Current Echo findings of my wife:
LVIDD 52 mm , LA 51 mm, RV & RA Normal size and function, Aorta 29 mm, Ejection Fraction 59 %, pulmonary Artery Pressure(PASP) 40 mmHg.
Diagnosed: Dilated LA, MR 2+, AR +1, TR Trace, Moderate mitral stenosis with MV area 1.4 cm2 and mean pressure gradient 8 mm Hg.
Patient current health: ok slight shortness of breathing on exertion.
Medicine being used: Spiromide 20( dirutic) 1 tablet in the morning, Inderal 10 mg ( beta blocker) 2 tablets in a day, Normisar 20 1 tablet at night.
Patient history: problem was diagnosed 3 years ago after a pregnancy. Echo findings at that time were : MR 3-4 +, AR 1+ TR 2+, mild MS with area 2.4 cm2 , dilated LV , dilated LA, pulmonary Artery Pressure(PASP) 77 mmHg and poor ejection fraction 32 %. Patient health at that time was swollen feet and ankles, could not sleep while lying straight due to severe shortness of breath, severe shortness of breath on slight exertion/walking, cough.
My Query:
1- What are your comments on current Echo findings?
2- How can we prevent mitral stenosis from becoming worse in this case?
3- Do you think Mitral stenosis can be stopped at this stage or it will become severe with passage of time?
4- Do you think Mitral valve replacement through surgery will be required? If yes, then after approximately how many years and at what MV area.
Thanks
