Hi I had a total knee replacement on April 2nd, 2015. I want to note that it was my 11th surgery. I was given the fentanyl patch 25 mcg for pain. Shortly after applying the patch, I noticed my wrists and elbows really hurt. The nurses said it was just from pushing myself up off the bed, etc. I came home from hospital with pactches. Two day after stopping them I noticed every joint in my body ached. It was difficult to put on clothes or even move. I was in tears and went to see my primary care doctor who increased the gabapentin to 1200 mg per day. I am also trying to taper off 5 mg oxycodone at 1 every 4-6 hours per day. However they ended up increasing this back up to 2 every 4 hours as I was in so much pain. I couldn't even get to my PT appointment. I am now back on the taper. I slept most of yesterday and today I am a little better. I am questioning what is happening as I have never taken fentanyl and according to many other posts, this was a relatively low dose to have such side effects. I have now been off the fentanyl for two weeks and am still having significant pain in every joint of my body. Any suggestions? My family thinks I should seek a second opinion and have more blood work. My C-Reactive protein has been high and they haven't run an ANA. Some people have said that you can have medication induced lupus... Ohters have said get into see a rheumatologist asap. I called and soonest I could get in is August 3rd.
