Usual Adult Dose for Hypertension
Initial dose: 5 mg orally twice a day
Maintenance dose: 10 to 60 mg/day

If a satisfactory response does not occur within 3 weeks, adjust the dose by 10 mg increments every 3 to 4 weeks to a maximum of 60 mg/day.
Precautions
Poor renal function has only minor effects on pindolol clearance, but poor hepatic function may cause blood levels of pindolol to increase substantially.
Safety and effectiveness have not been established in pediatric patients (less than 18 years of age).

The antihypertensive response usually occurs within the first week of treatment. Maximal response may occur within 2 weeks or, occasionally longer.
Compared with Caucasian patients, Black patients have a reduced blood pressure response to monotherapy with beta blockers; however, the reduced response is largely eliminated if combination therapy that includes an adequate dose of a diuretic is instituted.
