For Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "I receive this drug with chemo and am supposed to take it days 2-4 afterwards. Other than anxiety it does the trick of improving abdominal pain but once I stop I am in agony. Burning pain and cramps, indigestion, back pain and decreased urine output. I'm ready to give up on the whole thing."

For Inflammatory Conditions "There was consistent fever, weakness and lack of appetite after the Liver HCC post TACE procedure. This drug helped in overcoming all these problems and increased the diet intake which also helped in increasing weight. Initial dosage was 2mg gradually reducing to 1mg. After a month when I reduced the dosage to 0.5 mg, fever and weakness returned and appetite also reduced slightly...therefore was again forced to go back to 1mg daily dosage which brought back some normality."

For Atopic Dermatitis "I have severe atopic dermatitis and major issues with my spine. When I initially started taking dexamethasone, it worked wonders. 10mg’s for a couple weeks then down to 4mg twice weekly. When I started taking it I had no side effects. Now, approximately 4 months later I’m getting almost all of them. Yesterday I had so much anxiety I thought I was losing my mind. Anxious (couldn’t even answer my phone), extremely irritable, major mood swings - those are just the tip of the side-effect iceberg. It’s exactly what happened when I took prednisone. Tomorrow will be my fourth dupixent shot and it seems to be working (at $2400 monthly it should work). I will be talking to my dermatologist ASAP to ask if I can stop taking dexamethasone. Good luck to everyone who is or is thinking of taking it."

For Inflammatory Conditions "I don't know if it's my personal doctors fault or mine or of the med but; I'm in my late teen age and I was prescribed to take dexamethasone(VARCODES) 8mg per tablet, 2 times a day for 10 days and 1 times a day following next 10 days. I wasn't self aware and didn't do enough research to acquire enough knowledge about this med before taking it. Even though I got well around 15-18th day, I continued for last 2 days and around after a week of finishing this med I started having only a few whiteheads hear and there, which was common for me cause it happened once every month and heals if I don't touch it. But after 3 days, I wake up with a face, scalp, body, shoulder, chest (all of upper-body and head) full of small red bumps, from then on it started to get worse and I had to see a dermatologist. he said it's "Acne Cortisonica" and taking this med caused it, so to all the people out there who might be prescribed this med, be careful about the "Overdose", Do some research before taking it."

"I went from five pain prescriptions a day, to almost ZERO pain prescriptions a year! all it took is one or half pill of Dexamethasone 1.5 mg to give five minutes before the extraction or dental implant, and the patients NEVER call me after hours for pain pills nor do they take any pain pills at home. I have been using this protocol and since January 2019. I actually have enough cases to do a retrospective study. Still waiting to find an IRB other than the commercial ones; those are expensive and I am not paid to do my research. I am even scientifically and financially sponsoring a future triple controlled blind study at a respectable university overseas. It will take some time to get that study done. Meanwhile, I am enjoying being the dentist who does not prescribe any pain pills. What a blast: no more pain or opioid dramas... and I am an Orofacial Pain specialist, so I know what I am talking about!!!"

For Inflammatory Conditions "Tooth extraction- 3 days left felt so unwell high temp, vomiting, racing pulse. Went to A&E suspected sepsis further tests revealed day after infected swollen airway couldn’t swallow morphine wasn’t touching throat pain. Started this steroid by IV as soon as found. Instant results swelling went down I could swallow and 28 hours later I was discharged with oral antibiotics. I can’t sleep yet/ my face is bright red which I was warned about and a feel a bit low but the benefits have far outweighed these side effects. As the doctor said it’s instantly impacted your airway and stopped the swelling in its tracks."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "“Doctor said in 20 years she never saw Plaque Psoriasis as bad as mine, I looked like a breakout of the measles or something. So after 8 mg first day, in 30 minutes started feeling better, 3 days later clear skin.... haven't taken for a week and no flare returned. Picking up my script today taking 2mg 2 times a week and a week off to be mild on the body.”"

"I was prescribed dexamethasone 4mg twice daily for altitude illness as I was working above 12500 feet above sea level. Within 2 hours of taking 4 mg I was no longer short of breath. I will gradually reduce the amount over seven days as I return to a lower altitude 10000 feet above sea level. This program has kept met alerted as to possible side effects which I will watch for. It has made this trip a blessing."

"I was on this for a Dexa suppression test. Horrible experience. My heart beats esp when I try to sleep (which I haven’t been) is so rapid/irregular and if I just for fraction of second feel like asleep, I wake up with a Hypnic jerk feeling I’d die/go to some other world or pass out."

For Aphthous Ulcer "Really did a great job in reducing inflammation caused by mouth sores, but had significant difficulties sleeping. Was given 10 mg IV weekly during chemo session, and took 4 mg twice daily afterward, for about one month. Stopped taking on a Wednesday (cold turkey) and by Saturday was experiencing edginess, some depression. Took until Sunday evening to really get back into a positive attitude. Probably should have told doctor that I wanted to phase out. It really works, but be watchful of mood swings."

For Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "I am taking the night before and morning of five 4 mg tablets for chemotherapy. I feel like I am getting clean energy to get through the 5 hours of chemo spread out every 3 weeks. Helps me rest and maintain energy to get cleaned up after. I have PCOS and my glucose has been 150 or 170 in the morning for no food-related reason, so I think it raises my sugars, I'm not diabetic and do take metformin, for PCOS. Have had a hysterectomy and was diagnosed with endometriosis-ovarian cancer. Does not affect any anxiety or cravings/appetite. I am able to snack not eat a big meal and maintain my energy and helps keep nausea away so I want to drink and stay hydrated and I have not had nausea for two sessions so far. I am seeing benefits from it and am Thankful!"

For Inflammatory Conditions "I was prescribed a high dosage of Dex for what they originally thought was Crohn's, which turned out to be Lupus. Unfortunately, the Dex ruined my life. When I tried to stop taking it, I experienced convulsions in my legs. Initially, I thought it was a symptom of the illness, but it turned out to be the steroid. Despite being a 5'2" athletic woman, I gained 200 pounds over the ten months they had me on it. I developed Cushing's syndrome, resulting in a 'moon face' and a hump on my back. The doctors were unable to pull off a tapering schedule, so I did it myself, slowly. What started as Adrenal Fatigue soon became Adrenal Insufficiency. I lost my hair and suffered kidney damage/failure. Dexamethasone Psychosis developed, causing me to hallucinate. I also experienced bone loss and excruciating pain while walking. There were times when I couldn't even walk at all. Eventually, I developed kidney failure, and I was swelling so much that I got an impinged nerve. Despite losing the 200 pounds after a slow self-directed taper that almost killed me, I have significant scarring, and the nerve damage was permanent."

For Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "Taking this as pre med on chemo day and then for 4 days after. Side effects include: Insomnia-I’m still up, it’s 5am, weight gain-I’m always hungry, swollen hands, legs and feet, blurred vision, lingering dry cough, voice also goes in and out, constant headaches, swollen face and neck, painful bloating and I’m not overweight. Talked to the doctor and it was decided that I would only take it on chemo day. Phew!"

For Inflammatory Conditions "I was prescribed 3 mg dexamethasone tablets to take 3 x a day after getting a root canal to help with swelling and pain that tylenol and advil weren’t helping. Within 2 doses, my tooth and gum pain was 100% gone! Worked very well for the inflammation. Side effects were rough on the 3rd day though! At first, I just had some increased urination and thirst and felt kind of spacey and out of it. But on the 3rd day I felt insanely anxious, sad, and was super irritable with everyone and everything around me. Surprisingly, I didn’t have any sleep issues on it. I was back to normal a couple days after."

For Nausea/Vomiting, Chemotherapy Induced "I’m given 8mg IV Dexamethasone prior to Chemo. You are then prescribed Dexamethasone 4mg orally breakfast and lunchtime post chemo for 3 days. The first time i took it I thought I was losing my head - the headache was mind blowing unrelieved by Paracetamol. Never again, I’ll put up with the nausea. My weight also ballooned and I couldn’t stop eating. Dreadful stuff!!"

The medication cause me to be awake for 46 hrs straight. 6mg dosage no step down."

For Inflammatory Conditions "My IVF doctor prescribed this to me prior to supposedly help with the embryo transfer. I started having painful sensation and redness in a few days, went to ER, they called it mild induration that progressed to cellulitis (now a bump in belly button). On bed rest for almost 3 weeks now, excruciating pain. I missed my scheduled transfer because of this. Currently taking clindamycin to clear infection."

Decadron (dexamethasone) for Inflammatory Conditions "I was put on Decadron in 2002 after radiation treatment for an AVM affected nearby tissue, causing it to swell. While it did save my life, the effects on my body are still severe and ongoing, especially my spine, where I am now awaiting major surgery to repair my spine."

"I was prescribed this drug for altitude sickness and took it for 2 days. It seemed to work for AMS, but it created terrible side effects -- anxiety through the roof, mild depression, and extreme irritability. The effects set in on Day 3, and took about 36 hours to wear off. I recommend others consider and reserve time for such side effects if trying this drug. I personally will not be taking this medication again."

For Asthma "Started taking as a replacement for Predisinol as it makes me break out in hives (I know it's supposed to help them.. my body is a freak of nature). I have manic depression and contrary to some reviews I've had no issues with taking it. I did get the fabled Crouch Burner where my jj was on fire but only lasted an hour or so. Compared to living with debilitating hives for a week I would choose crouch burn anyway and has settled my lungs down so I'm no longer tight or breathless."

For Sarcoidosis "Seems to have been very effective in reducing inflammation rapidly. Able to take a lesser dose than Prednisone was to be prescribed. Less side effects on the brain than Pred, but quite hard on stomach, however prescribed meds helped to relieve this. Overall a great improvement in conditions."

"Positive experience overall in the sense that the side effects were minimal, mainly increased my hunger. I took it for 12 days, at the end my stomach was very sore, but I am prone to gastritis. If I take it again, I'll use some PPI meds to protect my stomach. It helped my herniated discs slightly."

Decadron (dexamethasone) "Administered as IV injection at the ED for shortness of breath and low oxygen. Two days after neck surgery C4-C7 fused. Also received a breathing treatment of Albuterol & Ipratropium. Breathing was less labored within 15 minutes. Oxygen level still dropped to low 80s on room air when relaxed or dozed off to sleep. This review was written one hour after administration and should be considered incomplete as monitoring at the ED is ongoing at the time of this writing."

For Asthma "I was recovering from a nasty lung infection and I was coughing up a lot. Two weeks later the cough improved a lot but my lungs were still wheezy and breathing deeply caused rumbling in my lungs. The doctor gave me a two-day course of 12mg of these tablets to help cut down the inflammation of the lungs. I was scared to take these as I'm prone to having anxiety/mood issues and I saw some of the other comments here. Luckily the dose did have some side effects but nothing I wasn't able to handle. I took them at 8 am each day and the peak side effects were around noon. Mainly feeling a bit jumpy, have headache, and feeling sort of floaty. In the evening I did have a harder time falling asleep but I still was able to sleep through the night. My lungs feel a ton better, and my appetite improved which was a huge relief. I also noticed a significant decrease in chest pain. I think for such a short 2-day dose, even though high, it was helpful."
