thyroid desiccated mixed grass pollens allergen extract

Applies to: Armour Thyroid (thyroid desiccated) and mixed grass pollens allergen extract

Using mixed grass pollens allergen extract together with thyroid desiccated may not be advisable. Immunotherapy with mixed grass pollens allergen extract can sometimes cause severe, even potentially life-threatening allergic reactions that require emergency treatment with epinephrine, and medications like thyroid desiccated can potentiate the body's response to epinephrine and significantly increase its effects on blood pressure and heart rate as well as serious and potentially fatal irregular heart rhythms. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Drug and food interactions

Moderate

thyroid desiccated food

Applies to: Armour Thyroid (thyroid desiccated)

The timing of meals relative to your oral thyroid desiccated dose can affect the absorption of the medication. Therefore, thyroid desiccated should be taken on a consistent schedule with regard to time of day and relation to meals to avoid large fluctuations in blood levels, which may alter its effects. In addition, absorption of thyroid desiccated may be decreased and/or delayed by foods such as soybean flour, cotton seed meal, walnuts, dietary fiber, calcium, calcium fortified juices and grapefruit or grapefruit juice. These foods should be avoided within several hours of dosing if possible. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

mixed grass pollens allergen extract food

Applies to: mixed grass pollens allergen extract

Consuming food or beverage during or immediately after using mixed grass pollens allergen extract may reduce the amount of allergen extract available for absorption from tissues under the tongue into the blood stream. Food or beverage should not be taken with, or for at least 5 minutes after, using mixed grass pollens allergen extract. Use of alcohol with mixed grass pollens allergen extract may increase the risk and severity of allergic reactions that can sometimes occur during treatment with mixed grass pollens allergen extract. Potentially life-threatening or fatal reactions may occur. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Stop using mixed grass pollens allergen extract, administer epinephrine, and seek immediate medical attention if signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction develop such as trouble breathing, swallowing, or speaking; throat tightness or swelling; dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting; rapid or weak heartbeat; severe stomach cramps or pain; vomiting or diarrhea; and/or severe flushing or itching. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
