Late second period after taking Plan B, Is this normal? Could I be pregnant?
Question posted by neverlosehope on 4 Jan 2014

Can someone shed light on this situation? I'm totally freaking out after taking Plan B. I had protected sex on November 9th, however the condom slipped, so to be safe and not sorry I went and got Plan B within two hours of the incident. I took the pill and my period for that month came a few days early but it started off slow, but then became quite heavy and i bled for about five days, which is my usual time period for having a period.
So here I sit waiting for my second period to come. I keep having what i think are little cramps, but nothing like I'm used to for having a regular period, and I am actually ten days late for my period. which is scaring the daylights out of me. I have tested using first response tests and tests from the dollar store (new choice brand), followed instructions, used first morning urine, sometimes middle of the day urine, it's been 8 weeks now since the incident happened and NO other sexual contact has occurred since in fact we broke up because he turned tail the second i had this scare.
I know it's probably all in my head but I have tested negative every week and every test I have taken and not to sound OCD but I have probably taken over 10 tests over the past four weeks, is there any way i could be pregnant? And is it possible to have a very late second period after taking Plan B, or not one at all? Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Would an at home pregnancy test be accurate by now?
It is normal to get all sorts of hormonal symptoms for a couple of weeks after using Plan B. It is a huge dose of hormone for your body to handle/process, & should only be used in total emergency.
It depends where you are in your cycle as to what symptoms you experience after taking Plan B. Sometimes you'll bleed, sometimes you won't. It is common that your next period will come up to a week or two late, & that before that, you might get irregular bleeding, which may even be heavy, or could be just a brown discharge or spotting.
You may feel very hormonal for a couple of weeks after using Plan B. It's a massive dose of hormone for your body to take, & therefore it should be used as little as possible. You may experience side effects such as sore breasts, bleeding, back ache, cramping, bloating, mood swings, depression etc.
A tip - When the condom is about to be put on his penis, hold the tip. This prevents air getting trapped inside the condom, as you roll it down. If air gets trapped inside, it may lead to the condom bursting during intercourse. Always hold the base of the condom on the penis as he withdraws. This prevents it accidentally slipping off inside of you.

Hey Ladies, I too was once in your shoes... made a mistake and was absolutely terrified that I was pregnant. I took plan b and had Cramping and bleeding a week later that only lasted a day or two. Thank GOD, I was not pregnant... as I was not ready to be a parent. Yet, the only advice that I can give you is to Pray, just as I did. I asked God to forgive me for being irresponsible, and due to his Grace, I was not pregnant. I BELIEVE everything happens for a reason, and this situation changed my ideas on sex and enhanced my relationship with God. I personally do not judge, however, for me I have decided to save sex for marriage as that last incident really put things into perspective. If you chose to continue to have sex before marriage or if you are married and you do not want a child or another one,,, PLEASE get on a regular birth control method and always practice SAFE sex. Plan B should not ever be used as your regular form of contraceptive... only in emergency situations.
I hope that you ladies make the right decisions for YOUR LIFE. You all will be in my prayers as I hope you learn something in this stressful time as I did. MAY God Bless YOU.

Ok someone please help so my boyfriend and I had protected sex and he didn't ejaculate yet it was just the pre cum so when he took it out for a sec it poped outside of me but some got on my area so in the morning I took plan b so it was still within the 24 hours and now it's been more than a week and I still haven't got my period. I usually get it the last week of the month so I took plan b the 19 and today's the 29 so I basically missed it for this month and I'm so scared

From my experience, I got my period a week later than my expected period. Thank you God. I also read other forums and same happened to them. Plan B can cause your period to be late... It is normal. I did 3 pregnancy tests and it came out negative. I am gonna do one again tomorrow to make sure.
I had sex on July 8th. I took plan B 3 hours later... I started having a somewhat normal period 1 week later... I had unprotected sex again on July 17th (I know... -_- stupid mistake)... I have been praying for my period to come. My expected period is suppose to be on August 1st... My period came on August 13th... so happy... so please be patient and wait.. it will come... also, please do not have unprotected sex... not good. Learned my lesson.

Hey I'm 20 and the same thing is happening to me. I had a normal period after plan B but then the next month it was bright red and so light I only saw it when I wiped. Now it's just dark brown clots for a few days when I am suppose to get my period. I don't know what is going on.

To all the people that keep saying just use birth control and you don't worry about pregnancy? That is false as birth control is never 100% effective. I got pregnant on the birth control pill and the patch. I've had to use Plan B before and it is a great option to have in case ur not on birth control. I had a one time slip up with my husband but we were not quite ready for another baby so we took Plan B and all was good. Now I'm on birth control but we still use the pull out method because of that small chance of pregnancy ;)

I just went through the exact same thing! My period was so late and I took 3 negative pregnancy tests in between because I was so scared. But finally, my period came 25 days late! AKA I pretty much missed one entire period because of Plan B. So ladies who take plan B and continue to have late periods, especially your second one after- do not freak, especially if your pregnancy tests turn out negative. Just wait and relax, it will come. :)

I'm going through this now. I usually mark when I get my periods and forgot to. So now I can't remember if I got my period this month or if the plan b is just messing with me. I took it about 4 days ago still haven't gotten my period. I am on the pill also. I also took two pregnancy tests that came up negative. I'm still freaking out

If you had a normal period after the sex, there is hardly any chance you are pregnant. You girls could avoid all this nonsense and worry, and spending so much for morning after pills, if you got on regular birth control. If you take them right, you don't have to worry about pregnancy ever.

Still calling them girls is disrespectful and im sure being of your age you can understand respect. No one calling you old lady nor questiining why you're even on here consider you may be to old to conceive or have a period let alone be taking plan b, from what u say grandma.

To kaismama... I know this is old but here's my opinion. I was raped last month and had to use plan b. I am not a "girl" I'm a 28 year old woman. Things happen... don't judge others when you haven't had to walk in their shoes. I'm on here looking for the side effects too because I feel pregnant and am praying I'm not. Good luck all you beautiful ladies on here!

I'm very sorry that you had to go through something like that, I hope you are doing much better. We shouldn't mind people like that, they're quite immature that way. Even I'm immature at times but still.
By now a hpt would be accurate. The same exact thing happened to me. I took plan b withing 5 hours of an intimate moment with my boyfriend. (I've decided to stop taking bc pills due to adverse side effects, we were both absent minded) My period came a a couple days early and lasted 2 weeks. It was a light flow. I took matters into my own hands and took 800mg of ibuprofen evey 8 hrs for 1 day to stop the irregular light bleeding(I have been told by a gyno that this is safe to do for up to 5 days with food in the stomach). My 2nd period after plan b was 10 days late. Yes, I was paranoid and took 3 home pregnancy tests over the course of a week to make sure. All tests were negative. I believe to high amount of progesterone delays ovulation after the initial emergency shedding of the uterine lining.

So far what I have read has eased my mind a little, but I'm still a little concerned. The day after my period ended, I had unprotected sex. To be honest, my boyfriend and I were slightly intoxicated, but intoxicated nonetheless. Although he said he didn't finish at all, and he had pulled out as well, we still wanted to be safe and got plan b the next day (about 10-12 hours later). Exactly 7 seven days later I had heavy bleeding for three days (enough for a tampon; visible clots). I was due in a little over three weeks, if I go by my normal 30-day cycle from the day my last period ended. I'm now a week and slightly worried. I plan on visiting my doctor if doesn't start soon, but I was just wondering is it's possible that it's just the Morning After Pill at work? At most, how drastically can plan b actually throw off an individual?

I'm g going through the same thing right now and its freaking me out a bit. About 4 Weeks ago,my bf and I had sex, and the condom broke, so to be safe I got plan b. I was expecting my periodaround the time that I took it,i started my period periodthe same day I took it, about eight or nine hours later, it was extremely heavy and lated seven or eight days, which is longer than usual. Since then i've been constantly stressing about my next period,i got my last on march 4th, and have taken about five tests since then, all turned out to be negative. i haven't gotten it yet, but the same thing had happened, so in a panic I I took the pill again,i plan to get on birth control after all this ),i also have tested an additional several times this week before taking, all of which were also negative, my bf says i'm fine and i'm over analyzing and stressing myself out too much, and I know it messes with your cycle, but I have this never ending uneasy feeling even though i'm probably fine

Oh girls, this is why I hate the morning after pills. You girls think they are a magic potion and depend on them for birth control. They are for emergencies. See your drs and find out what is going on.

hello there, i ended up getting my second period exactly two months late from the initial bleeding from plan b. it's now 5 months after i have taken plan b and my periods are totally back on track and coming as they usually do! hope this helps and never feel bad about using the option of plan b. sure it's not regular birth control but when mistakes happen, it's good to have this option, don't let someone tell you otherwise.

By the way plan b is a high dosage of a birth control pill so if you hate plan b you should hate bcp also. But nothing is 100 percent , honestly it depends on the person. There is never a time when you dont have to worry.
ok so im in the very same predicament as you here now, and i honestly dont know what to do. Have you talked to a doctor or anyone yet or has your period come yet ? im really scared.

Never lose hope I just have a quick question. I've taken a couple tests myself, but not even sure if I'm late. Did your abdomen become hard and did you cramp, a lot? My breasts aren't tender, but as far as other symptoms I can't really take those into account because i have a newborn. Just wondering!

Hi so I took plan b after having sex where the condom broke. However a week after taking plan b I got my period which was weird since I had just had my period two weeks prior to that. However its been a month since I last got my period after taking plan b and I still haven't gotten my period. Is it possible that I'm pregnant? Or is it just a late period because of the plan b?

Hi, so me and my boyfriend had a condom break back in June took plan b the following morning. I had my period about a week later. My period was 10 days long which was longer than my 5-7 day cycle. I have irregular periods to begin with but I have not had a period for the month of August. I'm almost 2 months late. I started my birth control a couple of days ago hoping maybe that would get me back on track but I'm still a little uneasy. I have taken at least 4-6 pregnancy tests and they're all negative I would think I would be positive by now but people say those things can be inaccurate. I have little cramps, and a little bit of swollen stomach or bloating. Can someone please answer this so I'm not so uneasy I guess I just need some reassurance.
