I have taken up to 6 mg at one time with very little relief. I Have taken generic klonopin and antivan with those provding no relief at all. the xanax is the only thing that helps, but i need what what i think is a very high dose.
How nuch alprazolam can I take at one time?

Alprazolam dosing for anxiety treatment typically starts at 0.25 mg to 0.5 mg three times a day. It is generally recommended that elderly people and people with other health problems start with a lower alprazolam dose, such as 0.25 mg two or three times daily. Most people require a higher alprazolam dosage for the treatment of panic disorder; but in order to prevent side effects, the doctor may start you with a low dose (such as 0.4 mg three times a day).
However, it is recommended to talk to your doc/pharmacist who has prescribed the med.

ckycwby, that is a lot of xanax!!! One miligram is a high dose. You should call your doctor. If that much has not relieved your anxiety, perhaps you need a different med. Please don't take so much xanax as you could overdose or have a siezure!!!

My doc has me prescribed me 1 mg pills. 1 or 2 pills 3 times a day or as needed. i go back to get re evaluated friday. she started me on klonopin (can't remenber generic name) 1 mg twice a day. That did not work at all. Then she switched me to clonzapam. 1 mg 3X day. That didn't work either. I have very bad panic attacks, constantly nervous, and almst always aggitated and irratated. My wife thought i was having a heart attack or stroke, and took me to the er. Doc says severe anxiety, and put me on xanax. works great. It works great, I just need to take more than the drsays. I am 33 yrs old, and am also taking seriquil xr 50mg 2X a day and 20 mg generic celexa 1x a day
very good advice sweetlemon. Benzo's are very addictive, easy to build up a tolerance, hard to quit. But if you stop cold turkey, it very well could be life threatening.

I am also a recovering alcholic. Been sober about 19 months. The er doc told me since the other anti-anxiety meds aren't helping, it is much better and safer to stay on the alprazolam. He tells me he knows people that have been taking them for 30+ years without problems. I don't take them to get "high". I take them when i get "worked up" A i mentioned earlier, I have severe anxiety/panic attacks. My wife and other family forced me to the ER afraid i was going to have a heart attack or stroke. I checked out fine, with just slightly high blood pressure. I have had blood work done not to long ago, and everything was fine. the er doc gave me 1mg aplrazolam 1 or 2 pills 3X a day, and if i needed more to calm down it was fine to take more. On average i take 6-10 pills a day.
