Chad John...I was taking Hydrocodone 10-500 and the Dr switched it to Oxycodone HCL 5mg?I would like to know if this is the same thing? I was building a tolorence to the 10-500 Hydrocodone, so the Dr said the Oxycodone HCL capsule might work better, is this true? I have a Herniated disc in my lower back, and I cant ever seem to get relief, is there a way to take the RX , that will work more efficently ?

The strength should be 7.5mg to be equal but yes, Oxycodone is a much better pain reliever than Hydrocodone. They are the same type of medication but arent the same compound. Because Oxy is stronger, its a schedule 2 drug whereas Hydro is a schedule 3.

Hi Chad, Ocean is right in that the oxy is stronger and should work better then the hydros. With your condition, have you discussed a longer acting medication with your doctor? Herniations are a chronic condition and it's likely you will build a tolerance to the meds pretty quickly. Good luck on finding a medication that works well for you!

hydrocodone is no where near as strong as oxycodone. The oxycodone is a much better pain reliever. I have herniated discs and I get 30mg oxycodone with no additives at all, it is pure oxycodone. first of all if your going to be on the medication for any length of time, the aceteminophen will destroy you liver. secondly, hydrocodone is a second rate pain killer and does not come without the aceteminophen.
