I'm a wheelchair user with incontinence issues who needs to fly across the country on a 6-hour flight without using the bathroom (no way to get to it). I regularly take Detrol LA & Lomotil for overactive bladder & IBS. My doctor prescribed Propranolol for the calming effect on my bladder when traveling (and stress-reduction, as stress increases bladder activity). I will be taking a red-eye flight & won't be able to fall asleep without a sleep aid because of discomfort of the seats, so I am thinking about taking either dramamine (which will also mitigate any motion sickness) or benadryl (which I can rely on to put me to sleep better than dramamine). I've read that benadryl and dramamine are chemically similar and both have the desired side effects of urine retention and drowsiness. I've taken Lomotil, Detrol, and Propranolol together before without a problem. But I am concerned about any synergestic effect of so many anticholigernics combined with ethanolamines. I will also be depriving myself of liquids and sleep before the flight, so that adds to the need to be cautious. I realize that every single drug I listed causes dry mouth. Please advise on whether I should take Benadryl or Dramamine with the other drugs, whether I should take Propranolol before all others (as the anticholigernics lessen its absorption), and whether there are any serious health risks when taking all of these together. Thanks!
