Anyone taken Gabapentin and xanax xr, how did you find it?

I have been prescribed 1mg xanax xr twice a day, and 300mg gabapectin twice a day. I am a little nervous about taking it as i saw there were drug interactions on eppocrates for cns depression and addiction. currently i have only been taking 1mg xanax xr twice a day and 300mg, but am supposed to up my does of gabapentin yesterday. i started to have light green stool yesterday... honestly i dont know if its just something i ate or if i should worry, or if i should go to the 600mg a day gabapentin... obviously you can see from what im being prescribed i have pretty bad anxiety issues. so this is driving me crazy.
i used to be on Pristiq 100mg a day and xanax .5 once a day, but the pristiq if i forgot it for more than 10min after i was supposed to take it i got a severe headache that took hours to go away. so i asked to be weaned off of it (worst experiance ever)
hopefully someone can give me some expert experience on my concern

I take both gabapentin and xanax with no problems. If you've been on one of them for a while, slowly add the other med.
They both work well for me.
Also, yes Xanax can be addictive, yet you are very aware of that, so try not to worry so much about addiction. As long as you take what is prescribed, and taper off of xanax when the time comes, you will be just fine!

I agree wholeheartly with my friend sweet lemon. My hubby has taken gabepentin which is not addictive by the way at any dose. You can't just stop it at high doses as it's an antiseizure med that also works for other conditions. If you have anxiety, the xanax will help tremendously. Best of luck to you... Mary632009

I have to tell you Mary and Sweet Lemon know of which they speak. I, too, am on xanax and gabapentin and I love both of them and wouldn't quit either, for the reason , if nothing else, the medications do what they are supposed to do. And I am a retired ICU nurse... don't
obsess... relax... relax... breathe in and out deeply about 5 times. Don't get cranked up about yer poop either... it's something you ate... fer Goodness sake!!! And my Cymbalta doesn't work either. Don't send yourself to the hospital, like I did... relax... relax... u b fine dear.

Yes i have been on xanax for a LONG time, he tried to add trazodone... result... amplified anxiety, i already tried lexepro, zoloft and ramron in the past for depression when going through a divorce and was allergic.
I feel better knowing other people are on xanax and gabapentin at the same time and not having a problem, was feeling fine till i read that they can have bad interactions. so i dropped by xanax from 1mg xr to .5mg xr last night and this morning and had a horrible panic attack, that i had to leave work.
are you on the same dosage as i posted and on xr? tomorrow i guess i will start the gabapentin twice daily as my doctor prescribed after a week.

Don't be afraid of the combination, I think you'll do well on both meds.
And try the gabapentin!! Please don't cut your xanax, look what happened!

Many times what we read about interactions is a CYA sort of thing, they must consider law suits and that type of thing, so they are covering their own arses, if you get me?

Ok so i took my meds last night and went to bed, woke up a little anxious, thankfully i had my son with me who always calms my nerves.took my 1mg XR xanax and 300mg gabapentin this morning, and im still a little nervous. i cant stop thinking about everything even though your all posts did make me feel more confident about it, trying to keep myself busy at work so i dont think about it. feeling a little restless and cloudy, and anxious but not panicy,, so we'll see. its been about 1 hr and 45min since i took my morning dose.

sorry you are feeling like that. I've never met ayone who says Gabapentin makes them anxious, so I don't know what to tell you. Maybe give it a few days and if it continues, call your doc and discontinue the Gab?

i dont know if its the gab, i think its just me still worried so my anxiety is still overcoming the medicine
Blye, I agree, you are just on edge because you have a new med to take.
I feel the same way when I've tried new medications, it can be intimidating!
