepine ⇔ clozapine

Applies to: Tegretol (carbamazepine) and clozapine

MONITOR: Case reports suggest that carbamazepine may decrease the pharmacologic effects of clozapine. The mechanism may be related to induction of CYP450 hepatic metabolism. It has also been reported that serum clozapine levels have increased after discontinuation of carbamazepine therapy.

MANAGEMENT: Until more information is available, monitoring of clinical response and serum clozapine levels may be useful when carbamazepine is added to or discontinued from the patient's regimen.
