Cimetidine has been reported to decrease the clearance of quetiapine by 20%. The mechanism of action is unknown. No dosage adjustment appears necessary, however, clinical monitoring for altered quetiapine effect is recommended if cimetidine is started or stopped in a patient stabilized on quetiapine. Patients should be advised to notify their physician if they experience symptoms of possible toxicity, including excessive drowsiness or sedation, fast or irregular heartbeat, dizziness, syncope, or extrapyramidal symptoms (uncontrolled movements of the tongue, mouth, or extremities).
