since Tramadol is addictive for some people does this also mean that this med can be abused and cause a high? was just driving this morning and this question came to mind. I've never used the stuff so i don't know the effects on euphoria (but i do know alot about how it works)

I've been on Tramadol for around 6 years. Yes, this medicine does cause euphoric effects in doses over 100mg but inexperienced users may feel euphoric effects at even 50-100mg. Tramadol is a drug all it's own. It causes a euphoria different from any other opiate. It is also a mild anti-depressant. It gives me energy when I get up and move around but relaxes me when I'm watching TV, etc. I would say it's okay to drive as long as you haven't taken too much. I really wouldn't recommend it since you're coordination is a little slowed. Yes, it can be abused. Any doctor who says it's not addictive is full of sh*t. I am on Tramadol for RLS & chronic migraines.
Being an addict in recovery for some years now, I know from past experience what put me to the bottom. Opiates. All and any kind of opiate. Now some years later, after a couple of spine surguries, and suffering from chronic rheumatoid arthritis, plantar facieitus, diabetes with the associated neuropathy, and a lot of wear and tear, I can say that tramadol is nothing like opiates of the oxycontin or Vicodin or even lortab class. Sure, long enough and higher doses can cause some physical issues, but for me, the risk of taking stronger drugs does not leave much option. Today, I work 50 to 60 hours a week on my feet and a concrete floor. Im able to do this because I have to and the tramadol scrip I have. Coming off 400 milligrams of tramadol a day is not nearly as bad as coming off 800 to 1500 mil. of oxys a day. And it don't cause me to break out in jails or rehabs. Be careful. Follow Dr orders, and be accountable to someone.
Have you tried the extended release tramadol? I found that it works alot better then taking immediate release 4 times a day. I'm like you, if it wasn't for tramadol I couldn't work, and I never took it except as ordered.
Have not tried the e.r. yet. I will ask next Dr appt.
You can abuse NyQuil and get "a high." Cigarettes are highly addictive, do they cause a high? If it's designed to help with pain management chances are it can cause a "hi" if someone who is not in pain takes it. Like an ER nurse once asked me, "Don;t you get a buzz taking that stuff?" (Referring to my pain medication). "I imagine I would if I wasn't in agony all the time, 24/7/365, yes, I imagine I would." Hope this helps.
Why did such an old question come up again in my email on June 28th 2012?
I had that same thought balbanese, that seems to happens a lot these days.
By the way, tramadol was useless to me as a pain med so I asked my pain doc, to make a long story short, after taking oxycodone for 10 years, your brain doesn't like anything else. Go figure!

I was on 3 50mgs daily split up, I would take them together and use more later in day. Total time spent on trams was about a year, I absolutely felt a buzz from them, not super strong but mellow just under the surface. I was also taking Vicodin at the time and when I ran out of Vic's I'd use the tram to help with withdrawals. I sometimes took Vic's and trams together trying to extend the time of being pain (almost) free. I've been off all pain meds for about 6 months and use kratom only.
My doc gave me trams today because I asked and he sees that I'm responsible about pain meds, probably because I was the one who said no more 6 months ago. But the kratom is starting to cost to much and I need an alternative or at least something to take sometimes instead of the kratom. To the original question of "can you get high" I'm going to answer with a YES. Be careful with trams due to the likelihood of seizures. I wasn't trying to get high back when I took them it was more about taking a little more then prescribed to obtain pain relief. I have spondylilothesis (sp?) and extensive arthritis through my back, I'm relatively young at 39 and my back looks like a 70 year old, so I've been told.
Anyone wanting to play with trams or any pain drug needs to heed all these warnings and really think about what you may be planning on doing. 1 hour of a peek euphoric feeling isn't worth the possible irreversible damage to your health. Good luck and God speed to all.
The abusers say they do, they take alot. I've been on it for 10 yrs, took it like I was supposed to and never got high from it.
Maybe, it can definitely make you sick, cause a seizure, severe headache, etc.
Hello all. New here. Got a lot of info here.
I been on schedule II narcotics since my accident in 1999. In 01 I sought many surgical opinions, couldn't take the pain & had a lower lumbar fusion with a titanium cage.
I took time off work, got a new PM Dr, who prescribed me 300mg of tramadol & Nurotin. 2 weeks ago & present, I've weaned off 240mgs of morphine & dilaudid.
Needless to say, Im in lots of pain.
I agreed w my new Dr taking Tram as the lesser of 2 evils. Now proceeding w caution as im an addictive person. Any advice is appreciated!!!
Yes. It'll also cause seizures, severe headaches and a variety of other ugly stuff. It's widely available for a reason, as synthetics go, it's on the junk side of the meter.
A drug being more availible based on its quality makes absolutely no sense.
My dr told me that tramadol causes a high in about 2% of users. I'm willing to bet that if I gave sugar pills to 100 people and told them to be careful because it causes highs and addiction, 2 people would become high and addicted. This is not to say it doesn't cause dependence. I have been on a high dose of tramadol for years, and have never experienced a high or any other reaction. Results of any drug are individual and you have to be aware and judge for yourself. For me the benefit far outweighs the risks.
This drug is not worth it. Extremely dangerous, with or without abuse.
I have been addicted to Vicodin for the past 3 years. It all started with a 7cm cyst rupturing in my ovary and I have a new cyst it seems every month. They don't always rupture, but they grow. I have asked my Dr. to help because I don't want to be addicted I've tried to cold turkey detox myself, but he always ends up prescribing me Vicodin. I am in the process of finding a new Dr. But when my Dr. sends a script in I can never seem to tell myself no. I am all out of scripts and started to get symptoms of withdraw I deleted all my drug dealers numbers so that I can't get any on the street as well. I had tramdol left from one of my ER visits and took 4 of them and I have the same high as I would with Vicodin. I didn't mean to, I read about them and was under the impression they'd help my withdraw but not make me high. I've always believed the addiction is purely psychological.
If you want to feel high tell yourself you high and you will feel somewhat high. I think that is exactly what just happened. I'm no dr. and I have no actual facts. But i thought I'd tell everyone my experience. Yes you can get high on them if you want to. I would not suggest it though because it has very serious symptoms involved. I will be throwing them out today.
Yes. So high you can wind up in the ER. They're not kidding with the 450 mg daily ceiling. It WILL cause seizures. If you have migraines or other conditions involving excited brain activity your threshold is even lower. DO not screw around with this stuff. It's available all over the internet because it junk. It can help with RLS but it is not to be abused and only get it legally. My wife almost died from a seizure caused by too much Tramadol, she was driving at the time. I got all this information from a Neurologist, and he's not an anti-pain med guy either.
My hubby used to take to many of them swearing that he got a high off of it. But I have no personal experience with tramadol.
I started taking tramadol for headaches. I would say it is addicting because when you stop taking it, the withdrawal sysmptoms were terrible for me. Shakiness, nervousness. It`s funny though, that every doctor I`ve been to about pain other than headaches, like abcessed tooth, they offer tramadol first, then I say it don`t work for me, then they prescribe vicodin. I like the high from vicodin better. The euphoria is better, but man, you build a tolerance to opiates within just a couple days, so you gotta take more and more. I got off both Tramadol and opiates. It`s isn`t good to get into addiction, you`ll regret it.
Forgot to add to my post here. Tramadol is a sneaky drug. It creeps up on you and before you know it, you`re hooked. This drug should definitley be a controlled substance. The high is different than Vicodin, but it still feels good. My mother was giving them to me for my back. I ran out and was freaking out. I have never done heroin, but by what people describe coming down off heroin, it`s eerily similar to tramadol withdrwal.
well, tramadol is a synthetic opiate that works on different opiate receptors than that of oxycodone, diecytlmorphine (heroin), morphine, methadone, and etc. my friend tried to get "high" by taking a bunch of them in one handful, a half hour later he had a grandmal seizure in my lap, he had to be sedated with lorazepam (ativan) to stop the massive convolutions. he remembers nothing of it, so he also suffered some brain damage, i personally think it is a useless drug and should be taken off the market. It barely works as an analgesic, never-mind being good for recreation, the drug is useless in my opinion, i have a major spine disease called kyphonated scoliosis or kyphoscholiosis which means sideways and outward curvature of the sine, and i am in constant pain, tramadol (ultram) as it was named because its so ULTRA! .. no it isn't, it is far from ultra, its the opposite of ultra. It sucks, ...
SO my friend do NOT try to get high on this horrible substance for you will go into a massive seizure and you could die from that if you are alone or operating ANY heavy machinery, or an automobile. i hope this helped you, and please .. PLEASE. do not try to abuse tramadol, it could be lethal. hope to be able to help with more questions further on in the future
yours truly,
Dick Towel
