I am not taking Topamax for weight loss my Dr. prescribed it for migraines, and when i told her i had been having trouble losing weight for my Aug wedding she said this drug might help. I have been on it for 3weeks now (75mg at night). I have a lot of the same annoying sympotoms as most of you guys, memory loss, muscle weakness, joint pain, dizziness ect. I just want to know about how long it took for the good side effects to come along other then the decrease in migraines of course.

I started out on 25mg twice aday, almost instantly I started to notice a change in my appetite. I lost 40 lbs in about 3 to 4 months. I don't have bad side effects, been on topiramate about 4 yrs now.

You should wreak the benefits of a drug like this for weight loss. Use it only if it works.

Topamax is often referred to as "Dopimax" because of the common side effects - that being memory loss, muscle weakness, inability to speak or loss of memory, difficulty having conversations with people and not being able to complete a sentence because you had no recollection of the conversation subject, etc. Yes, I was on Dopimax a few years back and experienced both the weight loss (30 pounds) and the side effects. At 200mg, I stopped because I had enough of the side effects. The longterm effect if the drug continues to be taken could be Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, stroke, and possibly Epilepsy and Dementia, or any other kind of brain disease. I would prefer to suffer with migraine than experience any of those diseases with long-term use of Topamax. I suggest using it short-term. Don't eat it for the weight loss. There are other drugs available for weight loss.
For example, you may want to look into a prescription of Contrave for weight loss or meet with a Dietician to discuss a proper eating plan. Good luck.

I was on 300 mg at one time but for migraines and mood. I lost 50# in 5 months. Now, I'm on 75 mg, I'm not really loosing wt. It's not helping me with my migraines. My dr is trying Nuvigil and it will make you loose wt

oh okay ill have to ask my dr. about that. I am 5"1' and weight 160 pounds so I don't have a lot of weight to lose healthy weight for me is about 20ish. but im still considered obese according to the BMI charts. I will look into that though thank you!
