I have been taking xanax for years for terrible insomnia. I have taken 2 mg of xanax every night at bedtime and it helps me sleep through the night. Initially, my doctor tried every sleeping pill for me but xanax nothing else worked. So I've been taking xanax for years and it has always worked. I have always taken the blue football shaped pill UNTIL my last refill 5 days ago. I was given.the green 1 mg football shaped xanax. I haven't slept in days! Why is this? I wouldn't think the color would have anything to do with it. My question is how do I tell my doctor this and get my trustworthy blue xanax back? And why do the green ones not work?
Why doesn't the green 1 mg xanax work like the blue 1 mg xanax?

I ran into the same situation as you. I take Xanax to sleep. Have always taken the blue ones, either round or football shaped. About 3 years ago, I happened to be near a Costco and took my prescription there for Alprazolam, the generic for Xanax. I usually go to CVS but having the prescription in hand and driving by Costco, I filled it there. I never look in the bottle. I took one, 1mg, to sleep and was up all night. I thought, ok maybe I had things on my mind. The next night I took another one and was up all night so I took another one and was wide awake. Believe me, I never looked at them. On the 3rd day, something made me look in the bottle and I saw they were green. I called a Costco and they told me they used to have the blue ones but switched manufacturers. I went back to CVS and had them call Coscto to transfer the prescription. This year, on May 21, 2018, I called my refill of Alprazolam/Xanax into CVS.
I picked them up and took my usual 1 pill, 1 mg, before I went to bed and was up all night. Again, I never looked in the bottle. Tuesday and Wednesday, I was up all night. Finally, Thursday, the 24th of May, something made me look in the bottle and the Xanax/Alprazolam were GREEN. What a nightmare. I called CVS and the pharmacist told me they changed manufacturers. I told him that I have been taking these for a long time and filling them st CVS and should have been told. I then called Walgreens and they had the round blue ones by Sandoz. I returned the remaining pills to CVS and had Walgreens call and transfer my prescription. Believe me, it is not in your head. I take Lasix, a water pill. I am sure that the pharmacy has changed manufacturers many times but they still work for me. The change of Alprazolam/ Xanax did not work from blue to green. I learned that not only from Costco three years ago but now from CVS. From now on, I will always, always, ask before I fill the prescription. Maybe the green ones work for other people but I was up all night and you know what that feels like. It is not in your head.

That's what I'm wanting to know always been on the blue ones finally got myself lined out and I got these green ones on the fifth driving with kids and having to pull over and crap is not fun ... no they are not as strong

Well me personally was on the 1mg blue oval tablets of alprazolam and then I noticed my mom switched to green and when 5mg of my old “blue ones” wouldn’t even let me sleep or rest 4+ hours, I tried one of my mothers in exchange for my blue because she was like this. Blue worked best! For her! Everyone’s different and sometimes changing brands like this of the med up can be night and day like me 3mg(blue) vs .5 of my green 1mg. The blue I would rarely sleep and stay asleep. .5/1mg IG green I could crash 8-15 hours better than the blue !!! Find what works for you!!! Male
Or female!!! Good luck and also, once our bodies have gotten used to one manufacture, it’s sometimes best to change it up to another like I did because it’s “too used to it! And not as responsible post ingestion. If your having one of your worse kind, you can always let it dissolve for emitting it into the body quicker through your saliva. Introducing it into the blood stream quicker. Other days when not as bad than general “PO” which means orally ingested is fine. Best of luck & much love! without the numbers and letters on the pills, I can't look up and see what you have. Normally the blue 1mg is the alprazolam and other companies they may make them in any color they want so I am guessing you just have another brand,And it should work there are all kinds of companies making the generic Xanax what you should do is take the bottle to the pharmacy where you get it and ask the pharmacist what is the difference in what you have always gotten and these new green ones because they are not working for you.If you have it take the blue old bottle and the new one with you. In rare cases, someone may not agree with a binder that holds the pills together but the same amount of Alprazolam is in each pill but you can ask the pharmacist and see what he or she has to say.
did they tell you it was a different color when you picked it up? Don't like to say it but the mind is stronger than any medication and some people just can't adjust to another company I have no problem with whichever one I get.But this is the only way you well find out and tell them if they can you don't want anything but the blue ones from now on. They can't always get the blue they order it by drug and the company just sends them the one they have in stock. But there is a rare occasion that you could have something else in there take it back to the pharmacy or call them.
