Interactions between your drugs

Moderate

hydroCHLOROthiazide porfimer

Applies to: Amturnide (aliskiren / amlodipine / hydrochlorothiazide) and porfimer

Using porfimer together with hydroCHLOROthiazide may increase the risk of a photosensitivity reaction (e.G., redness, swelling, itching, burning sensation, feeling hot, and/or blisters), following exposure to sunlight or bright indoor lights such as examination, dental or operating room lamps; floodlights; halogen lights; and unshaded light bulbs at close proximity. It is recommended that hydroCHLOROthiazide be avoided for at least 30 days following therapy with porfimer, and until a test for residual photosensitivity shows no photosensitivity reaction within 24 hours. In some cases, it might be necessary to avoid photosensitizing medications for 90 days or longer, although it may not be feasible to interrupt some treatments for that long, especially if they are medically necessary. Exposing your skin to normal indoor lighting is helpful as it will help your body get rid of porfimer more quickly, so you do not need to stay inside in the dark. Check with your doctor to see if you should temporarily withhold any of your medications after taking porfimer or if you have any other questions. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Minor

hydroCHLOROthiazide amLODIPine

Applies to: Amturnide (aliskiren / amlodipine / hydrochlorothiazide) and Amturnide (aliskiren / amlodipine / hydrochlorothiazide)

Information for this minor interaction is available on the professional version.

Drug and food interactions

Moderate

aliskiren food

Applies to: Amturnide (aliskiren / amlodipine / hydrochlorothiazide)

Food can affect the absorption of aliskiren from the intestine. Therefore, you should take aliskiren at the same time each day exactly as prescribed by your doctor. You may take aliskiren with or without food, but take it the same way every time. This will help keep blood levels and effects of the medication steady. You should avoid drinking orange, apple, or grapefruit juice as much as possible during treatment with aliskiren. Studies have shown that drinking these juices regularly or within a short period before or after a dose of aliskiren can interfere with the absorption of the medication.

Moderate

hydroCHLOROthiazide food

Applies to: Amturnide (aliskiren / amlodipine / hydrochlorothiazide)

HydroCHLOROthiazide and ethanol may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate. These side effects are most likely to be seen at the beginning of treatment, following a dose increase, or when treatment is restarted after an interruption. Let your doctor know if you develop these symptoms and they do not go away after a few days or they become troublesome. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you, and use caution when getting up from a sitting or lying position. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
